You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

Talking of what to take - on the Exeter website there is an option to have a whole 'essentials pack' bought and delivered to the room for their arrival. We are definitely going for this as have a tiny car and live an awfully long way from Exeter! I think its called Campus2go.

Slartybartfast · 17/08/2018 08:21

dd1 took battery run fairy lights.
and no problem with having an airer.

mmmz · 17/08/2018 08:30

Rather than try to fit everything into a little car, couldn't you just buy the stuff at the shops near the university? Maybe go early, drop the suitcases off at the halls and hit the local Tesco extra / Argos/ ikea with a shopping list?

TheThirdOfHerName · 17/08/2018 08:37

mmzz if you can get there early enough, that's a good idea. Unfortunately a lot of people have the same idea, and the Asda / Tesco nearest to the university is likely to be sold out of pans, duvets etc by lunchtime.

DS1 can't book his arrival slot until his accommodation is confirmed.

DaisyBlameless · 17/08/2018 08:42

DS is at Exeter if anyone's got any questions about accommodation or anything.

Well done to everyone's DCs yesterday

mmmz · 17/08/2018 08:42

In that case what you need is to order bulky things like pots, duvets, pillows and clothes airers online to collect from Amazon locker / a local store. Might as well get the first grocery order that way too.
Do you have to buy a bookcase too?

FantasyAndHope · 17/08/2018 08:55

Dd is shipping all her stuff to uni and going down on the train.
The only issue we currently have is GP as she has a number of referrals to departments at our hospital so she’s thinking does she wait and then transfer or just go and go back through the system

Lepetitpiggy · 17/08/2018 08:57

DS and I are taking the train and dh driving so dh can take essentials like ds's records and guitar!!! And yes the shops will no doubt be packed and sold out so we may as well order all the stuff new. He's already pointed out he actually isn't 4 anymore so a new grown up duvet cover without little stick men playing football on it, or 'ENGLAND' in big letters, would be appreciated Grin

Lepetitpiggy · 17/08/2018 08:58

Daisy - ds is going to be in Lafwada (sp) do you now much about it? Thanks!

Slartybartfast · 17/08/2018 09:01

fantasy, can you rearrange appointments so they fall in the holidays?

2gorgeousboys · 17/08/2018 09:08

Just caught up with the thread. Flowers I'm so pleased DD got somewhere she's happy with.

DS had a nap yesterday afternoon and then went to watch his football team play along with my Dad, DH, DSS and DS2 so I had drinks with my Mum and DSis (got a bit of a headache this morning!) It was nice to be able to talk about how I feel about him going away. I slept well last night for the time in weeks.

It has felt like life's been on hold for the last few months and full of ifs and maybes. It's nice to know where he's going to be but feels like there's loads to get down in the next 3 weeks.

Bouledeneige · 17/08/2018 09:10

Well done everyone. Now the GCSE wait....

ShanghaiDiva · 17/08/2018 09:12

Ds leaves on 27th August to go back to UK. I will meet him on 18th September and we will shop for most things then as I'm not shipping it from China. We have several lists on the go...

lashingsofgingerbeer · 17/08/2018 09:12

Feels very strange this morning - almost the same feeling after you've been out on the town or hosted a big party - excitement, great time, tiredness & coming back down to earth - in fact, a feeling of, did that really just happen??

A lie in for me as shattered, rest of house at work & DD not home yet from friend's house after whole night of celebrations. My headspace is silent too! In Bjork's words it really is 'oh so quiet here!

FantasyAndHope · 17/08/2018 09:30

slarty
We are considering that

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/08/2018 09:41

I'm sitting here in my dressing gown feeling a bit stunned and tearful to be honest. I'm going to help dd with paperwork this afternoon - nice to have important stuff double checked by someone. Meal out this evening.
I managed about 6 hours sleep, woke up early Remembering. dd is going to her dream place to do the subject she loves to an obsession. Wow. She did it. Can't quite take it in yet.
I hope she likes it there!

DS got home at 5ish (with phone). Obviously still in bed, as is DD. DH and I only just up, we had friends round last night to celebrate 🍾
His welcome pack arrived in post yesterday. I've had a quick glance but it doesn't answer whether induction hob and I don't remember from visit! Still he can get a peer buddy who can answer such questions (if I can persuade him!)

Lepetitpiggy · 17/08/2018 09:55

OYBBK. She will love it - my home town as you know. I am very very pleased for you x

MrSlant · 17/08/2018 09:58

Ooof, morning! I swear I was coming down with flu yesterday, have never felt so rotten all afternoon and evening, could have sworn this morning would have been spent in a sweaty viral mess trying to train the dogs to bring me paracetamol but I'm just fine. Weird.

Congratulations everyone, we made it, so happy you got there raspberry, can't believe we weren't in clearing - grades were considerably below requirements. I think the nature of the course (as I think we've been saying for years now!) means that his supra-curricular (I think that's right, learned it on here) activities being pretty much the whole time he's not in school probably swung it for him along with an amazing reference from the deputy head. Anyway sod duvets and pans we've got a list including specific OS maps and a compass which are required for the first week. Got to get out and buy him some walking boots ASAP so he can wear them in.

Same OYBBK, dream course in dream place doing the thing he loves most. Just polar opposites in actual course content Grin.

So, is it too late to join a GCSE thread?

Lily125 · 17/08/2018 10:22

Many congratulations to all of the DC who got the grades they hoped for or needed, and sending good wishes for those disappointed or still in limbo. DS got exactly what he needed and will be off to Warwick, and I'm thrilled for him. Very exciting time, though in our house we're all still quite exhausted and a little overwhelmed, which has caught me by surprise a little. Need to wait till after the weekend I think to regroup and start planning.

ShanghaiDiva · 17/08/2018 10:28

Lily 125
My son is also going to Warwick.

adrinkofwater · 17/08/2018 10:48

Feeling strange here too. Thrilled that DD is going where she wants to do what she wants, but I've hardly seen her. Out with boyfriend in the day then clubbing with a big group last night. She's working today, then off to s Christian festival tomorrow! Not sure when it will sink in, or when we can start to get stuff organized - although she hasn't heard about accommodation yet, so we don't know what size the bed is!Grin

TheThirdOfHerName · 17/08/2018 11:05

If anyone's DC is considering opening a student bank account with Santander, be aware that this cannot be done in person in a branch (as we found out this morning). It can only be done online.

ShanghaiDiva · 17/08/2018 11:30

Third
Thanks for that. Ds was looking at Santander. Alhough ds is a British citizen he has never lived in the UK so not sure how successful he will be at opening an online account. He needs to get a national insurance number and will need to be interviewed to verify his identity so a few things to sort out before he can open the account, I suspect.

TheThirdOfHerName · 17/08/2018 11:46

Santander do an Essentials Current Account for people who have recently moved to the UK. This helps them build up a credit score so they can then open a regular account e.g. student account
