[[https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/further_education/3313710-Class-of-18-nervously-waiting old thread]]

You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

So sorry to hear that Marmite Thanks

Just dropping DD2 off to have breakfast with her friends (school opens at 9) then will be awaiting the phone call!

Stomach a bit knotty, but nothing compared to this time last week!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2018 07:37

Flowers marmite. I'm really sorry to hear your news. How is your dd doing with it?

Good luck today people.

Oh Marmite. Sending love.

Puts the stress of today's GCSE results into perspective. Xxx

marmiteloversunite · 23/08/2018 07:45

OYBBK both DDs have been great. They were more worried before they knew exactly what is happening. It is easier to deal with facts than unknown tests I think. I was talking to DD2 about bras with pockets and she said "Oh no Mum! You have enough trouble buying normal bras!" Which is true.

Good luck to GCSE students today!! DD2 is just going into her final yr of GCSES so I am watching results with interest.

UrsulaPandress · 23/08/2018 07:46

Oh marmite so sorry to read that. But as petal said, breast cancer treatment, in my experience, is bloody fantastic. You sound like a coper so I am sure you will sail through. Sending you all the love and strength I can. Flowers Flowers Flowers

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/08/2018 07:51

@marmiteloversunite
Wishing you all the best for your surgery and treatment

marmiteloversunite · 23/08/2018 07:52

Thanks all!! I'll be fine. Probably good job I've got uni prep going on. Takes my mind off it.

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/08/2018 07:57

Marmite I'm so sorry to hear your news. Flowers

Snappy teen-agers seems typical Ursula. I think it's their/nature's way of making sure we're happy to see them go.

Good luck to those getting GCSE results today. I have a whole class full of results to look at today but I'm choosing to ignore them and go out for the day with dd2. I know my class won't have done particularly well because they weren't the most motivated and lots of them had very poor attendance. Hopefully there will be a few who do well, but I'm not holding my breath.

UrsulaPandress · 23/08/2018 08:08

There are many reasons I will be glad she has gone

My iPad being where I left it.
My chargers being where I left them
No wet towels lying around
A cupboard full of mugs
A cupboard full of glasses
Lights switched off around the house
Bins not full of snotty tissues
Not finding smelly riding socks down the sides of chairs and under the table
Not tripping over size 9 shoes all over the place

Hell im going to miss her!

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/08/2018 08:13

I will not miss:
My chargers disappearing
His attempts at playing the guitar
Loud music to accompany every activity (showering, cooking)

I will miss:
His personality
His sense of humour

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2018 08:33

Your dds sounds brilliant marmite :)

Sorry to hear your news Marmite Flowers

NoHaudinMaWheest · 23/08/2018 10:13

marmite I am sorry to hear your news and that the timing is so bad.

I think I picked up from another thread that we are in the same city. It sounds as if you have a good support network but if you ever need an extra hand or ear, PM me.

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/08/2018 10:21

DS2 got 9999998888 (and A^ in Further Maths). Really pleased for him.
And also glad that DS1 got his results first.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 23/08/2018 10:52

Well done to DS2 those are great results.

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/08/2018 11:03

Thank you NoHaudin he also has SEN, so it has not been straightforward for him.

Petalflowers · 23/08/2018 11:03

Wow, fab results. Six nines!

Just got back from dc2 and he’s got back into his school so that was good. Dc2 is bright, but never really took revision seriously, although his attitude did change at the end. Hence we weren’t quite sure whether he would get in, or just miss it (although plan b school was okay). Dc2 got a range of marks from one seven ( good) to one three (oops).

Pizza, his favourite food, to celebrate tonight.

starfleet · 23/08/2018 11:43

Flowers marmite

HesMyLobster · 23/08/2018 11:56

DD2 got all 7s 8s and 9s! So flipping thrilled for her - she's not naturally "academic" and worked her socks off!!

DD1 got a shocker of a 9 Shock in the self taught Latin GCSE that caused so much grief!(she had no idea whether she'd passed or not having never even seen a practise paper!)

She doesn't know yet as she's still away on work experience and doesn't want to know until she's back at the weekend, so as not to steal dd2's thunder today. (DD2 picked it up for her and had a peek though!)

FantasyAndHope · 23/08/2018 12:10

So sorry marmite my mum had breast cancer. It’s wonderful what they can do nowadays best wishes and lots of hugs Flowers
Well done to all the gcse kids! Not a fan of the number system though feels strange reading the news and seeing numbers

MsAwesomeDragon · 23/08/2018 14:07

That's seriously impressive third!!! All 8s and 9s is fantastic stuff!

NoHaudinMaWheest · 23/08/2018 14:39

lobster well done to both your dds. Self taught Latin is impressive.

Petalflowers · 23/08/2018 16:03

Lighthearted reasons continued...

Fewer shirts to iron
I will get full use of my car again
Fewer socks to pair Up

Nettleskeins · 23/08/2018 17:03

marmite what a nightmare Sad I've also got my in box open if you want to share any of the worries about dc starting uni doing music (although I know your dd will be brilliant) it is a bit surreal when you are in the eye of the storm, you spend so much time having to cheer other people up who are upset on your behalf, when really you need just to be allowed to be fed up.
third I was about to come on here and boast about my dc's gsces, but I see that we are unusually protected species of parents with two lots of talented children Wink Ds2 was predicted 5s in English, hoping desperately to get a 6 and get into sixth form, although his history was high prediction. Low prediction for Maths. Mediocre prediction of everything really. Cannot write, cannot spell. (sometimes I think he cannot think either) Ended up with a bloody 9 for history and 8 for English and 7 for English language and science, beating his brainy twin by a league. She ended up with a 4 for Eng Lit, and a 6 for eng language, 6 for a humanity subject, although she had other 7s...

Still they both did really well, I am very happy for them. I'll never be able to nag non-executive function son two again, about anything Blush

Ds1 seems to be surviving by the lake shore. He says he watching episodes of Lost to reassure himself. Rather alarmed by siblings' results, lucky he is not here really. He seems to spend a lot of time walking away from the scenery, and has managed to find a hairdresser in the wilderness; he told me he was thinking of a buzzcut to stop the flies annoying him.

Nettleskeins · 23/08/2018 17:29

marmite "ursula" I don't think ds will let me meet his flatmates, fit or otherwise - my goodness I hadn't thought of that. I think I am going to be on the end of a phone really, that is the most important thing.
