DS1 is revising Gladstone & Disraeli.

He did take two Saturdays off work but was back today, and has been asked to go in again tomorrow because they're always extra busy on Father's Day.

Nettleskeins sorry to hear your DD is being a bit dramatic today.

Nettleskeins · 16/06/2018 21:25

gosh that is very dedicated, he sounds like a very sensible young man.

I remember Gladstone and Disraeli. Gladstone cutting down trees, and Disraeli being the blank page between the Old and New Testaments. And something about them switching roles, was Disraeli suddenly a champion of electoral reform without quite meaning to? That's off the top of my head. And Peel and the Corn Laws..not a happy memory

Downeyhouse · 16/06/2018 21:49

Nice day here after the stresses of last week.

Took ds and his closest friend to buy their suits for their graduation ceremony. Holding onto these moments With him as I can hear that pesky countdown clock ticking down time to September.

They were out last night and tonight and tomorrow it is back to the books for the last push (he has 3 oral exams between 26/6 and 2/7).

I hope everyone is having post exam fun or pre exam calm and the stress levels are better than this time last week.

UrsulaPandress · 16/06/2018 21:52

We have prom dress stress. Again. A bit like Palace dress stress. Quitely screaming.

Downeyhouse · 16/06/2018 22:02

Oh Ursula :(

Good luck with the hunt for the right dress.

I am a total tom boy and live in trousers so it is a good thing I only have sons! Or we would be having prom dress drama too :)

As it was We ended up in 3 different shopping centers and 2 different countries before we found a suit!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/06/2018 22:03

stress levels are spikey here. All was calm and then it wasn't and I have no idea what the trigger was.

Dds dreams come down to two exams, one Monday, one thursday. If she doesn't make the grade on those two papers (half of offer holders don't) then it's Cambridge over. After all the goals she's achieved to get to this point it seems a terribly harsh thing. I can see why so many go for Oxford instead.

I think prom dress is ok here, as long as I haven't fed dd too many cooked breakfasts and snacks to keep her going!

OP posts:
raspberryrippleicecream · 16/06/2018 22:15

My prom dress sadly is not OK, I work with post 16 and its our prom on Friday and will be going. I'll need to sort something out.

DD is going to her Leaver's Dinner that night and is intending to wear cotton dungarees.

OYBBK that's so difficult!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/06/2018 22:22

It's horrible isn't it.

So emergency prom dress shopping then raspberry?

UrsulaPandress · 16/06/2018 22:24

Because of the hot weather and the need to look after stupid horse twice a day I have taken to wearing pop socks over my jeans, like gaiters. My arthritis causes my ankles to swell during the day making getting my wellies on for evening stables very painful. Pop socks kept my feet in check. So I spend all day in the house with my luvverly pop sock/gaiter ensemble which drives DD to distraction. I even collected her from school the other day sporting them.

Downey. Two countries!

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/06/2018 22:32

It won't be anything major Kitten but our kids will look very smart so its nice to make an effort. Usual work wear is jeans and t-shirts (not mainstream school) so they appreciate the effort!

Although I could also do two countries without much effort.

Ursula sounds very dashing!

lashingsofgingerbeer · 16/06/2018 23:06

Kitten best of luck to your DD for what sounds like a really tough week ahead.

It's at this point I'm glad DD's prom was a month ago, despite a stressful search for THE dress! not to mention how much it needed washing afterwards!

LoniceraJaponica · 16/06/2018 23:16

DD came home from a music event in town a bit fed up. She isn't 18 yet and so many places on a Saturday evening won't allow her in. Her boyfriend took her to the station for the 10 o'clock train. Everyone else is already 18 and living it up in the bars round town, and DD is sat next to me playing on her old DS.

Being the youngest has never held her back academically, but it has meant she has missed out on a lot of socialising in 6th form.

UrsulaPandress · 16/06/2018 23:24

Dd has leant her ID out to yet another 17 year old tonight. I only discovered today that she frequently also gives them her bank card so they have extra proof. 😱

LoniceraJaponica · 16/06/2018 23:56

DD look nothing like any of her friends. She has green hair which doesn't help Grin. Also she looks about 15.

Good luck to your DD Kitten
I hope your daughter picks up soon Fantasy
Good luck with prom dress shopping Ursula

Petalflowers · 17/06/2018 05:41

One more week to go and counting. One more week of trying to stay healthy, not giving them food poisoning, trying to stay calm, trying not to panic when you see them playing Fortnite instead of revising etc.

Then Freedom...!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/06/2018 08:17

That made me giggle Petal. No to food poisoning Grin

Thanks Lashings and Lonicera. Got to keep dd gently occupied today. We've ruled no revising (it's too late and if she did a bad practise paper at this point it would knock her confidence) and lots of resting.

It's tough not being able to join in in the social life Lonicera, it makes a massive difference I think.

Ursula eek!!!!! That's lovely of your dd, but blimey, a bit risky!

GnomeDePlume · 17/06/2018 08:30

I think we are at countdown stage. Final exams:

Tuesday: maths core 3
Wednesday: chemistry 3
Friday: maths core 4 & maths decision 2
Monday 25th: maths statistics 2

'Only' 5 papers to go. The end is nigh!

UrsulaPandress · 17/06/2018 08:36

Stupid question but why are there so many maths papers?

LoniceraJaponica · 17/06/2018 08:40

Feeling thankful that DD didn't do maths.

GnomeDePlume · 17/06/2018 08:47

So many maths papers - Further Maths. Also DD2 chose to resit a couple of papers from last year to try to improve her grade (A level maths in Y12 then FM in year 13). Maths is still currently modular so the grade from last year isnt yet 'banked'.

Nettleskeins · 17/06/2018 10:58

Kitten it won't be wasted...she will still have all that knowledge to use at whatever uni she goes to (and Warwick is very difficult to get into to do Maths, if that is her insurance, you still need the A*s) It is going to set her up for the next stage, whatever uni she gets to. My friend went through this last year, it is exhausting for the parents too, they [the students] are surprisingly resilient though when results come out, whatever happens.
Lonicera lovely elfin image!

Our dear neighbour (not entirely ironic, she is a nice lady but stuck in the 70's despite being my age) has lit an enormous bonfire because they cannot afford to take the garden waste away. I can hear her arguing with the helper not to dig up the wild strawberries. grrr. 5 years of derelict next door garden however has its compensation. Lots of wildlife and no parties/noise.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/06/2018 13:29

Each module has its own exam Ursula. There are 6 exams for FM and 6 for Maths, split over the two years. So they should 'only' need to do 6 papers this year, unless they are doing retakes or extra.

Dd doesnt have any retakes, but she did decide to take extra modules to give her a triple maths qualification. There's no advantage to this at all, other than some of the extra modules are helpful for STEP. But dd really really loves maths Grin Then she has the two STEP papers on top of them.

Thanks Nettle. :)

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/06/2018 13:32

'Just' 5 maths papers this week, two of them STEP, three of them core, cos dds exam board bizarrely needs two papers for c4.

OP posts:
Thesearepearls · 17/06/2018 13:34

Yes OYBBK there's a lot of maths papers. DS has 8 - the six modules he needs for Further Maths, plus an additional module he elected to do, plus (only) one STEP paper.
