Mumsnet Village Show - An Afternoon Tea Tray for One

So here we are again.

So far the rules are:

Tea tray for one

Can include anything you want suitable for a summer high tea (sandwiches, scones, cake, biscuits etc) with suitable cutlery and crockery and the like. (Silver service if you are terribly posh)

Five quid budget (on top of what you already have in your larder).

SlightlyMadScientist is the judge (heaven help us...is she properly qualified???)

Oh and all entries will be anonymous this time (A, B, C etc).

Time limit is 9pm next sunday so we can be judged before bed time.

The rules will obviously be bent or completely ignored but so long as its tea ish then anything goes.

lol tigi, just nab a few bits off your groaning tables, stick it on a tray, plonk a cup of tea next to it and voila, an afternoon tea tray for one.

Take a piccie,

upload before 9pm,

win a rosette.maybe.

Who is doing the rosettes btw. I would offer to do certificates (I can't do fancy craft...please see my cupcakes). But I am currently spelling impaired. And the end of the week will be bonkers with fete tasks.
(I already have to buy WHSmith vouchers & 3 bottles of rum of different sizes, collect/cut up stuff to be stuck on pirates hats, get dd's fancy dress sorted, make a treasure chest).

Is anyone makeing rosettes? Could you decide how many categories you would like?

I am currently thinking (TBC)
Best composition
Best presentation
Kids entry

Welcome to suggestions, and need to know how many rosettes the make is prepared/capable of making

SlightlyMadShorthair · 26/06/2007 20:37

Oh and if anyone would like to consult with me further tonight I shall be judging the surreal art over in teh iSketch marquee...

DontAskMeToJudgeCupCakeComps · 26/06/2007 20:40

Perhaps that could be another comp? best cricketeres teas?
The benefit of doing teas is that if you hang around long enough you get to see the men get changed when they come in from batting. The views are tremendous from my washing up bowl! I'd advise all of you to volunteer for your local team! Do your bit I say!

ChippyMinton · 26/06/2007 20:44

Hi all. I am only just recovering from the cupcake competition, having baked 3 dozen yesterday, smothered in bought sweeties which were the hot sellers at the school fete today. 5-11yos are obviously my target market.

So, this is fab, DH is away all weekend so i can compete to my little hearts content

DontAskMeToJudgeCupCakeComps · 26/06/2007 20:49

I can't tell my DH what I am up to, he will think I'm (more) crackers!
This is my underground secret life! I asked DS age 12 to help me judge the cup cakes out of despair, saying 'can you just have a look at these pictures, but don't ask why!' He looked at me oddly!

EntryB · 26/06/2007 21:18

Slubberdegullion · 26/06/2007 21:21

There was me, just for a minute wondering what the bloody hell a 'deet' was. I was thinking how does she know I get bitten terribly, then I realised. Will do.

Slubberdegullion · 27/06/2007 08:45

Sorry LL, I assumed the vodka was yours as you are queen of personal photo shoot link things (I cannot tell you how many times I have read the instructions for putting a photo on my profile only to have given up biwildred and flustered).

Thinking about it maybe a piccie of french congnac on your tray (isn't that the equivalent of rum) to capture the nautical and foreign aspects of yourself, would have been more indicative.

Well if it wasn't you, who was it. Cod?

i'n got 5 squid burning a hole in me pocket. not sure when i'll get out to the shops though. and i don't have a fancy dan teapot. will a brown betty do?

Slubberdegullion · 27/06/2007 08:57

Anything tea telated is fine. Cup & saucer, strainer etc etc.

Not sure how posh SMS is .....so extra credits could be awarded for a real tea pot rather that something thet you've borrowed from the back of your grannies 'special' crockery cupboard.
