Ooooh! I used to put little dimples in the oranges too. [happy sigh]

Of course, you do have to like almonds to like marzipan.

AitchTwoOh · 22/11/2010 22:09

lol ilovetiff.

my kids will never know if they like it or not, it's not coming into this house.

the kirstie and phil thing feels rather wrong, actually, with the banks going down left right and centre etc.

I love k&P, it'll be on here. But marzipan is horrible, evil paste from Satan's squelchy bits. Don't go near it.

Ditto turkish delight . Looks so pretty, contains such menace.

Sugar mice, they hurt nobody. And you get free string Smile

OracleInaCoracle · 22/11/2010 22:16

I'd love to see Kirstie do a christmas in Telford, THAT'd be worth watching.

Linnet · 22/11/2010 22:19

I love marzipan. I have two dd's one likes it one doesn't.

AitchTwoOh · 22/11/2010 22:20

they seem to be in lapland for five minutes at the top and tail of the programme. i hope they got that free from the tourist board.

How could anyone not like marzipan?! One of our perennial Christmas treats is to buy a huge block of it from the 'home baking' section and then just carve it up and eat it as it is. Yum.

My friend's DS used to call Turkish Delight 'Turkey's Delight' when he was little - he genuinely thought it was called that because they only ever had it at Christmas :o

piscesmoon · 22/11/2010 22:22

I loved it as a DC and still do. I always give marzipan sweets to my mother as a special treat.

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 22/11/2010 22:24

I loved it as a child, as did my siblings, and so do the DCs.

SoupDragon · 22/11/2010 22:24

I often gift wrap a block of marzipan for my dad :)

CornishKK · 22/11/2010 22:28

I once used my pocket money to buy a block of marzipan, I was about nine. Allegedly I was going to make marzipan fruit but I just ate it.

whensitgunnahappen · 22/11/2010 22:33

When I was a kid we used to make marzipan animals with my mum. I remember it so vividly! I used to love biting the heads off?!? I still love marzipan and could happily eat the whole block in animal shapes or not! I do, however, know loads of people who hate marzipan! Think it's one of those marmite tastes x

AitchTwoOh · 22/11/2010 22:36

were you all too poor for real sweets? Wink

piscesmoon · 22/11/2010 22:39

Homemade is always better Aitch-however you get lovely manufactured marzipan sweets and I love Stollen.

piprabbit · 22/11/2010 22:39

My DD loves marzipan so much that I had to invent a special marzipan cake for her 6th birthday.

BonniePrinceBilly · 22/11/2010 22:52

I just ate a bar of chocolate covered rum and raisin marzipan from Aldi and it was divine! Whats not to love about marzipan?

How does one make stuff out of it though?

piprabbit · 22/11/2010 22:55

DDs cake was a pair of sponge cakes sandwiched together with a layer of raspberry jam and a circle of marzipan while they were still quite hot.

The marzipan kind of melted into the cake a little and made the middle all sweet and gooey. Was lush.

AitchTwoOh · 22/11/2010 22:55

warm hands, prince billy, warm hands... Wink

'Whats not to love about marzipan?'

The taste.

AitchTwoOh · 22/11/2010 23:11

and let us not forget the texture...

GypsyMoth · 22/11/2010 23:15

And the colour!!! And smell
Yuk! Can't believe so many like it!

muggglewump · 22/11/2010 23:17

DD doesn't like it, I love it.
I buy make Christmas cake and swap her the icing for marzipan.
I'm surprised at you Aitch, given you are the BLW guru.
I was shocked that you decided that X food meant kids wouldn't like it.

AitchTwoOh · 22/11/2010 23:20

lol, i'm not going to start giving my children something that makes me violently shudder just thinking about it. that's not blw. (otoh if they only ate foods i liked they'd eat a lot more wotsits than a dietitian might recommend. Wink)

anyway i would like to reiterate, you are all freaks. (with hon. exceptions)

OP posts:
ClaireDeLoon · 22/11/2010 23:24

Marzipan is only acceptable when disguised with a lovely rich Christmas cake and some royal icing.

AitchTwoOh · 22/11/2010 23:43

ever the diplomat, claire. Grin
