Yay!! We've got a quiche!! (goes off to start thinking of tips, something quiche related potentially :))

Jins · 15/03/2012 14:27

Well I've just made the dough for seeded bread and am pondering doing the pastry for Paul Hollywood's cornish pasties in it because to be honest it was hard work by hand.

Pardon me for jumping in, but I must ask a question of you all (I thought you might all move over here from Chat, I just missed it!)

I would love love love to have a KitchenAid. I am getting married in 3 months and want to put one on the wedding list. DP says no, it's too expensive and we shouldn't put one on there as it looks really grabby. MIL says put it on. I've not bothered asking my mother as then she'll just try to control the list like everything else. And this isn't about the rights and wrongs of having a wedding list Grin

Should I just go for it? if I said to him calmly and rationally that MN I thought it was a good idea then I could force him to agree gently persuade him I'm sure.

ariadneoliver · 15/03/2012 14:32

Does anyone have the ice cream maker attachment?.

The reviews are mixed on it.

Jins · 15/03/2012 14:34

I'd go for it. You can always set it up so people can contribute towards it.

I was thinking about getting the ice cream maker but it relies on a frozen bowl. I had one of those before and it was rubbish.

I'm after a grinder next

Can I join even though I've not got one yet?! It might give me even more persuasive arguments for getting one. Have ordered the John Lewis one in anticipation of my partner agreeing to buy me it for Mothers Day Grin although as my youngest son pointed out - 'he's not my mother'. Put him straight on that one though pointing back out that I am the mother of his children therefore deserve a present from him. Roll on Sunday.

Nospringflower · 15/03/2012 14:40

Meant to say I would add it to present list - lots of people have dear things on their list and if it was set up so that people could contribute towards it even better.

BaronessOrczy · 15/03/2012 14:47

Off to log on to John Lewis... that's a great idea about contributing! thanks

BiltongandBoerewors · 15/03/2012 14:56

I have an icecream maker for mine. We love it, yes it is bulky and needs freezer space but I just sit may bag of frozen peas in in mine! and it is only in the freezer in the summer really. I use both real recipes and made up ones - occasionally for the girls I just wizz up a smoothie and throw it in the machine or if we are feeling really naughty a bottle of thick chocolate milkshake with crumbled up oreo in it. It takes about 20mins to make soft ice cream which you can eat instantly.

BiltongandBoerewors · 15/03/2012 14:59

Forgot to say I have a CandyApple Red one and it is my third child! I bake a lot and it is the best thing ever bought for my business!

Jins · 15/03/2012 15:01

I discovered mashed potatoes in mine the other day. I've hurt my arm and thought I'd be lazy. Well it was a revelation

PrancingBuffalo · 15/03/2012 15:03

Can I join in? I am currently working my way through Dan Lepard's Short and Sweet with mine.

Jins · 15/03/2012 15:04

All are welcome.

I got rather excited when I saw one on Masterchef. We've got tv product placement covered I think

Likeaheadlesschicken · 15/03/2012 15:38

I also get very excited when I see them on tv, I often pause the programme so I can call DH in to share my delight..... I was quite distressed when I thought Great British Bake Off (the Sport Relief one) had ditched them in favour of the KMix but they did make an appearance!

Mashed potatoes....I'll definitely give that a go Jins

Baroness I would put it on your gift list but say you would love contributions to it, don't know how you could do that but it is worth it because wouldn't you rather have a fabulous shiny kitchenaid rather than lots of assorted small bits?

TreacleSoda · 15/03/2012 15:40

Can I join? I declared my ownership on the other thread, I was the fool who went for matt surface and can't keep the sodding thing clean. Also have matching blender (get me!) but they have discontinued the matt granite now so I can't get a matching food processor. Probably for the best Grin or my kitchen could start looking like a Kitchenaid advert.

I too class it as the best thing I have ever bought. I'd sell the furniture and we'd sit on the floor before I'd part with my Kitchenaid. It is an item of great beauty ^and& practicality!

PrancingBuffalo I'm working my way through that book too, I love it, the recipes are really different. Have you tried the lemon and poppy seed cake? Its really good. I'm planning on making the weetabix muffins later...

TreacleSoda · 15/03/2012 15:40

italics fail ^

Likeaheadlesschicken · 15/03/2012 15:42

Also I'm currently lusting after a kitchenaid blender, has anyone got one? If so would you recommend it?

stealthsquiggle · 15/03/2012 15:45

Ooh, am I allowed to join this and the cake quiche?

Does anyone have the KA pasta making attachment?

Likeaheadlesschicken · 15/03/2012 15:46

Ooh Prancing and Buffalo I am going to have to make a quick trip to amazon, you have talked me into getting that book! Weetabix muffins....

(2nd cookbook purchase of the week, also hoping for one for Mother's Day, I am addicted, can I smell a spin off quiche do you think????)

Jins · 15/03/2012 15:46

Baroness I'm sure I've bought from a gift list recently that allowed to either pay in full or contribute towards an item but I can't remember where it was held now

I suppose there's the voucher option on most lists. You can say you'd like vouchers towards a kitchenaid

OP posts:
TreacleSoda · 15/03/2012 15:47

the blender is good, its got a very strong motor so it can crush ice and all sorts of crazy stuff like that. But if I'm honest, I rarely use it, it just gathers dust. Also you have to really take it apart to clean it, and I find it quite difficult to do. Its also tricky blending just the right amount of stuff in it - too much and it flies out all over the place, too little and it doesn't blend properly.

I think with hindsight I haven't got my moneys worth out of the blender the way I have with the mixer. It looks fab though!

PrancingBuffalo · 15/03/2012 15:50

Treaclesoda, I haven't made either of those yet. The lemon butter cake is fab, and the everyday scones are the best I've ever made (but I didn't use the KA for those).

Likeaheadlesschicken · 15/03/2012 15:52

Thing is I don't really need a blender....I only really use our current one for mixing Nigella's baileys cheesecake mix, which could probably be done in my food processor, or mixer, but I just want to to complete the set......oh god, I am addicted!

In the states they do lots of kitchenaid branded things, I think if I lived there I would be upto my eyeballs in kitchenaid related debt, but my what a pretty kitchen I would have!

shelley72 · 15/03/2012 15:55

please may i join? i promised DH that if he bought me one, i would bake him cakes every week (have failed). so far have only made basic cakes, meringue and pizza dough in mine - would love to get into it a bit more now that i have the time, but my cakes nearly always fail - despite my beautiful mixer - i must be doing something wrong.

so i was thinking of getting the ice cream attachment, how much room does the bowl take up biltong - we just have average fridge/freezer. would it fit in a drawer? i was thinking that i could do sorbets in the summer for DD, as she is getting to the age where she is starting to feel left out when big brother has ice cream. worth the money do you think, or will it just encourage me to eat lots of ice cream?!

ariadneoliver · 15/03/2012 16:02

Biltong and Jins those seem to be the two reactions the ice cream attachment provokes. I have a separate ice cream make which I have to freeze the bowl for, so really it would have to be a great space saver and much better to be worth replacing that. Perhaps I'll hold on, maybe there will be something in the next lot of sales!
