You know the one where you got to the table and your heart sank into your boots because you were starving and had been looking forward to your dinner only to find........

Sweet and sour chicken made with a lurid sauce from a packet or jar - I despised it.

mince and potatos with canned peas and carrots, im sure the mince was canned to - uuuggghhh, i feel sick just thinking about it.

oh and haddock and mash potatos that we would have as a "treat" , if we were very lucky we got frozen peas instead of marrowfat. oh god.

corned beef with beans and potato/bubble squeek, either that or spam - its a wonder i survived to adulthood really

wheelsonthebus · 18/03/2008 16:38

tapioca

lucyellensmum · 18/03/2008 16:38

i always thought sweetbreads were brains, but i am willing to be proved otherwise

cheesesarnie · 18/03/2008 16:40

Blandmum · 18/03/2008 16:41

Brains are brains

lucyellensmum · 18/03/2008 16:45

my australian aunt is a tight old bint and they used to get breast of mutton from the butchers, that they used to give away as dog bones and serve it up at her barbecues. Bascially it was just fat on the bone, they loved it, i can still remember the fat dribbling down my uncles chin - oh god, i think im going to be sick

PrimulaVeris · 18/03/2008 16:45

School liver & bacon.

Closely followed by my mum's Sunday roast.

lucyellensmum · 18/03/2008 16:46

thats quite embarrasing actually MB, i have a biochemistry degree

chrissnow · 18/03/2008 16:46

Another vote for liver here - bleugh
Another 'speciality' of my moms was steak - all well and good but somehow she managed to cook it so that it was black/burnt/acrid on the outside and still fecking mooing on the outside. Just imagine blood and ash dripping to the edge of your plate. Hideous. Always served with jacket potatoes never fully cooked - just nuclear hot and rock hard!!

chrissnow · 18/03/2008 16:49

sorry it was mooing on the inside god I cannot type today.
I thought sweetbreads were um er you know testicles

bubblagirl · 18/03/2008 16:50

liver and bacon when we became brave and said we didnt like it we got pies instead

with liver and bacon gravy lol

girlfrommars · 18/03/2008 16:53

School roast mystery meat. It was grey and hard. If there was a bowl of mint sauce next to it, you knew it was lamb, otherwise it was beef. It tasted the same though, dry, fatty and yeuckkkk.

TsarChasm · 18/03/2008 16:54

Yes liver. Ugh ugh ugh!! I could never cook it now. Raw liver looks like placenta.

BernieBear · 18/03/2008 17:06

Brains Faggots - the name says it all - seriously would you? Why oh Why?

bubblagirl · 18/03/2008 17:09

oh god yes faggots and peas pudding also eegghhh

poshwellies · 18/03/2008 17:16

Chicken fricassee

chrissnow · 18/03/2008 17:19

my ex bf used to eat chicken fricassee at works canteen. His fave. Looked like cat sick. Didn't smell much better!!

betterhalf · 18/03/2008 17:21

liver and bacon casserole. Absolutely vile. And anything that accompanied brussel sprouts. I still shudder at the sight of those things!

Posey · 18/03/2008 17:27

Anything my Auntie Barbara cooked. Not that she was a bad cook, just she cooked stuff so wholly inappropriate for kids. My sister and I would sit there gagging (and we were good eaters, just found her stuff totally unpalatable!)

hifi · 18/03/2008 17:28

spam in batter, uuugh.

Belly pork (more fat than anything else) with tart apple sauce, boiled cabbage and dry potatoes - Mum's favourite!

pendulum · 18/03/2008 17:34

Mackerel boiled for hours (for that special kitchen smell) and served with vinegar. Went cold as you picked thousands of tiny bones out.

Mumcentreplus · 18/03/2008 17:53

My mum makes the only liver I eat...fried lighty floured with a lovely gravy...lol

But my worst school dinner was boiled egg curry!...it friggin stank to high heaven..and the eggs had been boiled for so long that they were grey inside (shudder)...I also don't eat red meat so anything meaty (yuk) Oh and quiche (another egg based delicacy..not )...my school loved giving us dayum quiche!

Least fave pudding was cold custard...(faints)...flacid old jiggly nastiness!!!

pedilia · 18/03/2008 17:56

Like many others here it has to be liver and bacon, absolutely rancid!
