You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

Nettleskeins boast away! Your Y11s have both done really well! Bet your DS is particularly chuffed.

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/08/2018 17:39

@Nettleskeins
Any tips for getting one through A-levels and two through GCSEs at the same time? I've got that to look forward to in two years' time.

Nettleskeins · 23/08/2018 17:47

as long as at least one of them likes working you will be fine Wink
I think in the long term I accepted my inability to make much happen unless they made it happen. The same with tutoring, timetables, fine tuning. Ds had one tutor, in the subject he was worst in. It was his poorerst mark. Dd had one tutor in the subject she was best in. Her mark stayed the same as she was originally predicted. I saved a fortune. I suspect if I had one child doing exams I would probably have been micromanaging a lot more, and not really changing much in terms of outcomes or their independent thought.

TheThirdOfHerName · 23/08/2018 17:52

DD is like a less academic version of DS2. She is an independent worker, works hard and quietly gets on with it without any fuss.

DS3 makes a lot of kerfuffle about revising, but not sure how much actually gets done. He's all "everyone look at me; I'm revising and deserve lots of attention!" Unfortunately for him, by the time he reaches any academic milestone, it's all a bit old hat for DH & me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2018 18:16

Well done Gcse students :) my phone keyboard is being weird so struggling to type.

marmite I am so sorry for your news Flowers

Fantastic GCSE results

I am so proud of DD2 - only one result today (she's Y10) - she got a P1 in her mock (i.e. a level one pass, so less than a GCSE pass), pulled her socks up and ended up with a Merit! So, so proud.

Bakeandyarn · 23/08/2018 19:35

third I made a revision treat box for DS and plan on doing the same for DD. I got an old biscuit tin and kept it topped up with various treats; sweets, chocolate, protein stuff (gym fuel!) and other bits, I made sure I kept it topped up with different things and he really liked seeing what he had next. I think DDs might be a bit more heavily weighted in the stationery direction when the time comes. Rule was he could only have it whilst revising!

marmiteloversunite · 23/08/2018 20:04

Thank you for all of your kind messages and offers of shoulders. You guys are great. Wink

PandaG · 23/08/2018 20:11

Well DD did brilliantly, 1x4, 1x6, 3x7, 4x8 and 2x9. Delighted for her, and so pleased she can do her first choice of A level subjects. She is not as naturally able as her big brother, and even though we don't compare she feels in his shadow. So pleased she has really done herself justice, but also so proud of the young woman she is becoming.

starfleet · 23/08/2018 20:21

Brilliant news re GCSE results! Well done to all of your DC's.

DS's bank have sent him a goodie box - chocolate, popcorn, sweets etc. There might only be an empty cardboard box left when he gets back from Leeds Wink

marmiteloversunite · 23/08/2018 20:44

Such great news for GCSE DCs! I will have that joy with DD2 next year.
Well done to all. Smile

NoHaudinMaWheest · 23/08/2018 21:21

Well done to everyone for their GCSE results.

Petalflowers · 23/08/2018 21:31

Third - tips for GCSEs and a-levels, red wine!

Actually, in many ways it’s easier having both revising. Two years ago, it was difficult as dc2 wanted to do nice things, whilst dc1 was revising, or dc2 wanted to play music loud, PlayStation etc. We had revision times and ‘play-times’. You do find your life goes on hold though. Also, two results days isn’t fun either.

MrSlant · 23/08/2018 21:45

Oh marmite what a nightmare for you, this bit is the worst and I have to boast that our NHS is amazing for boobs. Pretty crappy year for you though but you can start ticking the days off starting from your diagnosis. Why is there always just one more thing when you start to think you can relax?

Very proud of DS2, he's done really well in his exams which is coming back to bite me on my 'I don't want to discuss grades because I don't want the boys to be compared' arse Grin. In alphabetical Wales he got A* in everything he wants to do at A level so it was a very happy day and we are all giggling at the fact that he now has 12 GCSE's to DS1's 6 but DS1's B in GCSE maths still made me sob tears of happiness which DS2 didn't get! It's all about the expectation really isn't it. Congratulations to all our awesome GCSE getters.

Can't believe that year is done with, seemed insurmountable at the start, sport 7 days a week and all the exams to come, yet here we are, still quite a lot of sport but exams done and all the things they wanted for the future available to them. WIBU to have a really long lie in tomorrow morning?

marmiteloversunite · 23/08/2018 21:55

Definitely deserve a lie in!!

derekthe1adyhamster · 23/08/2018 22:35

marmite sorry to hear about your diagnosis - I hope all the treatment goes smoothly Flowers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/08/2018 23:03

Lovely to hear all the results news :)

Thread is getting a bit full and I intend a lie in tomorrow so

Marmite big hugs & lots of Flowers Flowers right now for you.

Congratulations to all the fab GCSE results out there today!

flatmouse · 24/08/2018 07:40

marmite, DD does GCSEs next year, so I'm hoping to chat to you on the Y11 thread which I presume is around somewhere or coming soon!

marmiteloversunite · 24/08/2018 07:49

Yes flat mouse! Do we need to set up a thread? Feel a bit lost about that without OYBBK being in charge!Grin

GnomeDePlume · 24/08/2018 08:30

Marmite very sorry to read that you are going through this. I hope the surgery and recovery go well.

My DF went for major surgery shortly after I went away for college. Pre mobile phone days so I kept in contact by letter and the draughty hall phone. Your DD will be worrying about you but at the same time being away at university may make her feel a bit cut off.

marmiteloversunite · 24/08/2018 08:44

Yes Gnome I asked DD1 if she will text me every day and she said mmm yes and I will FaceTime once a week!! Once a week is not enough Confused
She really missed us when she was in China so I am hoping for two calls a week! At least until I get used to her being away.

DD2 is a right cuddler and my little shadow. Total opposites.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/08/2018 08:55

I bet she's in contact more often :)

Oh Marmite, sorry to hear your news. Another one here to listen if you need to vent. Flowers

Ds2 had his results collected by my mum as we as still away, he will be collecting them on Sunday. He refused to let her open them and send a photo.

Ds1 has confirmed his accommodation and is in contact with two flatmates. They gave him 48 hours to confirm his accommodation which caused huge anxiety as it had to be done by Internet and we are in a place where this is very patchy. Fortunately several cups of coffee in a helpful restaurant last night got it done.

Well done on all gcses received so far.

Downeyhouse · 24/08/2018 09:31

Hello all,

Checking in from the USA - where we are still on holiday.

So sorry to hear your update marmite - I hope your op goes well and you have an extremely speedy recovery. You will be in my thoughts.

To all those with gcse kids - congratulations on their results.
