what's the recipe paula?

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/04/2008 15:51

I make a mean chocolate trifle though:

chocolate cake/swiss roll or whatever to start with
drizzle/drench (according to your preference) with Tia Maria and Baileys
cover with custard, into which you have melted some/lots of chocolate
top with softly whipped cream
decorate with crushed Cadbury's Flake

then go and lie down in a darkened room for a week to let the calories digest

MissPaulaYates · 06/04/2008 15:52

its in 'how to eat'
basically a mix of greek yoghurt - cream and brown sugar mix then coat in sugar and leave (she says overnight i never do ) absolutely delicioso!

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/04/2008 15:52

sometimes I do two layers of custard - one which I have mixed with white chocolate the other which I have mixed with milk chocolate

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/04/2008 16:36

isn't bread pudding lots of old bread scrunched together with currants and sugar and baked - there must be something to bind it together too...love it.

SmugColditz · 06/04/2008 16:38

Marzipan is disgusting.

I mean it's just putty, right? To stick icing to cakes. Why would I put that in my mouth?

Twinkie1 · 06/04/2008 16:41

I hate tiramisu but love he ones that GU do in tiny pots - they are the nicest pudding in the whole of the world!

COD - taste them honestly you will like them!

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/04/2008 16:41

but marzipan is lovely - the best bit of a cake imo !

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/04/2008 16:42

my mum used to make proper creme caramel and baked custard - yummy

Mercy · 06/04/2008 16:48

What is banoffee pie? I've never tried it, sounds a weird combination.

Most puddings are over-rated anyway imo, especially ice-cream.

I get put off by daft names like 'death by chocolate' and 'missisippi mud pie'

DJCod · 06/04/2008 16:54

frekcle i think tis called Having An Opinion.

Never been a lover of puddings, would rather fill myself up with savoury foods. So never bother with puds in restaurants. But dinner parties you can't really avoid eating it, especially when homemade puddings are bought out all reverentially, like the bloody crown jewels on a cushion.

Tiramisu - what's the point. Coffee in puddings of all descriptions is execrable.

Trifle means cold custard which is like congealed pus imo.

Banoffee pie - bananas disgust me. Plus it has connotation of my gran's chocloate refrigerator cake which makes me heave.

Fruit salad - never had one which had any flavour. Plus is far too sensible. If you are going to bother with pudding at least make it decadent, not Rosemary Conley-ish.

I reserve my hatred for that most disgucting of puddings - summer pudding urgh

I like tarte au citron, tarte tatin and crumbles of any description. But my favoruite sweet treat which I have about once a year is a proper devon cream tea with real jam and artery thickening clotted cream.

DJCod · 06/04/2008 16:56

yes summer puddding
barf

MissPaulaYates · 06/04/2008 16:58

bread and butter pudding - puke on a plate
tiramapoo - nasty
trifle - cold custard - devils work
banofee- sloppy overripe nana's vom
fruit salad - too healthy

Rowlers · 06/04/2008 16:58

Add creme caramel to the list and I'm with you.
Vom.
Or that nasty Italian stuff - panacotta. Oh yuk. It's posh blancmange at best.

DJCod · 06/04/2008 16:59

yes italians need to stick to ice cream imo

OP posts:
MissPaulaYates · 06/04/2008 16:59

ooh yes slippy slimy cold creme caramel

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/04/2008 16:59

Summer pudding:
stale bread
naff old overripe berries
strawberries with texture of slugs
mix it all togethwe with far too much sugar
Expect people to eat it
No ta!

MrsMattie · 06/04/2008 17:00

Yes, pannacotta & creme caramel - revolting. That horrible chocolate torte thing with raspberry coulis that people always serve at weddings these days (ouch! sorry!). Yuk.

DJCod · 06/04/2008 17:00

i dont liek rapsberrie much
its the furriness

OP posts:
Mercy · 06/04/2008 17:01

Getorf - completely agree re tarte au citron and crumbles. Jam or syrup sponge puddings are good too.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/04/2008 17:02

creme brulee

My daughter loves this and always asks for it in restaurants

resent paying the best part of a fiver for a miniscule dish of cold custard and rock hard burnt sugar

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/04/2008 17:04

talking of summer pudding - can you remember on the Two Fat Ladies where Jennifer or Clarissa make a savoury summer pudding with tomatoes - eeewwwww
