I've actually stopped caring about food

Twiglett · 26/04/2007 16:25

I really have

I'm not sure I ever cared particularly that much

but then that's from a background of me enjoying cooking so have quite a good and varied diet of fresh food and lots of fruit and vegbut honestly couldn't tell you last time I read a label

it just seems so nonsensical to worry about it

and I'm quite happy for them to have biscuits or crisps or sweets too or a pizza from Iceland (woodburned) or ice-creams like Fab (which I'm sure were invented by the antithesis of MN foodies)

anybody care to join me in this dim and dingy corner of Mumsnet where most other posters believe we're going straight to hell?

Hmm, I buy mostly organic and read the labels on everything and I didn't find the thread offensive tbh.

There are plenty of other offensive threads around - breast and bottle ones are bloody hideous for a start off.

Oblomov · 26/04/2007 18:53

Greeny , upon re-reading the thread, I think that is the wrong impression. Most of us here are saying we eat healthily, and have bad / treats/ rubbish / I don't know what to call it, aswell.

I am a diabetic And have eaten high fibre low fat diet for 33 of my 34 years.

But I have been known to eat nothing but crisps, diet coke and chociolate, in a day.

I think this thread is actually quite middle of the road.

DumbledoresGirl · 26/04/2007 18:53

Ladies!

Where?

Porcupine · 26/04/2007 18:54

norwich

oi you lot aaaarside wiht that

Heathcliffscathy · 26/04/2007 18:54

like i said if it had read exactly as is, but without reference to people that care too much (which is exactly what the implication is) then it wouldn't have got this way.

bundle · 26/04/2007 18:54

I agree you can be both hardline on organic vegetable sauces for pasta and let them eat FABs

Heathcliffscathy · 26/04/2007 18:55

of course you can bundle....no one is saying otherwise

Gobbledigook · 26/04/2007 18:55

D'you know, this site gets more and more ridiculous by the day. Have people nowt else to worry about?

Porcupine · 26/04/2007 18:56

ds3 had a "bob leponge " lolly today

he chose that OVER fabs

SmileysPeoples · 26/04/2007 18:57

I've never seen a 'I'm not going to obsess about food' thread on MN. Only the other sort.
(maybe I'm not here enough)

But just to say to the OP. I've always been in this camp.

Rule in our house is just 'you can't only eat crap'. As long as you've had sometjing heakthly(ish) you can have the crap.

So usually fruit for pud followed by....fab ice lollies tonight!!
Easter egg for past few weeks.

I knwo I'll get jumped on for this (been here before) but my attitude is driven by the thought 'I'm so bloody lucky that we have food in abundace and their diet is half healthly I find it too selconciously indulgent and naval gazing to obsess about it.'

Really, take an interst, but more than that verges on selfindulgemnce imo.

bundle · 26/04/2007 18:57
Hmm
Porcupine · 26/04/2007 18:58

please lets not start any self justification
we all do the best we cna most of the time

just some of us do ti all of the time

Twiglett · 26/04/2007 18:58

I am sick to death of people being unable to take the slightest amount of criticism (either real or inferred) and using the 'how very dare you' card

I am sick to death of being pushed aside into a realm where unless I am at the extreme of opinions my values are somewhat inferior to those who hold a higher standard .. I don't want to be educated you know, I consider myself fairly well educated and don't wish to be patronised

this thread wasn't meant like this .. it was a light-hearted ramble in a moment of quiet

way to turn it into a nasty argument though

gah!

Porcupine · 26/04/2007 18:59

food
i even started a p and t parkign one to detract

Aloha · 26/04/2007 18:59

Pain au chocolate...swoon.

Greensleeves · 26/04/2007 19:00

Nobody's commenting on your level of education or your intelligence FGS. Just don't deliberatly insult and needle people and then throw your toys out of the pram when they don't like it.

Here's a bottle of organic fair trade ketchup for the chip on your shoulder.

SmileysPeoples · 26/04/2007 19:00

Shgould add we aer veggie (well I am kids fighting against it) do quite a bit of organic...
hang on why am I telling you this?? no one gives a shit what i eat.

Ah fuck off the lot of you

motherinferior · 26/04/2007 19:00

I am inferior and proud of it

DumbledoresGirl · 26/04/2007 19:00

What gets me is when people admit they eat "crap" and then name the specific product and I am left feeling like because it has never occured to me that that food is crap.

For example, fruit shoots ( I know better now but still let my children have them when we are out) Herta frankfurters and Fab lollies. FGS, what is not OK about the latter two?

collision · 26/04/2007 19:01

Everything in moderation I say!

Ds1 has had no fruit today cos he didnt feel like it but on another day can eat tons of the stuff.

He had a rocket icelolly for pudding tonight but it is no big deal.

I am with Twiglett and hate the high moral ground that some take.

singersgirl · 26/04/2007 19:01

Gosh. I knew there was a reason I didn't post on contentious threads...

Gobbledigook · 26/04/2007 19:02

DG - don't know about Herta frankfurters but I bought some tinned hotdog sausages once, read the label afterwards (doh!) and nearly had a heart attack at the ingredients. It was really unpleasant!

jomist · 26/04/2007 19:02

Live and let live for goodness sake! Eat what you want and don't feel the need to justify it to anyone.

Oblomov · 26/04/2007 19:03

I don't want to be converted. I am 100% happy with my opinions/ decisions on the this issue.

Porcupine · 26/04/2007 19:03

Mn is terribel about food in a way I NEVER experience in rl

ever ever
