just remembered a vomitous one - cheesecake

Of any description.

And pavlova. Why are people so pleased with themselves when they cook it? It's bloody horrible. What a waste of eggs.

MadameCh0let · 06/04/2008 18:11

Litterach, I don't believe you. I would have been looking under the pear for something more fattening....

SoupSledgon · 06/04/2008 18:11

The same reason fish people presume everyone likes curry

cocolepew · 06/04/2008 18:12

I like liver, this seems to make me a freak, according to people I work with.

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/04/2008 18:12

pavlova is nice if the meringue is crispy outside and chewy inside

Reading this thread makes me realise what a dustbin I am. I had thought 'til recently that I didn't like beetroot. I was delighted there was something I didn't like. But I tried it recently and it's ok with a slice of ham....

OverMyDeadBody · 06/04/2008 18:13

Oh God I hate tiramisu and triffle. They are just Wrong wrong wrong.

Best pudding ever is chocolate mousse or a proper cake.

Don't serve me anything flavoured with bloody alcohol either, if I want to taste alcohol I'll drink it, thank you very much!

OverMyDeadBody · 06/04/2008 18:14

Oh but a good pavlova, that's delish GetOrf!!

Slubberdegullion · 06/04/2008 18:14

MadameCh0let, we are the same....I feel a splinter thread coming on........

largeginandtonic · 06/04/2008 18:15

Love liver, olives, anchovies (really love them, bit addicted actually) dh made pizza the other night and i tried to hide my diasappointment over the lack of anchovies but couldnt

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/04/2008 18:16

mmm, anchovies, capers, olives - yum

Hallgerda · 06/04/2008 18:17

Ooh, I love them all. Not sure I'd describe myself as normal, mind you.

I'm sure you'd have liked my grandmother's trifle - but in your position I certainly wouldn't attempt to drive afterwards. It contained enough sherry that one couldn't tell the age of the sponge.

Slubberdegullion · 06/04/2008 18:18

thread for dustbins

mollymawk · 06/04/2008 18:21

Right, I want to invite you all round for dinner and for pudding I will serve a huge bowl of tinned Fruit Cocktail with Dream Topping. And there will be prize for whoever can work out what the weird round things are. I guess they were once grapes.

Tiramisu is indeed horrible.

Creme brulee is nice as long as you have a pneumatic drill handy to eat it with.

ruddynorah · 06/04/2008 18:29

i can not stand meringue. don't get it at all. i want pudding not whisked up air fgs. i do not want fruit either. pavlova is a shit pudding.

i will eat it though, i aint rude.

MadameCh0let · 06/04/2008 18:29

slubber, I've been at people's houses and had to rearrange my face into an "oooh lovely" face when I saw the pears coming out!!.

pointydog · 06/04/2008 18:30

I don't think you have had proper gooey chewy meringues.

kayzisexpecting · 06/04/2008 18:32

I love Tiramisu!! Its gorgeous!!

But trifle is a once a year at xmas and I am allergic to Bananas so banoffe pie is out.

Meringues and pavlova is delicious!!

Totally agree about pears. Yuck

mablemurple · 06/04/2008 20:34

The first time I had tiramisu it was home made by a friend who was not a cook. He hadn't whisked the egg yolks and sugar together properly, but had just mixed them up, so the bottom bit was just gagtastic slime, really.

Anyone for half a grapefruit sprinkled with instant coffee granules? (Another of his classics).

No-one?

MissPaulaYates · 06/04/2008 20:42

blackforest gateau

brown air
brown sickly creme
cold wet cherries suspended in said air

edam · 07/04/2008 09:35

I think, IIRC, that people who like olives and anchovies and capers etc. etc. are reacting to the newly discovered flavour, umame. (New as in wasn't around in the distant past when I was at school - we were just taught salty/sweet/bitter/sour, I think.)

Kewcumber · 07/04/2008 09:47

but you haven't had my tiramisu.

Mercy · 07/04/2008 10:02

Marzipan is foul - the worst cake in the world is Battenburg (why is it called that?) followed by cherry bakewell tart.
