I've made a couple recently that I want to show off to people... We could all go 'ooooh' at each other's efforts!

A surprise US Independence day cake for some American expat friends of mine.

The hidden flag is fantastic!

Moose - damn. That's the justification. I could have done football cakes for the village fete where it is now apparently assumed that I will run the cake stall again..

Oh well. Too late. I will have to think of something else for cake stall (did cake pops year before last, ice cream cone cakes last year).

Ooooh! These are amazing!!! ...I have NC'd as these will out me to anyone who knows me.

I made these for a friend's surprise babyshower. They're my own invention imitating a fondant fancy, so baby's body is lemon buttercream on a vanilla sponge and the blanket etc are fondant!

Coincidentally, a year and 2 weeks later, this is the bump's first birthday cake. I NEVER offer to make cakes for people because it's a massive responsibility and I'm a massive fool but I was asked and I think got lucky!

I had never heard of the book "Barry the fish with fingers" before making the cake but here he is, in all his fondant glory!!!

It's Doc McStuffins this year - so I need to start on the Sugarpaste Characters - it took many evenings to get the colours and characters right for DD's Peppa Pig cake!

Here's one I made earlier (A lot earlier. About 20y ago! )

It was for a bus-fanatic's birthday. A double-decker gingerbread bus, with sugar windows, and both levels were stuffed with sweets.

And these are just out of the oven.

Hammentaschen: little poppy seed pies in rose-water and almond pastry.

And now I'm MNing instead of doing the dishes. Work avoidance? Moi?

MikeLitoris · 18/03/2014 22:34

Which decorating class do you go to Nanny?

nannycook · 18/03/2014 22:37

Hi Mike, its a community college in Blackwood, on mon night, all free, just went really to learn how to wire flowers, and stayed.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/03/2014 22:40

Mike - remember I pm'd you about the Lakeland hemisphere cake tins a few weeks ago? The results are in my post of 16.37 on Sunday (above). They were a great success!

nannycook · 18/03/2014 22:43

Whoknows, I bought those tins too, all of the sizes, its how I made my bird cage.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/03/2014 22:49

I wouldn't want to use them too often, they were quite fiddly (I've made notes for next time) and took ages. But a very good effect. I only really do fancy cakes for the DCs birthdays, so it's likely they won't get used again for a year now.

stealthsquiggle · 18/03/2014 22:51

I have the large hemispheres and this full of chocolate cake cooling in the kitchen now and two very indignant cats shut out in the utility room for the night - cakes hopefully to be transformed into a cricket ball and a grassy base tomorrow night.
