You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

One more sleep to go,for all of us double exam result-ers this year. How is everyone holding up? I sent ds2 out to,do sport to distract him, although he seems quite blase about it all. I really have no idea how he will do.

Ds1 is getting expensive. New smart shoes today (for his job), plus need to buy trainers.

TheThirdOfHerName · 22/08/2018 21:23

DS1 left for Reading this morning.

To be honest I'm happy to have a break from thoughts of student bank accounts, accommodation contracts and the like.

It means I'm now free to focus on DS2 and tomorrow's results, but I keep forgetting how pragmatic DS2 is. He doesn't seem stressed at all.

chocolateworshipper · 22/08/2018 21:36

Good luck to everyone getting results tomorrow. DD2 is getting one result tomorrow.

starfleet · 22/08/2018 21:40

Good Luck to DC's getting results tomorrow.

DS went off to Leeds this morning with two of his friends - lots of gear in the smallest car. Not sure how they got everything and themselves in!

MrSlant · 22/08/2018 22:17

DS2 was horrified that I mentioned leaving at 8.30 for school, he wants to enjoy his sleep! I'm 90% sure there will be no major upset but who knows what the exam board has been up to? Maths, further maths and physics in the mix for 'must do' A level choices so God help us if something got mucked up there. I am WAY more stressed than him! It's all too much on the back of this time last week (although staying up until midnight for OYBBK juniors STEP was a highlight of my exam year, nothing like getting invested in other people's children Grin).

Has anyone had a formal 'reading list' through for the uni courses? I know a bit of what DS1 needs from reading the course online but would rather have it formalised before I spend too much money, although the hiking boots are a must because of where he is going let alone the course requirements. Not going kayak until Christmas Wink.

banana thanks for your mail order suggestions, I love those.

I also love Meg River’s cakes so I’ve got my eye on sending a starving student box at some point in the first term.

Ds1 is with Barclays student account. I have no idea about any of it!

We are watching Paddington2 atm. I find it very boring but dd says it soothes her nerves. She is very anxious about the Gsces,
whereas ds2 is less so, rather like Third and MrSlants dses..
Compared to A levels it just doesn't feel that frightening.

I'm still brooding about ds1's third music A level paper that I thought should be remarked. (but haven't chanced it, as I really don't want to affect his overall C grade; I know that is the best course of action, just to leave it and move on) It would be nice to hear other people whose essay paper had been severely marked for that board, and then it would be easier just to accept that it is the way the cookie crumbles, as it is I have no way of knowing what the context was, as the other two people in the class were better composers, and probably did better overall for that reason (getting top marks in the second paper), not necessarily the essay questions being marked higher. But as it is, I won't know!!

Still feeling very chuffed though still and looking forward to the next steps/his place at uni. I met people last year who were still brooding about rogue results several months later because it had affected their uni place, we are lucky that it hasn't affected the outcome at all.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/08/2018 22:39

I can't believe you stayed up MrSlant! Grin

good luck everyone tomorrow. I hope it goes really well.

MrSlant ds1 has a formal reading list ONLINE for each module, so I suppose it would be sensible of him to just go through it, noting the optional and the compulsory modules..and the reading lists thereof..Hmm I've had to show him the link to the Fresher's accommodation page on facebook. No doubt next week I will have to prod him about the required reading. But ds responds better to commands from central office than suggestions from mother. And there have not been any commands yet, I think Clearing hasn't finished yet.

Nettleskeins · 22/08/2018 22:44

I left ds1 by a beautiful lake on Tuesday and I wanted desperately to suggest to him that he compose some "lake music" but I restrained myself. It is hard to stop nagging!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/08/2018 22:45

dd has a maths workbook, but it's not very difficult. It's presumably so they are all on the same page.

UrsulaPandress · 22/08/2018 22:45

DD still seems to be a bit on top note. Can barely speak to her without being accused of something. Probably all the forthcoming changes. And us going on holiday leaving her with dog and horse to look after. I just wish she wasn't so snappy.

Hope all your dcs have a fab time at the festivals. I think that's another thing that's sticking in her craw. She's working Friday night and Saturday and a dressage comp on Sunday but I know part of her wishes she was there.

marmiteloversunite · 22/08/2018 22:46

Nettles we are going for a remark of the music performance for DD. We were told that it was pointless getting the composition remarked as they never change that. I know our DC did different boards but the marking seems harsh.

UrsulaPandress · 22/08/2018 22:47

Maths workbook! Snort. Did she manage to take it seriously?

UrsulaPandress · 22/08/2018 22:48

How are you marmite?

YippeeTeenager · 22/08/2018 22:54

Ursula i feel for you with the snappyness. Even if they are looking forward to going they are bound to be anxious and on edge about it all too. It’s just difficult (after a long and difficult summer).

2gorgeousboys · 22/08/2018 22:54

Good luck to everyone waiting for results tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/08/2018 22:56

There was a bit of a sigh Ursula Grin

Dd is on a couple of chat group things and a whatsapp group. And do you know what? There are no fit blokes.

MrSlant · 22/08/2018 23:05

Well at the moment it might be us in 2 years time OYBBK so I'm living it vicariously through you!

DS2's recent behaviour has been appalling, if it's not down to pending exam results then him compressing DS3's chest with his not inconsiderable thigh muscles earlier will come under further scrutiny in the near future.

marmiteloversunite · 23/08/2018 07:03

Thanks for asking Ursula. I had second biopsy and MRI results last Friday. Unfortunately I have to have a mastectomy on one side as I have breast cancer and Paget's disease. (seems surreal even writing that). So that is happening in the next couple of weeks. So I am trying to get all of the uni stuff together in the next week. We heard DD got her first choice accommodation yesterday so I can get on with it properly now I know bed sizes etc. I have a very very long list!! DH will probably be dropping her off so I need to get her as organised as possible. Makes me sad that I won't be there to meet her flat mates and set up her room but I will probably be a few days post op at that stage.
Anyway I am being positive and will be getting through this crap! Luckily I have great support.

Petalflowers · 23/08/2018 07:09

Marmite - hand-holding from afar and sending virtual hugs. Fortunately bc treatment is vey good in this country but I know it’s a worrying time (had bc six years ago). Have you found the cancer support thread?

Knittinganewme · 23/08/2018 07:12

Oh Marmite, what a bitch! I am glad that you have people there for you, it's tough when you are used to taking care of others to stand down and let someone flutter over you. My inbox is always open for when you need a moan, being positive is good but it's hard to pull it off long term.

The room and flatmates will be there all year, you will have plenty of time to see them when you are back to feeling like yourself again. In the short term she could take you on a video tour.

Now back to what I came on to say. Those of you with GCSE households - good luck for today.

LoniceraJaponica · 23/08/2018 07:15

Sorry to hear your news Marmite.
I hope it can be resolved with as little fuss and intervention as possible Flowers

Echoing Kitten - good luck for posters with DC awaiting GCSE resuts. It seems so long ago for us old timers.

Sorry to hear your news Marmite,I hope it goes as smoothly as possible FlowersFlowers

Ursula my friend’s DD both did that before they left, think it’s their way of dealing with the separation by starting to withdraw a bit.

Good luck to all those waiting for GCSE results today. We’re waiting for DD’s Maths resit but I’m not quite sure how she gets it so might need to wait. Thankfully she doesn’t have to pass to get her place as think we’d be in trouble if she had to.
