And this growth on the hydrangeas over the same period!

The buggers are defaulting to pink, despite soft water here & ericaceous compost in their pots, but they look so happy I’ll let them off (this time...)

And finally this red & purple fuchsia, which had been in the same pot in the same place for several years - scraped off the moss & weeds, stirred the compost up a bit, top dressed it & moved it down the yard under the tree for a few weeks, so it had some nice shade for a change Smile

Wow @GiantKitten the transformation is amazing!! They look like different plants from the first photos !!!

GiantKitten · 27/06/2020 00:19

Thanks, pop!
They really do, I’m so pleased 😊
Obviously the weather this year is a big factor but it’s astonishing how much difference just a little bit of TLC makes.
Just found this image of the red & purple one from July last year - I honestly thought it would be so sparse this year I’d have to chuck it!

Wow that red and purple looks completely done for in the first pic, amazing transformation @GiantKitten

AnneKipanki · 27/06/2020 09:20

Wow @GiantKitten! That's fantastic! I bet you're so pleased you didn't give up!

I've just sat down with a cup of tea, and I'm happily watching a bumblebee wriggling around in my poppies. So sweet!

Not a flower, but I just got this...a dwarf mulberry! I’ve been wanting one ever since they were first introduced a few years ago. I’m not sure what’s taken me so long to actually buy one, but I can already tell that it’s going to give me a disproportionate amount of joy 😄

I love seeing the transformations @GiantKitten You are so right, never give up on a plant! A lot of them are so much tougher than they look

Damn, I’ve just been googling that dwarf mulberry to see if there’s anything special it needs. It seems not many people like the fruit it produces ☹️

Oh well. It’s a pretty plant and if it is as bad as people say it is, I guess it will just become another food source for the blackbirds 😄

I think historically they were mostly used to raise silkworms? So you could have a go at that Grin

They are lovely, and so full of character. There are several ancient ones in Stratford, including one in the garden of Shakespeare’s daughter’s house, with various bits of its trunk propped up on metal posts.

I'll have to look up mulberry bushes, I dont know much about them apart from the song.

Meanwhile, dahlia with petunias behind it and a geranium underneath a shrub I cant remember the name of.

You now how sometimes one thing leads to another then another well...

I saw a very pale lilac clematis at the garden centre I thoughtn would echo my rose and look nice on the opposite side of the door. Went back and couldn't find the exact one but found one called Ooh La La (my knickname is Lah Lah) so had to have it.

Bought it home and went to find a pot same as the rose one but could only get it in larger size which I thought would be better for the clematis so ordered. Then looked at clematis instruction and it says not south facing and the front is very warm, so it's now planted out the back and flowered the next day

Pot arrived today and its frigging huge

Oldraver · 27/06/2020 18:27

I love seeing these gardens coming to life. Here's my hydrangea today, it was blue last year but slowing turning more pink it seems

Ooh @SandyDays there has been some discussion about that just a few posts ago .

I think that might be my chameleon clematis that changed colour with Tomorite @Oldraver! I got it from the trolley of death at Homebase for a few pounds and it didn't have a label. It started out with much paler pinkish petals like this link but turned even darker than yours when I changed the feed.

I have it on a south facing wall and it hasn't stopped flowering for months now. I guess it didn't read the label like me Grin

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 27/06/2020 21:09

So many beautiful pictures Smile

My roses are settling in to their new home Smile

Maybe it has been said already (it's hard to keep up with the posts) but if you're using ericaceous compost, and your blue Hydrangea are still pink, I wonder is it from lime in your water? Try collecting rainwater and using that instead? I can't remember where I heard that... it was probably on Gardeners' World? Grin

My newest bloom on the blue Hydrangea is blue, even though the older blooms are still more of a pink. I quite like having both!

@goingoverground yes thats mine. The flower that was out in the garden centre was certainly much paler. I'll leave it where it is fot the moment and I can always move it next year as its in a pot and one of those you cut down.

Ive now got it in my head I need a pale lilac one

SandyDays · 28/06/2020 09:21

Thanks @AnneKipanki I love the way they can change from one season to the next 😁 it's like having several different plants in one
