This thread has made me break out in hives at the site of foodstuffs of christmas past that have traumatised me. I hate Marzipan with a passion (anyone remember marzipan mice? Boak) and christmas cake and liquorice.

Am with Aitch in corner scoffing findus cheesy crispy pancakes, french bread pizzas, mccains oven chips, strawberry laces, mini chicken kievs and those strawberry mousses in tubs you used to get straight from the freezer...

Just back from Aldi. Shelves groaning with marzipan laden goodies.

Taffeta now laden with marzipan filled goodies. I blame this thread.

AitchTwoOh · 25/11/2010 14:33

hahahhahaah at teh strawberry mousses. my mum also used to buy frozen cream sponges and then forget to defrost them in time for dinner.

We weren't allowed Findus Crispy pancakes, but we did have Arctic Roll ( ewwww ), tinned ravioli ( vom )and that pre grated parmesan sawdust that smells of catsick.

Happy Days. Hmm

Slubberdegullion · 25/11/2010 14:52

oooh

uncanny thread timing as I've just finished icing one of the cakes and have a big ball of the stuff (marzipan) to give to dd1 when she gets in.

dd2 last year was a hater, she also loathes marmite and is left handed

On the topic of licorice, it's now on the camping check list for prevention of in-tent constipation.

My mum was a fairly rubbish cook so all that stuff is just what food was.

SUmmer hols were great times of experimentation. Toast toppers were v popular one year and also cremola foam eaten with a wet finger straight from the tin.

AitchTwoOh · 25/11/2010 15:22

oh yes, i remember the saturday we got toast toppers. blergh.

and we begged my mum for campbell's tinned meatballs... not good.

LOVED shippam's chicken paste, though. why was it so gritty?

I only liked salmon paste. We never ventured further into the world of salmon though, oddly enough.

I loved tinned ravioloi. Meatballs and macaroni not good.

dinkystinky · 25/11/2010 15:36

My mum's indian so we used to have rice and curries most dinner times - once a week she'd introduce us to english food via the freezer cabinet at Tescos Grin Never ventured into the wonderful world of canned goods though - baked beans and heinz tomato soup were about as much as we could cope with...
