I love all of the original three, but hate marzipan, pointless calorie laden stuff and ambivalent about anchovies as in I appreciate that they are essential in caeser salad, but otherwise wish that they didn't exist.

pointydog · 06/04/2008 14:34

slivered almonds and glace cherries on top of a trifle - I like that bit

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/04/2008 14:34

I like all of them (as long as trifle doesn't contain sherry), and would rather have any of them than chocolate cake.

I like Asda's chocolate trifle.

MrsMattie · 06/04/2008 14:36

Oh God, marzipan is evil. It's like medicinal-tasting lumps of sugar. Yuk. Ditto to Royal Icing. In fact, traditional wedding cake / Christmas cake (that solid fruit cake that would break your face if someone chucked a slice at you, topped with marzipan and polyfiller icing) is the most vile cake in the history of cakes.

Cappuccino · 06/04/2008 14:37

I am always quite dissapointed with my fruit salad tbh.

MrsMattie · 06/04/2008 14:40

PMSL@Capp

No matter how they dress it up, when somebody brings out fruit salad for dessert at a dinner party it is always a disappointment. You just think 'lazy bastards'.

yes Malory

blueberries and strawberries

with ice cream

soapbox · 06/04/2008 14:43

I'm not too fussy, but anything with a stong hint of almonds makes me heave (especially amarbloodyetto).

I also loath sweet and savory things mixed together. I once thought I would pass out when faced with a starter of poached pear and blue cheese salad! Blueegh!!!

myalias · 06/04/2008 14:44

3 listed deserts are awful - prefer summer pudding, toffee or summer berries roulade, tarte au citron and eton mess.

soapbox · 06/04/2008 14:44

Oh yes - fruit salad - no, no, no! If someone says fruit salad, I am expecting to be served a glass of grapefruit juice for my starter

Oh and no sorbet course - it is retro gone wrong!

Oh I like it too - but not served as a separate course. Shove a scoop of it on a platter of thinly sliced pineapple or mango for desert and that is fine!

Fruit Salad at a dinner party is a bit Calvinist. I would eat it...but joylessly.

ItsNotYouItsMe · 06/04/2008 14:49

I hate cheesecake, everyone thinks I am weird

TheFallenMadonna · 06/04/2008 14:49

I love trifle, fancy schmantzy with proper custard and old-fashioned with ladies fingers and Birds.

Fruit salad is meh. And my MIL puts banana into it which transports it from meh to bleurgh, and we are expected to eat it the next day as well, when the bananas have disintegrated and it is revolting.

PerkinWarbeck · 06/04/2008 14:50

I adore trifle.
You lot are freaks.
(agree that vermicelli on top is the Devil's Work tho)
