dc has his fair share of food fussiness but also surprises me with some things I didn't expect a 2 year old to like e.g.:

  • smoked salmon (a boy of expensive tastes!)
  • ground pepper added to food
  • mustard
  • raw yellow, red peppers
  • boring dark green lettuce not just crunchy stuff

.....so, what are the most surprising things your dc's like to eat?

biltong is foul. Exercise for the jaws only. Other weird SA thing was rusks in a packet for grown-ups. Like big bits of stale bread. Odd.

biltong is fabulous - especially with a few cold beers as is dried boerewors which is like a spicy sausage.
The rusks are called "Ouma's Rusks" and were a staple in all SA households

basalmic vinegar

Aha! That's what they are called coolmama. THankyou. I was beginning to wonder if they were a figment of my imagination, or that my memory was playing up. 'Twas many many years ago.

Maybe biltong is an aquired taste??

my 9 year old when we were having a roast dinner yesterday: "when can we have SPROUTS again, we haven't had any since last Christmas"

rusks - like stale bread?
dunk it in your coffee! it is just like biscuits.

tasja · 01/10/2007 11:07

Yes, I think biltong is just for the SA people. Others don't understand!
Why do you think they confiscate our biltong if we bring it over to the UK?

They want to have it all to themselves!
