Yeah, yeah, but do you buy mince in a can?

anorak · 11/03/2008 15:07

Well it's no different from the cheese you grate yourself, is it? Just a time-saver. I wouldn't want to buy pre-grated carrots, for example, as the vitamin content goes down after preparation. But what could be wrong with buying grated cheese?

SheherazadetheGoat · 11/03/2008 15:07

there is no excuse. it will be the frozen mash next.

expatinscotland · 11/03/2008 15:07

what hte hell section is it in, cod?

i want to see!

pedilia · 11/03/2008 15:07

Nowt wrong with that, although it does work out more expensive and we get through loads of cheese in our house so I buy the huge blocks.
DH buys ready grated though

Me too, but purely out of laziness.

Is it not the done thing?

I buy grated cheese. I also buy frozen diced onion and frozed sliced peppers. Why ?

  1. I'm a lazy fecker
  2. I'm a lazy fecker
and 3. I'm a lazy fecker
SmartArse · 11/03/2008 15:09

I HATE grating cheese.

Any cheese I've grated usually has bits of my fingers in it too.

AdamAnt · 11/03/2008 15:10

I don't care.

Can I kill you anyway? Then I'll dip you in (homemade) batter and stick you on a plate with (homemade) chips).

Carmenere · 11/03/2008 15:10

I don't but I don't think that it is a huge food sin either. It is just a waste of money but that is up to you.

farkin' 'ell

this from the woman who scorns mixed herbs

ROFL

expatinscotland · 11/03/2008 15:11

i grate carrots int eh food processor.

and i never peel tatties.

i just cook them in their skins.

Racers · 11/03/2008 15:12

I get blocks especially cos I use tonnes of it on toast, but DH gets grated and I must admit find it dead handy to have in. No tinned mince or frozen mash here yet though!

artichokes · 11/03/2008 15:13

I buy pre washed, pre cut lettuce.
Pre grated cheese
Pre peeled and chopped fresh mango
Pre made pastry

The list could go on and on

But now we have to tighten our belts to buy a new house and it turns out that having others do your washing, grating, peeling and chopping is expensive. I am horrified that I will soon have to do all these things.

ggglmpp · 11/03/2008 15:22

crappo french grated cheese costs the same as crappo french cheese in a block.

Fascinating fact.

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/03/2008 15:30

I buy pre-grated cheddar, but blocks of creamy lancashire and parmesan.

I used to work in the food hall of Littlewoods (when they used to have them) and did a lot of prep slicing meat and stuff before it went on to the deli. One of my jobs was to cut all the manky bits off the big dried up or mouldy blocks of cheese, and then grate what was left to be sold as grated cheese - bleeurgh.

ArmadilloDaMan · 11/03/2008 15:36

I buy prec-chopped veg to stick in microwave.
An often too tired to cook and then at least we get a reasonable meal.

Ds won't touch the stuff though -he can taste the difference.

He is a fussy little sod very sensitive to taste though - he can even tell diff types of carrots by taste alone. This is not a good thing.
