Who wants to enter here please. This will be fab. Now we have to find some judges. I think we should put thread in chat and ask someone to judge based on their credentials Obviously they will be only looking at a pic not tasting. We need rules as well??? Good idea or not.

UCM · 17/06/2007 18:49

Actually I am terribly surprised that some of you have a cake slice thingys. They really set off the presentation.

DH gobbles my cakes so bleeding fast that we don't need one really.

I am thinking for next year..............

I have a thing for cakestands... a little bit of an obsession

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 18:59

UCM, the rosette is completely fabulous.

Oh Dear Lord I so want to win now.

MommyUpNorth · 17/06/2007 19:02

UCM the rosette is fantastic!

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 19:03

MrsTweedy's looks good. Very good.

(damnation).

UCM, any chance you could russle up a yellow and blue rosette for 2nd and 3rd placings???

MrsTweedy · 17/06/2007 19:11

My cake is here

Do I get extra points for the jam being homemade with strawberries from my allotment?

UCM · 17/06/2007 19:12

Frankly no. I made several and didn't think they looked good enough. Dh was complaining most vociferiously that I was spending 'his' day glueing & sticking.

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 19:13

No, absolutely not MrsTweedy. I wouldn't even mention it again.

UCM · 17/06/2007 19:14

I spose I could make a VSC princess and then a lady in waiting one though

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 19:15

, yes please UCM!

janemw · 17/06/2007 19:22

Oh! There are soo many good cakes!! I have made a few more today, for Father's Day (well that's what I told everyone else!!) I am uploading the pics as I type! One is in English and the other in Welsh, both say Happy Father's Day, in case you can't read the English one either! Good luck to you all, I think it's been a really good comp, I've enjoyed every minute and learnt lots! By the way UCM your Rosette is fab.....would love to win!!! (nudge nidge wink wink!!!!)

UCM · 17/06/2007 19:26

Hun, sadly I am not the judge. Thank goodness as they all look pretty fab to me. It's the effort and the taking part which is important (for me anyway) but I do have a fave TBH>

OP posts:
Bibis · 17/06/2007 19:31

The cakes all look amazing, I wish I could cook like you lot . In a completely non patronising way well done

Mrs Tweedy are those home grown sweetpeas? How have you managed to get them to flower so early?

janemw · 17/06/2007 19:35

Oh I wasn't trying to influence the judge's in any way! I wouldn't stand a chance anyway, there's lots of competition! Just to show my honesty, the cakes I have just uploaded are miniature VSC's about 5" in diameter!

MrsTweedy · 17/06/2007 19:40

They are home-grown sweet peas (I thought I'd better not mention that as Slubberdegullion was cross about me mentioning the homemade jam with strawberries from my allotment - oops I did it again!). We're very sheltered here in the south-east and they're grown against a sunny fence.

kickassangel · 17/06/2007 19:54

am currently about to upgrade pics of 2nd attempt (3rd if you count the one made by the cat!)
Ah, but mrs tweedy, it should be raspberry jam & castor sugar, and I beleive the WI said you shouldn't overdo the jam. very yummyi'm sure, but remember the vsc was at its height during post-war austerity. yours is bordring on the voluptuous.
my pics on my profile btw

Pennies · 17/06/2007 19:58

This is all too depressing for me to read. Am going to ritually burn my Constance Spry and will pledge henceforth to only by M&S cakes. I don't stand a chance against you lot in any future cake comps.

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 20:12

MrsTweedy I am onto you.

You just name changed didn't you, to Bibis, and asked 'oh are those "home grown" sweet peas?

And then quick name change back

'Oh yes, grown on the same allotment as my strawberries from which my jam cometh, oh and oopsy just mentioned that again'

I know your game Mrs.
