You know the one where you got to the table and your heart sank into your boots because you were starving and had been looking forward to your dinner only to find........

Sweet and sour chicken made with a lurid sauce from a packet or jar - I despised it.

Greensleeves · 16/03/2008 18:58

tinned meatballs

I remember one particular occasion sitting down to dinner hungrily, asking what is was and being told "stew" - great - and then she took the lid off the tureen, this cloud of filthy stinking steam belched out and then all the little mud-grey disgusting meatballs bobbed to the top like little turds

I was so horrified, I burst into tears

Iota · 16/03/2008 18:59

I used to help my mother make brawn from boiled pig's heads and trotters.

It was yum

The bought stuff was nasty pink rubbish though

And we used to cook and press ox tongue for Xmas

motherinferior · 16/03/2008 18:59

Oh god, my mother's Roast Lunch. She is a really very good Indian cook, but oh god her ability to render roast meat absolute leather [shudder]

But really, virtually anything served up at school every day made my heart sink. We had the most spectacularly revolting meals, cooked in another school and shipped in, in aluminium bins. Far far worse than the stuff the Inferiorettes get - I shudder at the very memory of them, congealing on those cold thick plates.

Iota · 16/03/2008 19:00

mmmm I like liver and onions too with mash

saffy202 · 16/03/2008 19:00

Rice pudding - both at home and at school. Even now the smell makes me heave.

Oh God, I've just remembered something vile for Sunday afternoon tea

Tinned fruit salad with syrup (barf) which was eaten with Ideal Milk (barf) and bread and butter [barfola!]

Why with bread and butter?

And plead as I did she would never leave me off the syrup. Why did I have to have the syrup? I'm heaving just thinking about it.

Mind you , on a good week she used to do apple tart for Sunday Tea and that was astonishingly good.

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 16/03/2008 19:02

TONGUE

Iota · 16/03/2008 19:03

The only part of a pig that you can't eat is its squeak !!

motherinferior · 16/03/2008 19:03

I eat Posho Sausages from Posho Farms, Moondog

I am quite fond of liver, especially chicken livers, although my fellow inmates of the Inferiority Complex affect to despise it. DP gave me a long and pseudo-credible explanation about the hepatitis he caught back in Bangladesh, but I pointed out he eats - and buys - pate rather frequently so that one Won't Wash.

posieflump · 16/03/2008 19:04

my worst pudding was homemade rhubarb fool - it was so sour and stringy and we had to eat it all

hairycaterpillar · 16/03/2008 19:04

Shepherds pie bleurrgghh! Have never made it for my dc.

motherinferior · 16/03/2008 19:05

My mother's stepmother used to put avocados in fruit salad. (In Banglalore, where avocados are somewhat more prolific.)

(This may explain why as an adult I am embarrassed to admit I bloody loathe avocados.)

meridian · 16/03/2008 19:05

sprouts... hated them.. my grandmother used to boil the hell out of them then I was supposed to eat them.. never happend my mother would eat them off my plate so I wouldn't get into trouble.

and beet greens, once had them and it crunched... beet greens arent suppoed to crunch it was a bug I heaved... never ate them again...still gives me the creeps now it was a huge freeking beetle. bluerg

moondog · 16/03/2008 19:05
