They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

im a bit worried as DD received an email from her insurance as if she was going there. DD did btecs and exceeded their offer and everything on track/sims looks right.
Hoping its a mistake.

marmiteloversunite · 09/08/2018 14:17

We had a weird AS day last year. DD passed her driving test but got a D in Maths. It was a very emotional day!

Hoping next week is smoother for her but will be driving her to school.

I have had fun making her a rainy day box today. Thank you to the person who suggested it. Got lots of silly little things to cheer her up.

Also got some reduced towels in Tesco. Also a duvet and pillows as wherever she goes she will need those.

Trying to get a little bit more prepared as it looks like I will be having some surgery and treatment. Get final results for biopsies next Friday so going to be a very difficult week for me. Initial biopsy has shown small area of cancer. I don't want to bombard you with my illness but many of you were very kind when I was going for my tests.

So trying to concentrate on uni preparations this week. Also have DD's 19th Birthday in September. I can see a lot of internet shopping coming on! Wink

UrsulaPandress · 09/08/2018 14:40

Oh marmite. If it's small then it can be taken out and hopefully that will be it.

I've still not got the results of my check up Hmm. I know DD is worried as she keeps asking if I've heard yet.

bruffin I've read somewhere that insurance sometimes confirm the place but it doesn't mean they haven't got into their firm.

Knittinganewme · 09/08/2018 14:58

Bruffin don't worry about it. Although they get the results ahead of the candidates the unis are prohibited by UCAS from any communication that would give the candidates a clue.

Marmite you can bombard me any time you like.

Downeyhouse · 09/08/2018 15:21

Marmite sorry they found that but good it is small and hopefully your op and treatment will be quickly over and manageable.

Bruffin was the email from Sussex?

Ds’ friend had one from Sussex asking him to send his results by 10/8 (we have had the results since early July). He thought it meant his firm (which has kept him waiting 5 weeks and will only let him know next week) had rejected him.

Turned out the form had not rejected him (yet) and it was just a badly worded email from Sussex (not cool Sussex).

bruffin · 09/08/2018 15:39

Thanks Knitting

There are so many anomalies to the this process it is no wonder we need a support group to get through it!! I don't know where I would be without the general accumulation of knowledge from you guys!!

Nettleskeins · 09/08/2018 15:55

Marmite this happened to my mum about a year and a half ago, she had minor surgery and some radio over a month and is now clear. It was a realyl exhausting process mentally, but physically the treatment it was not so bad as she thought. But she had to drive about an hour and half to each hospital appt and then back again, for her it was the sheer distances involved. The great thing is to find it whilst it is small.

a family friend has just asked me to write to another close relative with some cheering "good" news to cheer her up; she is very ill. It reminds me how usually I am very pessimistic in my family news stories, they are tales of madness and strange goings on; I need to change my version of the summer holidays and remove all references to Fortnite, heatwaves, nervous breakdowns, quarrelling siblings, marital arguments and exam failures HmmBlush

I've put away various suitcases and made a start on ds2's bedroom. Ds2 has ducked his Alevel prep and gone on a 10km walk. ds1 is Still waking up.

Nettleskeins · 09/08/2018 16:02

Bruffin I know this happened to someone else who put Bath first and got an email from Southampton (her insurance) congratulating her ON THE DAY of the results. Apparently it is a way of reminding the candidate that there is another uni which really wants them, in the unlikely event that they change their mind during the first term or just before going to uni. Which has of course been known to happen. Even with an unconditionals I'm expecting there to be still some emails from the other unis ds went to visit or even just registered for Open Days.

It is odd, I did ask him if he had considered going back to his higher grade choices and rejecting his unconditional if it happened that he got better grades than he had thought he would. And he said firmly NO. I want to go to X now.

marmiteloversunite · 09/08/2018 16:14

Thanks for the positive comments. I knew you guys would make me feel better.

DD back from China. Had a fab time. She has one more concert tomorrow evening and then I get her home on Saturday. I believe she has missed us which is nice.

HesMyLobster · 09/08/2018 16:16

Oh my goodness - this time next week . . . Confused

I can't believe how quickly the days are going.

Marmite I'm so sorry you're going through this, everything crossed it can be easily removed and that will be the end of it Thanks

Agree I don't know how I'd be coping without all of you to share info and stories with.

Mumstaxi2 welcome - I can't imagine what it must be like having 2 go at the same time.

Gnome chuckling at the thought of you running in circles with pants on your head! Grin that's exactly how I feel whenever I let myself think too long!

HesMyLobster · 09/08/2018 16:17

That's lovely Marmite, Bet you can't wait to get her home! Smile

Bakeandyarn · 09/08/2018 16:17

DS had several emails from his firm back in July but nothing since. There have been a few “reminders” from his insurance but nothing that I know of recently. I don’t like to mention it to him now because I don’t think I’ll be able to sound nonchalant enough! Might have to check his email in secret - but he’s always glued to his phone!

HesMyLobster · 09/08/2018 16:18

Nettle I think if you wrote about your family exactly as you do here it would cheer your relative up - you always make me smile!

lashingsofgingerbeer · 09/08/2018 16:47

Big hugs Marmite & hopefully everything can be done & dusted for you soon. Enjoy having your DD back in the fold & plan something nice to do together. Hopefully good news/results for you too Ursula

I am just trying to get things in place for next Thursday - forms & personal info etc. ready for DA firm if all goes well with her grades & number for DD to tell university to release Unconditional place & a reminder to not leave school without remark forms in case we have to get anything remarked - hopefully no plan C needed on the day that is nearly here now - 🙈🙉🙊

raspberryrippleicecream · 09/08/2018 17:32

Marmite I am so sorry to read that. Sending lots of positive vibes.

UCAS seems pretty adamant track won't be up before 8.00, they say any reports of earlier is a myth!

DS1 got an email direct from his uni 2 years ago. He woke up to it, about 6.15. I think they are allowed to send them from 6.

raspberryrippleicecream · 09/08/2018 17:34

Ursula DD also says that about disappointing me

2gorgeousboys · 09/08/2018 18:01

How you don't mind me joining you at this late stage. I was on the GCSE threads and have been following these from a distance. Stress levels in our house have risen considerably over the last few weeks.

DS1 is convinced he won't get what he needs for his first choice and as his insurance is asking for the same grades he's convinced he's not going anywhere! I'm not allowed to prepare or buy anything.

Stopyourhavering64 · 09/08/2018 18:04

I've been through the whole results process 3 times and it didn't get any easier, let me tell you!
Dd1 got e mail from her first choice uni before she went to school to get results, congratulating her UCAS had updated before 8am....
Dd2 did BTEC so she knew weeks before A level results and was very chilled about whole thing and had accommodation sorted well in advance as well
Ds missed his first choice course last year and was devastated - he came back from getting his results and then decided he didnt want to go to insurance choice uni after all, so phoned first choice uni to see what courses he could do with his grades.....he was actually very calm and collected when arranging all this - I was so impressed!
He then had to go onto track to reject his insurance choice so UCAS could offer him his new course( an anxious wait over the weekend)...the uni he applied to were very good at talking him through the process
Thankfully accommodation was also kept on hold at his uni while the new offer was processed
This will be first year since 2010 I haven't had to wait anxiously for results!...good luck to everyone waiting

Bakeandyarn · 09/08/2018 18:13

I know that schools can give results from 6 am so I guess it follows that universities can email from that time, I hope they do! Stress levels are definitely rising here, desperately trying to keep busy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/08/2018 18:36

Hugs Marmite. Not long til you see your dd again.

It's good to be prewarned that insurance places like to psych people out. :-/

Just 6 days of not knowing though I'm wondering whether it might be better to be in this state of ignorance rather than the potential of things going wrong.

I did manage to forget about stuff today. That was good.

HardwickWhite · 09/08/2018 18:58

Best wishes Marmite. It must make a huge difference to know you'll have your DD back.

I am definitely starting to fret properly. I may step away for a while, because I know I will circle more and more.

On a lighter note, I saw a really pretty laundry bag in JL today, and picked it up for DD, even though I already got her a cheapie one from Ikea. She might use both...Hmm

DD1 will be home tomorrow, which I am so looking forward to. DD2 arrives home at the weekend, and I can't believe she has been gone for three weeks. That also means we are almost half way through the holidays. How on earth did that happen!

marmiteloversunite · 09/08/2018 20:01

Thanks everyone. DH is taking me g week off work do he can be at home with us and enjoy all of the stress too! Grin

Hope you get good results soon Ursula!

TheThirdOfHerName · 09/08/2018 20:14

DS1 mentioned his results this afternoon for the first time in ages. He is convinced he has done badly and is feeling quite defeatist about the whole thing.

My job-share partner left (retraining for new career); my employer is interviewing for the position and has invited me to join the interview panel - on the afternoon of Thursday 16 August!

There'll be time to take DS1 to collect his results, bring him home and support him in making any necessary phone calls (e.g. for accommodation at insurance) first.

I know he needs to inform Student Finance if he goes to his insurance choice - does anyone know what the deadline is for doing this?

Knittinganewme · 09/08/2018 20:15

I had a massive laundry bag made of two kitchen curtains sewn together with a drawstring at the top. I still have it, I use it for storing fleece in these days (straight off the sheep).
