They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

Hello everyone, had to join the chat as we are now only a week away. All the years of schooling amount to this really. It's a strange feeling, as a parent as you want them to do well but at the same time it's the end of their being full time at home if they do well. Keep getting a huge knot in my stomach worrying about the results and then the consequences. Trying not to say much to DS so getting it off my chest to you lovely lot.

Lily125 · 09/08/2018 20:56

Kind thoughts and very best wishes marmite.

DS mentioned this evening about it being exactly a week till results day, and when I asked how he's feeling he said he feels good and optimistic. I so hope, for him, that his gut feeling is right. He also said that he's getting bored as he doesn't have anything he wants to do over the next week, he just wants the week to go quickly. Oh me too. Good luck to you all and your DC.

Marmie4 · 09/08/2018 21:11

Thanks Lily, it's going to be a long week that's for sure. DS finished school about 2 months ago and he's bored too, he is going to the gym most days though which is helping. Fingers crossed for everyone and a relaxed run up.

Flowers marmite

chocolateworshipper · 09/08/2018 21:22

For BTEC parents only

Do you know what happens if DC don't go to college on results day - do colleges post the certificates or do DC need to arrange to go in on a different day?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/08/2018 21:25

Grin at the stern face!

Welcome newcomers :)

chocolate I think colleges will send btec certificates - students do usually know their grades before now I think

Stopyourhavering64 · 09/08/2018 21:32

chocolateworshipper my dd got her certificates sent to her
She knew she'd got her place at Uni about 2-3 weeks before A levels I seem to remember

bruffin · 09/08/2018 21:33

Chocolateworshipper
Dd received her certificates last week.
Nettleskins
OB gave her a lower offer MMM instead of DMM. Ive just found OT is in clearing for OB.

flatmouse · 09/08/2018 21:38

marmite hope all goes well Thanks

DS can get results online from 6am, college open to assist at 8:30.
I had in my head that B was 48 points, and discovered today that B is 40. He's going to struggle to get 96, so hope they will accept lower.

Petalflowers · 09/08/2018 22:35

Went through dcs wardrobe today. However, after a long period of inactivity due to revising, driving (therefore not walking to catch bus), lack of exercise (due to revision, the heat);etc has meant dc has put on weight and some of his trousers no longer fit. I’ve been tryiny to encourage him to exercise, without giving him a complex of being fat (he’s not, just a size bigger, and un-toned).

Went to outlet centre to get the odd bits of clothing he needs. Ended up getting one thing not on the list, and nothing which was! Probably cost me more in petrol than what I saved!

This time next week I can’t even drink, as younger dc has a club to,go to

starfleet · 09/08/2018 22:36

Wishing you the best marmite. Sending positive MN vibes.

M&S have a decent budget range of stuff online that could be useful for those shopping for DC's. Duvets, bedding, towels, kitchen stuff etc. I've only bought a couple of things but they are still in packaging and in the garage.

Anxiety is kicking in. DS has taken extra shifts at work to keep himself occupied.

And this might be useful

Heavy heart tonight. Not just the Day That Shall Not Be Discussed looming but tomorrow is DFIL's funeral. Long drive from North Yorkshire to Somerset tomorrow morning. DD seems okay about the eulogy at the moment but I've got an awful feeling that I'm going to be stepping in. He was a kind, generous, caring but non- demonstrative man who loved his grandchildren (and me I think) and I want all to go well.

DS18 hasn't mentioned results for two weeks. I'm not pushing it. His lovely girlfriend is on a brass band tour in Canada at the moment (due back tomorrow) so I imagine he won't surface from her house for a few days.

Still treading the wary path. One of his classmates walked into the sea (on purpose ) when he was down south last year and didn't come back. So many more examples than my school years which is horrible. I am practising calm (not very well)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/08/2018 22:52

Hobbit we will be thinking of you.

For you marmite Flowers

And a warm welcome to all of the newcomers, nice to have some extra company now things are hotting up!

DD is really suffering now it’s getting closer, I don’t think she’s really switched off very much at all this summer. We had a couple of weeks away on holiday which at least got her away physically if not mentally. And tomorrow we’re making the long drive to visit grandparents for a long weekend. I’m hoping that coping with them will take her mind off of next week at least a little!

It’s making me more anxious not knowing if we’ll find out via UCAS, school or a uni email. I wish there was a definite place and exact time to prepare for, and not so many different scenarios going through my head.

Just want to get it over and done with now, DD can’t think about anything else or do anything very much for thinking about it, so the spell needs to be broken. Her insurance choice asked her to confirm accommodation yesterday which was awkward timing I thought!

YippeeTeenager · 09/08/2018 22:59

Best of luck tomorrow Hobbit, really hope all goes well. Your DD is very courageous to have put herself forward for the eulogy, whether she makes it through the whole thing or not. Really impressive.

marmiteloversunite · 09/08/2018 23:31

Hope tomorrow is ok Hobbit. That is a lot of travelling even without the stress of the day.

Petalflowers · 09/08/2018 23:32

Will be thinking of you tomorrow Hobbit.

Petalflowers · 09/08/2018 23:33

And sorry to hear about dcs classmate. How awful.

HesMyLobster · 10/08/2018 00:05

Will be thinking of you tomorrow hobbit, and your lovely, brave daughter - I hope it goes as well as it possibly can.
Awful to hear about your DS's friend, that's horrendous, how sad.

I know DD is having a wonderful time at the festival so that's keeping her mind off The Day. I'm beginning to wish I'd planned something fun for myself too - trying to keep busy with jobs like cupboard sorting but my brain just keeps running in circles.

I know exactly what you mean about the uncertainty of which result will come from where first yippee - it's an added worry we could all do without!

UrsulaPandress · 10/08/2018 00:53

Oh my goodness hobbit. Sad

Although I am still reeling from listening to a woman on R4 this morning who I think works in a University but has a second job killing mentally ill people in a euthanasia clinic. And that is how she described it.

starfleet · 10/08/2018 07:51

Hope all goes well today hobbit.

HardwickWhite · 10/08/2018 08:15

You’ve got to love the new improved MN targeted ads. Did anyone else get an ad for clearing Hmm

chocolateworshipper · 10/08/2018 08:24

Flowers hobbit

Thanks for the feedback about BTEC certificates. DD has only had confirmation that one of the 3 courses has been externally moderated - so I guess she won't get certificates until everything has been externally moderated

TheThirdOfHerName · 10/08/2018 08:50

HardwickWhite I'm getting ads for chafing cream. In Dutch (or could be Flemish?).
We're in Flanders, near the border of the Netherlands. It has been 37 degrees this week and DH has been complaining about his sweaty nether regions. 😲
