Who wants to enter here please. This will be fab. Now we have to find some judges. I think we should put thread in chat and ask someone to judge based on their credentials Obviously they will be only looking at a pic not tasting. We need rules as well??? Good idea or not.

my apologies for posting & running lst night - dh wanted to spend some time together (how odd)
mark 2 has been made & pictured - in the garden with roses, but i can't get pics on comp without dh's password & he's out sailing. i will sort this out later.

however - be warned - mark 2 has no zittage, no sign of grid from coolinmg rack, a reserved amount of jam & sugar coating and it turned out beautifully! i am moderately plaesed. i din't cut a slice - chopped it in half as it is now in the freezer so that i don't just scoff the lot!

Pennies · 17/06/2007 14:17

Right. I've done mine.

Method
Lovingly followed Constance Spry - Grand Dame of English cuisine. Used organic everything including eggs and jam (plum with brandy) bought from local orchard. Listened to Eastenders (hoping for vibes from The Queen Vic) and wore a Sunday Times Wine Club (freebie) apron. Didn't sing.

Result This Conclusion
I can quite honestly say this is the worst cake I have ever baked. It was all going well until I tried to take one out of the oven and managed to stick my oven glove in it. Never mind, thought I - that one can go on the bottom, no-one will ever know. However, the Fates consired against me and I watched, helpless and aghast as they both sank like the Titanic. Still optimistic that some salvage operation could be mounted I ploughed on with the creation. All was going swimmingly until, mid-transfer, the top half split almost entirely in two - a gaping crevasse from the bottom of which winked rich, ruby red jam. In a last ditch attempt to create a confection that might even scrape a placing I threw about 4 tonnes of icing sugar onto it to try and hide the multitude of sins, but to no avail.

So I hereby submit my attempt. I hang my head in shame for I feel I have lowered the collective standard considerably.

May the best mum win.

Pennies, I'm sorry, but your cake...PMSL.

I'm sure it tastes very very nice though, esp the jam, which although not regulation sounds considerably more delicious than my M&S raspberry.

There could be a sub catagory for most amusing cake (after all that's in keeping with village shows, in mine there is a 'most amusing vegetable').

CuttingCod · 17/06/2007 14:46

UCM · 17/06/2007 14:49

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 15:24

What...a photographic cheat, or an overindulgence in raising agent cheat?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 17/06/2007 15:25

it's a LDC!! so very cheating!

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 15:29

I am without words.

nope I have a few.
'Get your fabulously risen and very tasty looking LDC outta here'. This is for VSC's only. Bugger orf'

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 15:30

re-looking at the photos it's so obvious it's an LDC. How could I have been so blind.

UCM · 17/06/2007 16:38

UCM · 17/06/2007 16:43

Whats an LDC

OP posts:
Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 17:03

UCM, you need to up your dosage of MN clever pills.

LDC is obviously Lemon Drizzle Cake (9 ot of 10 MNers when asked preferred LDC to any other type of cake).

and white raspberries....lol.

MrsFish · 17/06/2007 17:10

I wish I had seen this sooner as I love baking, just don't have the ingredients available to do it now

Slubberdegullion - your cake and setting looks fab

Will keep an eye out in case there is another comp I can enter

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 17:13

Mrs Fish, you mean to tell us that you don't have flour (self raising), butter, eggs, sugar and some variety of jam in your pantry.

shame on you.

I bet your local garage has them, if you want in, go shopping NOW.

MrsFish · 17/06/2007 17:23

I have everything apart from enough butter DH should be home soon, I may have to pop out... I'll see how it goes

MrsFish · 17/06/2007 17:26

I won't be able to get a good picture though as the weather is miserable here, and I don't have a doily ;) I may just have to wait till the next comp

MommyUpNorth · 17/06/2007 17:29

Ok, I'm in, and I've added my pics to the site. I'll return after we've eaten some with the comments on taste.

Slubberdegullion · 17/06/2007 17:32

MrsFish....excuses excses.

Display indoors, make your own doily. Come on push the boat out, Make Cake. This may (for all we know) be the first and last MN cake comp.

Do you want to be part of the action or not????????

MrsFish · 17/06/2007 17:37

I will try my best
