You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

Oh Petals thank you, I’ve just asked to join the group as I am pretty clueless! Thanks.

Slartybartfast · 16/08/2018 20:17

I am so so proud of dd who got bbc, she did ask about a re-mark for the c, she got into her choice, but is not sure if she is going till next year, girl done good

littledrummergirl · 16/08/2018 20:40

Janus I think a lot of universities stated AAB as a minimum in biology, chemistry and one other apart from a few exclusions.
The key is work experience, lots of it and prepare for some intense interview days.
The best thing is to look at the websites as they are all slightly different.

Lolimax · 16/08/2018 20:41

Does anyone feel strangely odd tonight? DS still doesn’t know his BTEC results but knows he got into his choice of uni. He wasn’t worried in the slightest, I had a very anxious night last night!
So now I come to terms with the fact my ‘baby’ (albeit 20 years old and 6 foot) goes off in September. My DD has come to live at home after graduating so no empty nest but having been a single parent through their teens, and him being borderline SEN it’s suddenly hitting me that he’s going. I’m so excited for him. But it’s the end of something as well isn’t it?
Sorry for the meh moment but I guess you of all people would get it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 20:45

I'm feeling a mix of things. Utterly delighted and pleased for dd, but also aware that today will be the start of goodbyes and change for her and I feel sad for that bit of her, that must be feeling that. I think it will come to the forefront when today's news sinks in a bit.

I had an hour or so when DH was out and DC were elsewhere in the house. What struck me was the quiet and then I realised that a lot of the quiet was in my head. All the 'if/but/maybe' thoughts had stopped.

The next stage is practical, getting things together.

As a 1 year veteran of uni, DS1 went last year some essentials for the list are:

Memory foam mattress topper
Pillows
Fold up storage boxes
Drying rail for radiator
Fold up airer
Extension cables
Popcorn maker for movies in room
George Foreman grill
Rice cooker
Storage trolly thing for shower room
After lots of broken bowls, melanine are good
Check cooker if there is one - DS flat had an induction one and we had to buy a second set of pans
Thermal coffee cup for taking coffee to lectures

TheThirdOfHerName · 16/08/2018 21:43

Slartybartfast same grades as DS1. Smile

bruffin · 16/08/2018 21:43

Ds took a smoothie maker with him.

PandaG · 16/08/2018 21:50

Pretty sure DS can't take any electrical kitchen appliances...but he will be taking a huge desktop computer he built himself! My parents used to run a B&B so will be filching spare crockery and bedding etc. from them before we buy anything new.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 21:57

dd is only allowed a kettle. But hey, that's all you need for pot noodles Wink

OP posts:
PandaG · 16/08/2018 22:07

Which college kitten?? Maybe DS can have a kettle, as you say, all you need for pot noodle!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 22:20

I can't say here Panda, don't want to out her :) Ill pm you.

third your ds1 did so well, and you were worried that he wouldn't!!! great news

i think we are only just beginning to relax now. 12 hours later. ds actually said he was going out tomorrow, the hibernation has eased off.

unfortunately gsce anxiety beginning to bite, and all the alevel prep looming

Petalflowers · 16/08/2018 22:37

GCSE anxiety for us also... . However, feel fairly relaxed after a nice glass of vino.

Wine
TheThirdOfHerName · 16/08/2018 22:57

I'm feeling less anxious about GCSE results, partly because DS2 is more academically able than DS1 and partly because he doesn't get as stressed.

He'll hopefully get 7s and 8s and will get into his first choice of sixth form. He wants to study Physics and has his sights set on some quite high-ranking universities, so the GCSE grades will be useful to gauge how feasible that is.

MajesticWhine · 16/08/2018 23:04

I'm less anxious about GCSEs mainly because DD2 actually did some work unlike DD1. Still it's a really stressful time.

DrPeppersPhD · 16/08/2018 23:19

I too am feeling a bit weird, relieved its over, not entirely sure it's real, emotionally drained but so thrilled with my results, wondering about the re mark but not sure it matters overly either way.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 23:30

If there's no risk of it affecting outcome I'd go for a remark, just so that in the future you aren't always wondering.

DS1 swears by his mattress topper. I brought it home a week early oncevto make sure all his stuff fitted in the car and he had a terrible weeks' sleep. He hadn't realised how much difference it made until then. Except now he has a 4' bed and mattress topper is a 3' single.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 16/08/2018 23:34

*week's

BagelGoesWalking · 17/08/2018 00:35

Myeastername that's lovely. My DD didn't have to go into school as results were on the portal. When she goes in early sept to get the certificates, she's planning on seeing all her teachers (bar one!) to thank them. They were all really good, encouraged her so much but ere also tough when needed. Extra clinics, past paper clubs with tea and biscuits, always help available. Huge admiration for teachers.

Travelledtheworld · 17/08/2018 05:45

Definitely Mattress cover and laundry bag.
Most university residences don't allow students to bring their own electrical equipment and there isn't storage space for things like toasted sandwich makers and rice cookers.

DD had a tiny ensuite room. Definitely no room for a clothes airer, and you would have caused a fire by hanging anything on the electric wall heater.

I had to do a bit of hunting around for a small double sized fitted sheet. Dunelm came up tops for this.

Petalflowers · 17/08/2018 07:10

The Day is Over!!

Guess now I ought to show my face on the GCSE thread, for next weeks countdown.

Hope everyone is okay this morning.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/08/2018 07:45

Morning Petal!
