I just made a really quick meal which my children loved! Share your after-work quick tea successes!

After work quick tea, wolfed down by the DC!

Cooked some pasta
Chopped up a couple of tomatoes and a ball of mozzarella
Fried up a box of lardons
Mixed the pasta, mozzarella, toms and lardons together. Added a few black olives, a couple of abel spoons of philly and a blob of pesto
Stuk it in a dish
Cover in grated cheddar
Grilled it

I thought I'd made enough for DH's tea too, but there's hardly any left. This never happens! They both ate it all up, even DS who "doesn't like tomatoes".

I called it "Pizza Pasta" because its all the stuff you'd usually get on a pizza, but in pasta.

THe omloaf, just confirm, that's in a toastie sandwicher maker, not a toaster?

maddiemookins16mum · 22/02/2017 13:58

Boil pasta twists or bows, add frozen sweetcorn and petit pois a few minutes before the end. Drain.
Mix a tub of philly cheese (the herb one) with some milk, add a good grind of pepper to taste, stir into pasta. Now here is the best bit, add some chopped up frankfurter sausage bits or chopped "end bits' of ham from the deli counter and heat through. Serve in a bowl with just a fork in front of the telly. We had this almost weekly for ages when DD had swimming and we never got home unti 7pm. It took about 12 mins to prep and cook.

Ready made pastry case; spread with a little mustard; bung in tuna mixed with seasoning and a bit of mayo; cheddar grated on top - into oven - bingo! Serve with a bit of salad.

octopusrus · 22/02/2017 14:30

Tuna + Pesto + Cooked Pasta!

Can add peas/sweetcorn/broccoli/pine nuts. Meal in under 10 mins!

nursy1 · 22/02/2017 14:49

Pasta with marmite, butter and torn up lettuce. ( old fashioned English butterball lettuce). Strangely addictive!!

whojamaflip · 22/02/2017 14:56

Quick chicken and leek pie - cook chopped leeks in butter um il soft, bung in chicken chopped into bite size pieces, when cooked put in baking dish, stir in tin condensed chicken soup, add frozen peas and top with ready rolled puff pastry, brush with beaten egg and bung in the oven until pastry is raisen and golden. Serve with mash if wanted.

Cook pasta, drain and stir in butter marmite and tomato purée, serve with salad - sounds strange but really works!

CiderwithBuda · 22/02/2017 14:59

@yeOldeTrout - I have to count ketchup as a vegetable!

Llamacorn · 22/02/2017 15:12

These all sound yummy but I have the fussiest kids in the world!
The only meal which all 3 will eat is stovies, otherwise it's different meals every night 🙄

Louloujay · 22/02/2017 15:38

Loving these ideas! I tend to batch cook everything in order to not spend too much time cooking but some of these "fresher" ideas would easily take less time.

HappyFlappy · 22/02/2017 15:57

Not place marking at all - just . . . er . . . marking my place . . .

HappyFlappy · 22/02/2017 15:59

Sorry, whojamaflip, but I'm terrified wary of Marmite.

whojamaflip · 22/02/2017 16:09

Happy - Worcestershire sauce works just as well!

mrsmortis · 22/02/2017 16:14

I do a really quick stir fry with oyster sauce that the kids love.

Chop up your meat (doesn't matter what it is as long as it'll take flash frying, we like chicken thighs but I've done beef, pork or duck too). Add it to a bowl with a couple of tablespoons of oyster sauce, the same of light soy and half a teaspoon of sugar. Leave while you prep the rest.

Shred some green leaf veg. In the winter we tend to use cabbage but in the summer it's whatever greens come out of the garden (chard, bok choi, etc). I do significantly more greens than meat. But that's the way we like it.

Put the wok on a high heat with a bit of oil. Stir fry the meat. When it's cooked take it out of the pan and add the cabbage. Add a touch of water so it starts to steam. Then a splash of oyster sauce. When its done to your liking put the meat back in and combine.

Serve with microwave rice (my favourite is the veetee jasmine rice).

I can have it on the table in well under 15 mins. And it gets devoured.

Omelettes made in the toastie machine

Please let me in on this idea. I want to try it as it sounds fabulous!

Some great ideas on here. I have saved the page so I can try them.

Sheet of ready made puff pastry, put it on a tray.
Chop a load of veg (stuff like tomatoes/mushrooms/courgettes/whatever's in the fridge) and stir in a load of pesto.
Put veg on pastry, leaving a space around the edge.
Bake.

Oh and another dish we named cowboy beans. Take a tin of baked beans a small frying pan, put oil in, add curry powder stir in and gently fry for a minute then chuck in the baked beans, keep stirring until most of the tomato liquid has gone. It can look a bit mushy but the children love it.

😮 With my irritable bowel, I would explode into pieces if I are that. They'd be finding bits of me for weeks! 😦

AprilLudgateDwyer · 22/02/2017 16:27

Cous cous packet with a tin of tuna in sunflower oil mixed in. Ds LOVES it and always pinches it off my plate when he's eaten his. It's very filling!

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 22/02/2017 16:29

Tuna pie

Tin tuna
Tin condensed mushroom soup
Mix together in a small casserole dish and top with ready made mash
Bake in oven till potato golden brown on top

Serves one two
Real comfort food and couldn't be quicker.

RumbleMum · 22/02/2017 16:33

These sound yummy. I'm going to try the OP's recipe.

My two big inventions were macaroni + lots of pesto to hide frozen spinach then lots of parmesan on top.

Also straight-to-wok udon noodles with frozen shelled edamame, flaked salmon and a good dollop of teryaki sauce.

CatsBatsEars · 22/02/2017 16:34

Will be trying the 4,2,1 and frigate for sure Smile

MadgeMak · 22/02/2017 16:34

Placemarking. Not that my two will eat anything other than pizza (marguerita only, no yucky veg added please) and chicken nugget or fish fingers and chips. I'm at the end of my tether with it TBH.

CatsBatsEars · 22/02/2017 16:36

Frigate wtf! Frittata

ChinchillaFur · 22/02/2017 16:42

Mini pizza thins

Take a sandwich thin, open, spread with tomato puree, chopped onions, sweetcorn, peppers, ham etc. Sprinkle mixed herbs and grated cheese. 7 mins in oven. Demolished in minutes!

LionEggMeg · 22/02/2017 17:06

I just served Omloaf with ham and it was gobbled up and described as "epic."
