just wait til you see this ridiculous kids party they are doing on telly...

anyway, would your children thank you for a marzipan penguin?

I was surprised, that's all.
If I go any further I'll sound like I'm criticising and I'm not, so I'll shush up.

Would you like a Warbutons seedy bread pom bear sarnie, with a pickled onion on the side?

BigChiefOrganiser · 23/11/2010 00:00

Yes, my 3yo LOVES it. He always has a little marzipan animal when I go to the bakery. He also loves anchovies (paste and whole), go figure

ClaireDeLoon · 23/11/2010 00:02

Oh I'd MUCH rather eat an anchovy than a lump of marzipan.

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2010 00:04

oh yes please, mugggle. with wotsits if you please. (their father loves marzipan a la clairedeloon btw, so they have tasted the stuff and been suitably repulsed come Christmastime.)

anchovy paste is a doozy. they are such little weirdos, aren't they?

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2010 00:04

moi aussi, claire. LOVE anchovies.

He left the supermarket one day with a tube of the paste clutched in his wee hand and a face like this Grin. The checkout guy was all Hmm

ClaireDeLoon · 23/11/2010 00:09

To be fair to marzipan though, although I can never support a barely edible cake covering being used to make sweets, turkish delight is worse.

Honeydragon · 23/11/2010 00:10

Ds loves the stuff. I hate it. Ds and I sometimes get factory second chocolates from my work - as they are all seconds the marzipan ones are not identifiable so he is my chief taster. However sometimes the little arse will LIE handing it back as safe to eat - and run away cackling as I scour my mouth out to rid it of that almond foulness bluuurgh.

muggglewump · 23/11/2010 00:12

I don't have any wotsits, I do have a jar of anchovies and and a tube of anchovy paste.
I have never squirted that into my mouth.
Never.
Because that would be gross.

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2010 00:15

and yet i am sure that if kirstie allsopp made you some, you would.

i just cannot imagine needing it in any way. but then i do not like christmas cake either. dh has to go elsewhere for that. i am strictly a pound cake gal.

and i like pistachio turkish delight very much. not any other kind, though. but i know that''s all to do with edmund and the white witch, tbh.

Anchovy paste is lovely squeezed on cheese and onion crisps

I can also highly recommend pom bears and gherkin relish. Mmmn

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2010 00:18

i have never knowingly consumed a pom bear. are they like wotsits?

OP posts:
muggglewump · 23/11/2010 00:20

And I am not gross.
Sorry, I got sidetracked, Commando is on TV.
I shall busily make you a sarnie with Warburtons seedy, anchovy paste pom bears and a pickled onion.. Well, no pickled onion because I ate them all, perhaps a cornichon or a mushroom?. red cabbage? Beetroot? Hmm, I like pickles.
Anyway, moving on, I'm all out of Wotsits bit I may have a Froob left?
I don't think that will go with the sandwich but it's all yours.

Honeydragon · 23/11/2010 00:30
AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2010 00:32

now I've stopped snorting at Tiff's Iphone typo Grin

I love Marzipan, always have done. DS1 and 2 definitely like it - DS3 hasn't tried any yet.......but given his eclectic taste buds I'm sure he will

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2010 00:50

weirdly i was awitch for hallowe'en and no one knew who i was...

MmeBucket · 23/11/2010 00:51

I'm not sure what they'd think of a marzipan penguin, but they definitely love marzipan.

PrettyCandles · 23/11/2010 00:52

We all like marzipan. Never mind icing, I decorate the dcs' birthday cakes just with marzipan!

I knew I was pg, once, when I found myself eating a marmite and marzipan sandwich.

We all love marmite, too - except for dh, poor thing.

taffetacat · 23/11/2010 14:45

ohohohoh

or should I say hohohoho

We all adore marzipan here. Big, big almond fans. DS (7) especially mad for it, always has been.

Marzipan penguins sound divine.

mwahahaha

I have a recipe for the most amazing mince pies this year. Last year I did frnagipane ones. This year I they have an almond pastry and chunks of marzipan in with the mincemeat. And my Christmas cake is soaked and fed with Amaretto.

Hulababy · 23/11/2010 17:23

I love marzipan, always have. 8y DD quite likes a bit too, not loads in one go, but will happily eat it.

AitchTwoOh · 23/11/2010 20:10

blee at taffeta's almond overload. it is THE most over-rated nut imo. [brazil fan]

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 23/11/2010 22:15

The actual almond is a bit of a disappointment but the concentrated flavour in marzipan and almond flavoured things is divine.

MollieO · 23/11/2010 22:23

Ds loves marzipan, hates Turkish delight and absolutely detests all forms of anchovies.

I am delighted that at the age of 6 he has the discerning palate of his mother. Grin
