They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

All the best for today Hobbit. Hope travel is smooth and DD is able to honour her gf in the way she wants to.

We are back from holidays - got back yesterday after 5 nights with kids then 5 nights without. DC got back from Christian festival yesterday too...I don't expect to see either of them until late this afternoon!

I had washing on the line overnight as got huge amounts to turn around - youngest is away again on Sunday - but have woken up to burning smells so the whole lot may need rewashing. Scary that a fire miles away is affecting air quality at such a distance.

2gorgeousboys · 10/08/2018 09:29

Hope today goes as well as it can for you all Hobbit.

I'm Chair of Governors at the boys school and am going in to school to meet the Head teacher on Wednesday and have a briefing on results. Not sure I'll be able to cope knowing he will know DS1's results.

Knittinganewme · 10/08/2018 09:40

Hobbit I hope it goes well today, it won't be as bad as you fear because these things never are. If you're coming down the M1 give me a wave as you go past Woodall Services. I thought at the outset that I would be able to read my husband's eulogy but I had the minister prepared to do it and on the day I knew that I wouldn't be able to stand there. If she can't do it, it's ok not to.

I wish I was on holiday this week, there's so much to do but Mr Ostrich isn't ready. I might have to launch into housework again as a distraction.

TheThird sorry to laugh at your husband's discomfort but I needed the smile.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 10/08/2018 09:42

Hoping you & your lovely DD get through today Hobbit Flowers Hearing about the DC classmate walking into the sea puts a lot into perspective about mental health as next week looms for all of us too.

PostNotInHaste · 10/08/2018 09:53

Thinking of you all Hobbit Flowers

Downeyhouse · 10/08/2018 10:22

Good luck for today Hobbitt
Hope it all goes well.

Just been making a list of things I think he'll need to take. Hopefully my day off on Friday will be a shopping trip to Ikea rather than supporting Clearing calls and/or last minute Uni visits!

Knittinganewme · 10/08/2018 12:37

Mine had a letter from college this morning with the arrangements for Thursday. It's all getting a bit real.

Hoveringhobbit · 10/08/2018 12:51

Thank you all for your best wishes. Currently sitting in stationary traffic on the M5 between J17 and J14 but the mood is surprisingly upbeat.

HesMyLobster · 10/08/2018 14:08

Gosh 2gorgeousboys That would drive me crazy! I don't think I'd have the willpower not to beg for a clue - actual torture to be so close!

Third that really made me laugh - scary that "the internet" is listening in though!

HesMyLobster · 10/08/2018 14:09

Hobbit hope you're not stuck for too long.

2gorgeousboys · 10/08/2018 14:25

I know Lobster! I think the HT would tell me if I asked but that's not fair to DS as they are his results (and I wouldn't be able to hide my emotions if I found out!)

Trufflethewuffle · 10/08/2018 15:40

DS1 is already in as he has worked this year. He is packing up ready to move to a flatshare in London, sharing with DH who works there in the week.

DS2 is hoping to read English with a music minor at Southampton, they have just asked for his grade 8 certificates. I think the communication from them has made him realise he is on countdown now.

DS3 seems to be lazing around all summer without a care in the world but deep down he is worried about results.

And then the week after it's GCSE results for DD.

No wonder I'm getting through the gin.

Nettleskeins · 10/08/2018 20:31

Third I went on Mumsnet in Berlin and immediately was bombarded with adverts for German baby accessories, and of course, Nappies. But not in England for some reason. The internet understands me here and only offers me trips to Barcelona

Banquosghost · 10/08/2018 20:43

We have spent the last couple of weeks focussing on cooking skills. Whatever the outcome next week, at least we can be proud that DS has cooked every dinner for the past ten days including some superb salmon burgers this evening! I really recommend the Nosh book for students which costs every meal and also gives it a difficulty rating.

Nettleskeins · 10/08/2018 20:51

Ds hasn't received his Btec subsidiary cert yet..Hmm or his grade 8 cert..or even if he has passed Confused

surprisingly chilled here. everyone has given up. we are listening to the Messiah staring at rainwashed white petunias..

They are filming a supermarket Halloween ad down the road, so ds2 is following the film vans around.

Hobbit hope you get through tomorrow, and Knitting that would have required superhuman strength Sad to read the eulogy, I don't know anyone who has managed it for a father mother or spouse.

this is too much I am now getting fat lady ads!!! the cheek...

Petalflowers · 10/08/2018 21:32

I can second the Nosh book for Students. Dc is cooking two meals a week from it (and Jamie Oliver Five Ingredient book).

Dc’s First creation was a bacon and potato bake. Delicious. I shall go and mention the salmon burgers to him.

Banquosghost · 10/08/2018 21:35

Salmon burgers were from a BBC Good Food book - recipe here www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7712/superhealthy-salmon-burgers

2gorgeousboys · 10/08/2018 21:50

Looks like i need to order the Nosh cook book and get DS practicing!

Petalflowers · 10/08/2018 22:10

Dc has jsut given me his food, request for next week (online order). Chicken chow mien (recipe sourced from Internet), and roast. Normally we’re a Sunday roast typemof family, but we’re busy every weekend,,so we’re breaking convention and having a mid-week roast.

TheThirdOfHerName · 11/08/2018 00:18

DS1 admitted that he is feeling a bit overwhelmed with the things he needs to do next week and before uni generally. I've made him a list of

  • Things that can be done before results day.
  • Things that need to be done on results day.
  • Things that should be done soon after results day.
  • Things that need to be done before term starts.
TheThirdOfHerName · 11/08/2018 00:39

Nando's has a deal on Thursday where Y13s can get free chicken or halloumi if they bring their ID and their A-level/BTEC results.

TheThirdOfHerName · 11/08/2018 00:41

I think the T&Cs include a minimum spend of £7.
