Hopefully it's made him laugh, and also helps him to realise how much he has achieved this week.

TheThirdOfHerName · 29/09/2018 18:50

@NoHaudinMaWheest it's the little things that are getting to me, too.

TheThirdOfHerName · 29/09/2018 18:56

It turns out he has earned two more... 😆

That's hilarious Third Grin Good effort!

This train of mine is really up the spout, so think I'll be home for 9. It's been a very long day.

Love the awards Third! DD has done supermarket shopping, induction lectures, and survived a pyjama party so she’s doing well too.

Well done to those who have survived drop off today, we’ve come so far since those tentative days of pulling together personal statements, the stress of revision and exams and the horror of waiting for results day. It’s been quite a journey. Feels good to have got this far.

Downeyhouse · 29/09/2018 19:32

Glad it went well Panda, Kitten and Lobster.

Ds called (first time he has called rather than the other way round).

He spent the whole day at the rugby trials and got admitted to the university club. They take about 40% who try out and he said they flashed the names up on a giant screen. One colour you were in and another you were not. So he was pleased to have made the cut. There are trainings 4 times a week so he is going to be busy.

YippeeTeenager · 29/09/2018 19:38

That’s brilliant Downey, well done to your DS and lovely that he wanted to share the moment with you.

TheThirdOfHerName · 29/09/2018 19:45

Downeyhouse that's great!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/09/2018 19:49

That's a brutal way to do it Downey! Congratulations to your ds :)

Well done downey
Dd wants to play netball but it means cutting her nice long nails she's just grownHmm so she'll either have to suck it up or not play
Dd was going back and forth about switching to PPE and has rang to say she's emailed to switch as she wants a broader degree and it's not necessary to have maths or economics at alevel (I also checked it out and surprisingly it's true)
Hopefully she'll be able to switch.

starfleet · 29/09/2018 20:50

Glad all the drop offs today went well.

One of DS's friend has, to use his words, "quit university". Where the friend currently is wasn't his 1st choice and he doesn't feel like he is going to be challenged. He wants to go to London so is going to resit an A Level to apply again to the one he really wants.

LoniceraJaponica · 29/09/2018 20:53

Great updates from everyone
Well done to your DS Downey
I hope you get home soon Kitten

Thank you for all the good wishes for DD.
Today's visit to Manchester was so different from last year. It has moved from dislike to number 1 choice.

The subject talk was the most inspirational of any I have sat through. The course was exactly what DD wanted, and it didn't rain!
She also met up with a friend who started this year doing the same degree.

I am glad to be home now. Thanks to strike action by Northern Rail I have driven over the Pennines to Manchester, then up to Preston then back home.

UrsulaPandress · 29/09/2018 20:59

The Pennines were looking particularly fabulous today. ❤️

LoniceraJaponica · 29/09/2018 21:13

They were utterly gorgeous. I drove over Woodhead going and the M62 coming back. The reservoirs were depressingly low though. I have never seen the ones by Woodhead this low before.

UrsulaPandress · 29/09/2018 21:34

They are low. Forecast is for a hard winter so I'm sure they will soon be full.

adrinkofwater · 29/09/2018 21:45

thethird love the awards! How long do you think it will be until they manage had an early night and caught up on sleep!? Spoke to DD yesterday - she FB called as it was DH's birthday. She seems happy, but has a cold. She has had 9am sessions all week during Freshers, but when I suggested an early night she just ignored me!

Nettleskeins · 29/09/2018 22:04

ds1 just had a long chat and said he was having a very nice time, going to clubs near his halls, meeting some great people (he is not usually sociable) singing karaoke, eating Dolmio tomato sauce on pasta, down to his last 100 to last two weeks, and now preparing:

to stop partying and stop going out so much because he had run out of money and needed to get down to work

he also said his course was very interesting but he hadn't expected it to be quite so time consuming

downey how great he is fitting in so well!
"Lonicera" sounds v positive
kitten oh those interminable train journeys when something goes awol in the engineering timetable [grrr] you feel you could have crossed the Continent traversed the Urals in the time it takes.

ds also asked how things were at home. Boring, the usual, I said. Aah he said with great satisfaction. So definitely not homesick, yet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/09/2018 22:12

It was exactly like that Nettles. Grin I did bond with a fellow sufferer of the delays though.

I'm home, drinking wine, dd has messaged to say things are going well, she's making friends. She was brave and went to the freebie social night. Hasn't met anyone from her mini kitchen yet.

I guess that deserves a trophy!

littledrummergirl · 29/09/2018 23:16

I had a chat with Ds1 via messenger today!Grin
It seems that they(no idea who they are but it seems he's made a group of friends) went to a champagne reception last night, left half way through as it was busy and went to McDonald's before heading to the freshers ball. They found a queue going round the block, decided to give it a miss and ended up in the lego shop instead.
He made cakes today to share and has bought light bulbs and extension cables for his room to plug in his lights etc. He's also eaten food he bought himself so I assume has visited a grocery store and he's done a hand wash.
He also said he's started preparing for his course.
The most important thing is that he told me he is happy and enjoying himself. I can worry less now. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/09/2018 23:34

That's lovely! Love that he ended up in the lego shop Grin

Gosh - so many posts on this thread the last few days. Glad to hear things are going mostly well for most. Love the badges third - what a nice idea!

So we dropped off, had slight room disappointment but she was socialising well and then I get a text at 4am that she has insomnia which is a weakness of hers at exciting/stressful times. So we had a calming chat and I think she's sleeping now. I was feeling odd with her not here and sleeping on and off myself.

so I think insomnia is common kitten
and my empty DD's room feels really strange spababe

GnomeDePlume · 30/09/2018 07:50

Glad to read that drop offs went well. I am glad the open days are more positive this time around Lonicera

DD2 home for the weekend. Had a bit of coursework to submit. DD1 guided her through how to do proper referencing and also advised her to go into the university library to find out how to access the online library material.

All far removed from my academic days when referencing was done by hand and all books were in paper form in a library which spent more time shut than open.

DD2 is amused by her flat's educational demographic: mostly grammar with a couple of high end comps. DD2, coming from a low achieving failing school, is definitely an outlier.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/09/2018 07:51

I hope she got off to sleep again Voilets. It's lovely that she was able to chat to you.

I'm wondering how dd got on with her first night. I hope she got more sleep than me. dh now seems to have a cold so has been snoring his head off all night. Hmm I guess at least now we have a spare bed I can decant to.
