They've left college, now we are trying not to think about a certain date.

Oh gosh! That sounds like I'm wishing harm upon your innocent horse Blush
I don't want anything else to happen to him really!

HesMyLobster · 08/08/2018 23:20

I on the other hand have an empty house and no work! I haven't been this chilled in a loooong time!
I have spent this evening drinking wine and working my way through all the tv that's been building up in my recordings for the last several months!

(DDs have been in contact - they are fine and having a blast, so not even any anxiousness about them for now!)

UrsulaPandress · 09/08/2018 05:46

I said the very same thing to DD yeasterday Lobster. I except to arrive at the farm this morning and for him to hand me one of his shoes over the door.

Lucky you. I love an evening alone. Which is what I was planning for tonight.

GnomeDePlume · 09/08/2018 06:01

One week to go

GnomeDePlume · 09/08/2018 06:03

Probably a stupid question Ursula but do you re-use the shoes?

UrsulaPandress · 09/08/2018 06:31

Depends on how much he has been ridden, particularly on the roads. If he hasn't been out much then the farrier reuses them. Takes them off, reheats them, trims the hoof then reapplies them.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 09/08/2018 08:22

Gnome nooo! That's too scary to even contemplate - last time I stuck my head in the sand we had at least 3 weeks left! All this talk in the press about parents going with their DC because of all the changes to exams is scary too - do they know something we don't about the grades already??!

Ursula good luck to DD for dressage comp & hopefully sane horse today! Hopefully indoor show as it's pouring down here!

Lobster that sounds like a very chilled evening! Unfortunately not such a chilled vibe here as DD starting to stress snap - hopefully the torture will be worth it Confused

GnomeDePlume · 09/08/2018 08:31

I suppose knowing where the errant shoe is is a plus?

As you can tell I know nothing about horses but do have a voracious appetite for horse poo (enormous allotment, I dont actually eat it!)

Knittinganewme · 09/08/2018 08:40

I'll think of you tonight Ursula, I will be having an evening in (no surprises there) with a meal cooked by someone else. If I'd known I could get a night off cooking by buying a couple of books I would have done it months ago.

I am trying to get the ostrich to consider plates and cutlery but he's having none of it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/08/2018 09:15

For the want of a nail the shoe was lost.....

Sorry, when I get anxious I start to get repetitive songs or verses going in my head, as I get more anxious they go round faster and faster, so I'll share my ear worms with you all, so you can go as bonkers as me.

Good luck with the dressage Ursula!

DD still firmly ostrich here.

We are away camping for a couple of days which has helped I think.

DD is at a rural school, parents tend to wait in the carpark while DC go in, and hopefully re-emerge to share results before disappearing back inside. Signal dreadful). Some DC drive themselves, I'm not happy about DD driving herself that morning. I also think if it is as bad as DD thinks it is, she will also want me there, even if in the background.

Think I'm actually grateful to think this time next week we'll know.

Knittinganewme · 09/08/2018 10:09

I told myself that earlier this morning, this time next week the waiting will be over.

Bakeandyarn · 09/08/2018 10:21

Woke up at 7.45 this morning and my first thought was this time next week we will be on our way to school. I wonder if we will know whether he has his place or not by then or if we will have to wait until we get his results from school. I really hope he knows before!

Petalflowers · 09/08/2018 10:21

Raspberry - hope you are not camping in my necks of the woods -rain, rain, rain.

raspberryrippleicecream · 09/08/2018 10:46

Sun shining today! Rain tomorrow.

GnomeDePlume · 09/08/2018 12:19

Bake I think it just depends on how quickly Track gets updated. DD1 knew from very early.

This weekend the universities get the results and start the sifting process.

raspberry not driving would probably be a smart move however the results are. DD2 has decided that if she knows she is in then she will walk to school to pick up the results but if she knows she is not in then I will drive her so she can get back home to work through Clearing options.

What I don't know is what she wants to do if Track hasn't updated!

Aaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!

mumstaxi2 · 09/08/2018 12:24

Can I join you for the next month?!
Both DS starting uni this year!
Feeling overwhelmed with having 2 lists and the thought of loosing them both in one weekend - no more DC at home Shock

derekthe1adyhamster · 09/08/2018 12:27

A good friend works at a university. They know already.
I am fully ostrich about it all

Bakeandyarn · 09/08/2018 12:28

Thanks Gnome, I’m really hoping we hear something earlier than 8am, I would rather be prepared. Is it possible there may be an email from the university itself before 8am, anyone with any experience? DS is definitely not driving himself, last year for AS results we were waiting (forever!) at the traffic lights by the school and his friends had got in a few minutes earlier so were messaging with their results which only added to the tension. Wish I didn’t know that the universities will find out tomorrow, they have our DC’s futures in their hands!

Bakeandyarn · 09/08/2018 12:30

Aaaagh! They know already! Maybe I could get a temporary job there, just for few days you know!

flatmouse · 09/08/2018 12:40

So this time in a week, we'll either be incredibly happy or major stressed! Aarrggghh. Good job I'm on holiday next week (at home).

adrinkofwater · 09/08/2018 12:41

Got an email back from DDs first choice uni saying after careful consideration they can't consider the disrupted teaching as the exam board has been informed. Let's hope the school really did inform the exam board and give them all the information they need!

UrsulaPandress · 09/08/2018 13:02

They know! Aaaargh.

DD wants me to take her in. She says if she is sobbing hysterically she wouldn't be able to drive home. I remember mum driving me to get mine and I was so nervous my legs wouldn't work properly.

All DD keeps saying is 'pleased don't be disappointed with me'. I can remember feeling the same when I phoned home after one of my degree final papers to tell mum I'd failed as I had written about a Shakespeare play I had never even read.

And breathe.

TheThirdOfHerName · 09/08/2018 13:04

DS1 hasn't mentioned results day or university.

He has planned haircut and outfits for the prom and after-party (19th) and how he is going to get to Reading festival.

It's interesting how he manages to be organised when it comes to his social life.

spababe · 09/08/2018 13:35

We had a shit AS day last year (and I waited at home) so I'm definitely going in with DS for the results. College opens at 8am same time as track. DS very anxious already :-(
