THANKS A LOT.

I've eaten half a car in 2 days!!! I keep going at it with a damn spoon. It is seriously the most delicious thing I think I have ever tasted.

DD ate most of a jar in a couple of days - it's all the rage at lycée. I don't really like it, as, apart from being too sweet, it seems to be a bit floury.

bobthebuddha · 27/03/2014 11:46

stainesmassif - I care! The spread is addictive stuff, but palm oil's a deal breaker. Just checked the jar (DH bought one for me due to my Belgium-acquired love of Speculoos spread) and yes, it contains palm oil. Evil, evil stuff. It's bunged in everything these days.

stainesmassif · 27/03/2014 19:14

SmileHmm Bob. I'm amazed that Palm oil isn't more on our radars. What a pathetic legacy we are leaving our kids. 'Sorry there's no rainforest. Or orangutans. But there was this really nice biscuit spread that seemed more important at the time'

nut3lla · 27/03/2014 19:43

As a definite chocolate in a jar lover, decided I must try this! Mmmm absolutely delicious! But...after eating quite a bit checked the calories - 2457 in quarter of a jar! Wish I'd never tasted it now, as will seriously hamper my efforts to fit into my normal (non- maternity or fat) clothes anytime soon.

PufferFish · 27/03/2014 21:10

I stir a heaped teaspoon through my morning porridge instead of adding sugar! You.have.to.try.it.

bobthebuddha · 27/03/2014 21:27

Anyone addicted to the stuff (and any other palm oil-containing things, which is just about everything these days) might want to consider foregoing the odd jar and helping out the creatures that suffer from our love of it by donating to this
The orangutans (and me and possibly stainesmassive) will thank you for it!

MeAndMySpoon · 27/03/2014 22:09

Is MN being paid to promote this, admittedly delicious, stuff? Because I think I've had no less than 3 emails from MN (talk roundup??, Swears By, Parenting News) and at least one post on Facebook from MN that feature it heavily. Hmm MNHQ, are you all currently reclining in a vat of the stuff, hazily licking it off your fingers and toes? How much did they send you? Grin

CorusKate · 27/03/2014 22:19

It's foul. I bought a jar thinking DP and I would love it, but WhoKnows is absolutely right - one spoonful each and straight into the bin never to be bought again.

It tastes exactly how you'd imagine it would taste if someone ground up biscuits and stirred in a load of oil and extra sugar. Who in hell wants to spread baked goods on baked goods?

In fact, has anyone ever seen a chimp chew up food, extrude it back through their lips onto their hand for inspection, and, when satisfied with the texture, put it back in their mouth again?

This tastes like that.

stainesmassif · 28/03/2014 03:35

I love you, bob :-)

bobthebuddha · 28/03/2014 09:06

Ahhh, shucks stainesmassif Grin

I discovered this in the Netherlands a few years ago and used to get friends to send it over to me. They spread it on dutch toast and sprinkle with little bits of chocolate and it is divine!!!
I nearly cried with excitement when I saw it in Sainsburys. No more using it sparingly until the next parcel arrives!!!

happybubblebrain · 28/03/2014 19:52

I bought some today and I spread it on Lotus biscuits.

Lotus biscuits are the best biscuits in the world. The spread tastes identical to the biscuits - amazing.

Ohbyethen · 29/03/2014 03:58

Nut3lla - 2457 KJ / 100g so 590 Kcal / 100g I don't know if you're in SA but it reads like there's over 2000 Kcal in a quarter of a jar! I was amazed for a second & wondered how long I'd last using it for my total intake - hungry but happy!

I was given a jar and only now looked at ingredients, no more for us due to Palm oil. Should have known by the texture, denial probably! It's a shame but not surprising either. I go as far as buying Palm oil free peanut butter but just avoid everything else, I'm sure you can probably get chocolate spreads without it but the peanut butter is expensive and I can't justify it for a nutella equivalent.

I have unfortunately recent experience of lovingly pre chewed biscuit and the spread is definitely nicer than that. Or at least more thoroughly squished.

squoosh · 29/03/2014 04:40

It is SO foul. Dry, claggy muck.

squoosh · 29/03/2014 04:42

Plus down, down, down with palm oil products! Orangutans beat Lotus spread and Nutella every day of the week.

stainesmassif · 29/03/2014 04:48

Grin Squoosh. Down with palm oil, down with palm oil!

LoveMyBoots · 29/03/2014 09:07

I know palm oil isn't a good thing, and I'm making more of an effort to cut down on it. But why is it in so many things? What does it do? Can't find anything on the internet about it.

coldwater1 · 29/03/2014 10:11

I have added it to my basket, how i have never heard of it is beyond me considering my diet consists of mostly chocolate!

Weliveinabeautifulworld · 29/03/2014 16:32

Just been eating it... by itself... with a teaspoon Blush

stainesmassif · 29/03/2014 23:06

It's a cheap replacement for trans fats now that manufacturers are required to label ingredients more comprehensively. Ie it's easier and cheaper for your tasty snack to be processed.

LoveMyBoots · 30/03/2014 08:21

Thanks staines. Just looked at what trans fats are for - basically, prolonging the shelf life of processed foods. Is that what palm oil does?

stainesmassif · 30/03/2014 08:36

Yes. Yummy. Smile

DakotaFanny · 30/03/2014 08:42

Teaspoon?? Sod that! Tablespoons for me!!! and I'm on a diet!!!

5feralloinfruits · 30/03/2014 13:48
