Sorry should explain the dentist Is in another town and waitrose is next door.

Also I meant to sound a bit more sympathetic Holmes. Hope you're ok.

holmessweetholmes · 06/06/2015 07:45

Thanks Still. At least I know I've made the right decision - HM is tomorrow and I'm still feeling pretty crappy. Only a cold, but a lingering one.

Neeko · 06/06/2015 08:30

Still- sorry to hear you are still feeling so low. Are you managing to get out in the fresh air every day? (Know that won't "cure" anything but it could help a tiny bit).

Holmes- sounds like you made the right decision. Can you do something nice instead so you're not thinking about it all day?

On the food front I am still doing well with portion control and being led by my hunger but old habit are starting to slip in where food choices are concerned. I'm going to make a big ego to up the fruit and vegetables this weekend as I know it's simply laziness!

Neeko · 06/06/2015 08:38

Dame- what is roe on toast? Slow cooker whole chicken is a favourite here and I love Jamie's chicken and spinach cannelloni with the leftovers.

Brahmshott- I've never had venison. What's it like?

Apologies for the double post. It's because I can't scroll back on my phone.

Roes on toast ! Food of the Gods, I remember eating it as a child , you could feed a family of 5 for about £2.50Grin

I love venison! Very similar to beef but a bit leaner, and to my mind a bit milder tasting.

stilllearnin · 07/06/2015 07:40

Hi Neeko, I'm outside a lot because festival season is in full swing. But that means alcohol (not loads but across several days), little sleep, stress in getting stuff arranged, little or no exercise, pressure at work in between. Then I feel guilty for feeling miserable as it is a good life and supposed to be fun - and when ds is an adult I wont get all these free tickets as he'll be able to do it on his own. Plus he is doing well really and I should be enjoying this while it lasts. Actually that's not a bad list of things I need to tackle to lift my mood. I can start with cutting out or down the alcohol - I don't need it to have a good time. I know if I can exercise it is as good if not better than anti-depressants - in fact I have just read that on the nhs website.

Anyway back to the thread! I am looking for ways to cut down on cheese. We have way too much but as veggies its quite hard when it comes to packed lunches etc. That will be my focus over the next two weeks.

Also need to report Kallo rice cakes (like snack a jacks but so much nicer) in home bargains 10p a pack!! Along with Nairn oatcakes 89p. I shall be stocking up later today!

Neeko · 07/06/2015 11:32

Still. It sounds to me like you are doing pretty well and maybe need to be a little less hard on yourself?! I think we are all our own worst critics.
Not sure I can help much on the cheese front but what about egg, humous, avocado, sandwich pickle, sundried tomato paste or chutneys to vary the sandwiches? My veggie colleague quite often brings flavoured couscous or cold pasta for lunch if that is an option.

Failed miserably on the extra veg yesterday. Will try harder today Confused

stilllearnin · 07/06/2015 12:15

I know - its important to be kind to yourself and others. I recently congratulated myself on winning dd's school appeal. Its a big deal for me to stop and say 'I did that'. Must try harder Neeko Grin

Neeko · 07/06/2015 17:51

Well done, Still GrinThanks

Bramshott · 08/06/2015 10:21

Sorry you are still feeling low Still. Excercise really is marvellous (as you already know!). When I had a particularly bad patch of anxiety recently I tried everything - mindfulness CDs, healthy eating, giving up alcohol and coffee.... But I think the thing which has really helped is taking up running. Partly because of fitness, but also because it helps me to trust my body more if that makes any sense. Hope you are managing to steer an upwards path through festival season...

Dame - also sorry to hear about your reaction to the turmeric tablets. Sounds scary! Glad that you've been able to get it all back under control. I was on omprazole tablets for stomach acid for a couple of years, and now strongly believe that in the end they were making me worse rather than better, so the natural way does seem like the way to go.

stilllearnin · 08/06/2015 11:31

And with that I am lacing my trainers! Grin (round a big block - so about 2.5 mikes perhaps but it's the act of getting out there). Also 2 week booze ban...until my birthday (solstice child!!)

Bramshott · 08/06/2015 11:37

Yay still - go for it!!

Neeko · 08/06/2015 12:14

Hope the run went well, Still. Well done on getting out there.

stilllearnin · 08/06/2015 12:48

A shady path and a Swan on the wing overhead. I took it easy Wink

Swerved the cheese and having hummus and spinach in a wrap for lunch.

stilllearnin · 08/06/2015 12:51

Oh I had food shopping delivered by morrisons yesterday. Much better picking of veg than I feared but oh the packaging! Appreciate the thought but bubble wrapped bananas? And my peppers came with a little spongy net round. Perhaps they all do it but whip it off in the van. Broccoli 17p and it was a good head too.

Giraffodil · 11/06/2015 17:44

Hello all, I'd like to join again! I've namechanged since posting sporadically on the very first thread over a year ago. I went paleo (with dairy) to lose weight as I was ttc. Well it worked, I lost 3 stone and I'm sat snuggling a very cute 11 week old Grin

The trouble is I had an awful pregnancy, went straight back to complete and utter junk and I've gained it all back (plus a bit more)

I've been eating better for a week now that the insane hunger that breastfeeding has brought on has subsided and I'm already -4lb! I feel so much better already too. Glad to see this thread still going.

Bramshott · 11/06/2015 22:25

Welcome back Giraffodil and congratulations on the new baby!

stilllearnin · 12/06/2015 19:38

Giraffodil!! Hooray!! What a great story. It is my birthday next weekend (yes on the solstice) and as usual I'm feeling restless!

Bramshott · 15/06/2015 11:33

Whizzing by to share a really good recipe I found last week for gluten free sugar free gingerbread here. It's seriously delicious! I added a few sultanas and raisins as I was putting it into the tin, which gives it a bit of an interesting texture.

stilllearnin · 15/06/2015 12:10

Just whizzing by to say thanks for that! I will test it this week I think. Anyone got any decent tried and tested vegan cake recipes? It's my birthday coming up and vegan friends coming to stay

I have decided that the last 6 or 7 months have been a bit rough on me. So I am treating myself with extra nice and easy food. Massive green salads with purple sprouting broccoli are featuring heavily!

stilllearnin · 15/06/2015 15:14

Oh...the booze ban hasn't happened. Although it's slightly reduced!

Bramshott · 17/06/2015 09:25

Happy Birthday for the weekend still! A solstice birthday - how lovely!

Sorry - I don't have any vegan cake recipes....

Giraffodil · 17/06/2015 20:47

Down another 4lb this week Grin

Giraffodil · 17/06/2015 20:49

Oops posted too soon! Hope you have a lovely birthday still.
