Just done W1R1 of the proper couch 2 5k app so feeling pleased with myself. Rejuvenating with porridge with sliced banana, blueberries and chopped almonds.

Yesterday's lunch was a smoked salmon omelette which I found surprisingly yummy! Maybe there's hope for me and eggs after all...

holmessweetholmes · 19/05/2015 10:36

Yay - well done on the running, Bramshott!

stilllearnin · 19/05/2015 11:27

Bramshott! Fantastic on the c25k - best thing I've done recently. The thread on here is good too.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/05/2015 12:10

Well done GrinThanks

Food today - yoghurt and banana and boiled egg, hummus with celery, carrots and cucumber and apple then for dinner mashed potato peas and another egg as I didn't want a sausage like Dh and ds hadGrin

I managed to resist yummy choc biscuits that's my friend brought round , yay me. I just reminded myself of all the self lathing I'd feel if I ate one as it would me me feel crap.

Walked nearly 2 miles this evening with a friend, furtherest walk I've managed since my accident , sooooooo pleased Smile

Well done on your walk, Dame. And on resisting the chocolate biscuits. I have such rubbish willpower about that sort of thing. I ran 16k today and it nearly bloody killed me. Feeling wiped out and my hips are aching.

Bramshott · 21/05/2015 14:35

Had a real "bung it all in and hope for the best" soup success yesterday! I had butternut squash and cabbage, so popped it in the pressure cooker with chicken stock, a little dried chilli, and some paprika. Turned out lovely. One benefit of the rubbish weather is that it's still okay to have soup!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/05/2015 15:11

16k????Shock Wow! Fantastic Grin

Food today - porridge and some melon, soda bread and tomato and an apple. Food tonight will be cod with sweet potato chips and huge beetroot leaves and avocado salad.

Tried overnight oats last night/this morning - they were revelatory! There was a recipe in the guardian last Sat. Think I might pack some for the first morning of camping - we are off next Mon-Wed - would at least get me off to a healthy and nutritious start even if its downhill from there!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/05/2015 17:18

Over night oats?

I'm still doing ok except for weird heartburn, indigestion, not sure what that's about. Just taken some cider vinegar for it.

Food today -

Porridge
2 boiled eggs , slice of soda bread and a pear
Going out for Indian tonight and will have something dry like Tikka with salad.

Walking was an effort tonight , so just a short one and will go further tomorrow.

Dame - its a bit like cold porridge, only much nicer than it sounds! this was the recipe I used, although I think next time I'd add some nuts too.

holmessweetholmes · 22/05/2015 22:01

Dame - I know, 16k! It did nearly kill me though.

stilllearnin · 22/05/2015 23:06

Dame you are doing really well to be walking regularly. Even if it's hard it's best to do a little bit than none at all ... Mentally that's quite tricky.

I'm suffering depression wise at the moment. Really peed off with it too. I can still get out of bed and I did some cleaning today. But I cannot enjoy anything and just being ok is so much effort. I come across quite jolly but 5 mins into a conversation I feel like I've run a marathon. Which reminds me holmes have you run since the near fatal 16k? You can so do this HM!

holmessweetholmes · 23/05/2015 07:34

I'm doing Parkrun this morning, still! Sorry you are feeling so down Thanks.

Bramshott · 24/05/2015 20:32

Hope Parkrun was good holmes. I got new trainers on Sat, so I have to stick with the running now!! Week 2 of couch to 5k this week, although my running will be limited as its half term and we're also away for a few days.

We are off camping tomorrow for 3 days and I am feeling very pleased with myself as I have prepared:
12 wheat free banana & maple muffins
a large jar of overnight oats
a large quinoa salad with pine nuts, beans and squash
a potato salad
sweetcorn halved and wrapped in foil ready for barbecuing
Also bought sweet potato falafels and olives for tomorrow's picnic lunch

Determined that it won't all be about the sausage, bacon, burger meat-fest we will cook on the barbecue....

Sorry you are feeling down still. Hope you are on the up soon.

shortaris1 · 25/05/2015 20:01

Sorry to hear you feel rotten Still. It's so tough.

Dame, or anyone who eats avocados, what do you do with them?! Do you put anything with them? I've never eaten one!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 25/05/2015 22:13

Still- sorry you're having a rough time, I'm a bit borderline atm, very anxious and teary, think it's menopause related. I understand how you feel Thanks

Wrt avocados - I just tend to mash them up on a crisp bead and top with sliced tomatoes, or chop them and put them in salad. In sandwiches they are gorgeous instead of butter and one of my favourites is sliced with tomatoes and torn up fresh basil and a drizzle of olive oil.

Bram- well done for preparing ahead, have a good timeSmile

Oh and I walked 1.5 miles yesterday and was up at the allotment again this morning, this time last year I wouldn't have been able to manage either of those things let alone 2 days running so my mobility is really improving. I'm thinking of starting Pilates, anyone have any experience?

OP posts:
holmessweetholmes · 26/05/2015 07:24

Parkrun was ghastly! I tried doing it on an empty stomach for the first time - big mistake. I could barely get round. Not doing that again!

We have visitors staying for 3 nights, so lots of food and Wine. Their kids have been up and running around since 5 this morning Shock. I'm sure they woke everyone, but no adults are up except me. I am sooo tired, but have cheered myself up with a lovely bowl of overnight oats with apple, cinnamon and maple syrup.

holmessweetholmes · 26/05/2015 07:27

Bramshott - way to go on the camping prep! We haven't been camping yet this year and are looking forward to finding some nice local - ish sites now that we live just on the edge of the Lake District. Good idea to go armed with lovely healthy stuff - my good intentions often fall by the wayside when camping!

sleepwhenidie · 26/05/2015 07:53

Holmes your breakfast sounds delicious, cooked apple or raw?

Dame you are doing brilliantly, gardening is hard physical work (has the added advantage of being good for the soul too Wink). I think Pilates sounds like a great plan, maybe also try a couple of different yoga classes too and see which you prefer?

sleepwhenidie · 26/05/2015 07:57

Bramshott I'm impressed with the camping food prep!

Short along with Dame's suggestions, avocados are also good with fish, especially prawns, smoked salmon, crab, tuna mayo (tuna, some chopped celery, a little curry powder and mayo with half an avo makes a fab quick lunch). Lots of people love them with egg, also good with chicken or bacon!

sleepwhenidie · 26/05/2015 07:59

Oh and I like to sprinkle chilli flakes and lemon juice on avocado on toast. Extra Eating Better points for a few baby spinach leaves underneath Smile

shortaris1 · 26/05/2015 19:54

Thanks for that. Lovely ideas. I can't believe I've never eaten one!
