THANKS A LOT.

I've eaten half a car in 2 days!!! I keep going at it with a damn spoon. It is seriously the most delicious thing I think I have ever tasted.

It is lush in a sandwich with bananas!

trufflehunterthebadger · 27/02/2014 21:27

I bloody luff it. Bought a whole vat in belgium :)

trufflehunterthebadger · 27/02/2014 21:32

Apparently it was a belgian housewife that invented it, according to the lady that ran the b&b we stayed at in bruges. Speculoos sandwiches are a popular post school snack and she spotted a market.

I love speculoos. Especially crushed and coating sweetbreads as is popular in brussels -drools freely--

BitOutOfPractice · 27/02/2014 21:35

The Dutch call it speculaas and I wouldn't be surpried if they claim they invented it too Grin

gastrognome · 27/02/2014 21:38

You can get Lotus ice cream here in Belgium too. Sort of a mix of vanilla, speculoos spread and caramel. With crunchy bits.

juststartingtotry · 27/02/2014 21:40

Whereabouts do they stock it in the supermarkets? With the chocolate spread and peanut butter etc.? Or with the biscuits? Will go on a scouting mission ASAP!
Thanks

Laymizzrarb · 27/02/2014 21:42

In Sainsbuey it is next to the Nutella, chocolate spreads etc

juststartingtotry · 27/02/2014 21:45

Thanks Laymizzrarb.

trixymalixy · 27/02/2014 21:46

I bought it once, demolised the whole jar in a couple of days and decided it was far too bad for my waistline to ever buy again. Well maybe at Xmas for a treat!

AFingerofFudge · 27/02/2014 21:46

For anyone with a Home Bargains near them, they currently have the Lotus speculoos biscuits (individually wrapped 2 to a pack) 59p for a large pack. Me and the DC's are addicted to them- will be hunting down the spread tomorrow!

HarrietVaneAgain · 27/02/2014 21:59

I used to import this by the box load from Brussels. We used to go over once a year and it never lasted more than a couple of months. Then I noticed it in Waitrose....

Laymizzrarb · 27/02/2014 22:12

It reminds me of the long biscuity strip that used to be in the Viennetta flavour that came in a blue box (nut flavour?)

Weliveinabeautifulworld · 01/03/2014 11:21

Just bought it... our entire house love it! Grin

HyvaPaiva · 02/03/2014 18:09

YES! I just bought the last jar in Waitrose. Yet another thing to thank MN for! Thanks

I bought decoy bread for 'Speculoos on toast'. Spoon in jar before the night is out, clearly.

Grin
KatoPotato · 02/03/2014 18:14

Spread it on custard creams... Oooohhh

zombiesheep · 02/03/2014 18:18

Is it nut free?

poppyknot · 02/03/2014 18:26

I just finished my jar, hidden in plain sight in the kitchen cupboard. No one else knows about it so wouldn't notice. This does not work for nutella :-)

MrsMeow · 02/03/2014 18:28

I bought some of the crunchy one in Sains this morning for £1.25. I felt a bit sick after trying it though :(

Can't scroll back to see who said about the popping candy choc spread, but they have that at the minute for £1.02 or something daft! It's a firm favourite of my DS!

MrsDeanAmbrose · 02/03/2014 19:16

oh god my nutella habit was bad enough for my waistline, this thread will be the death of me!

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 02/03/2014 19:23

Oh no, saw that and resisted because I didn't think id like it. Now I'm going to have to buy some. it's the law
Dd adores that popping candy crack. Her favourite use is in a toasty with Fluff spread.

Laymizzrarb · 02/03/2014 20:29

It is nut free and dairy free!it is now my evening snack of choice. A largest spoon I can find teaspoon, pile it on like a lollipop, and sit in front of the TV munching it!

DangerousDorothy · 02/03/2014 20:32

Oooh this sounds worth taking a trip to the supermarket for tomorrow, but it is as nice as the chocolate spread from Ikea with the little bits of dime bar in it?
I luffs that.

GingerMaman · 02/03/2014 21:37

Dairy free too! Gosh, defo going to get one tomorrow.
