Dogs friendly film screenings

My local cinema had a dog friendly showing (I think of Barbie) today. I'd no idea this was a thing. Genuine question - do dogs enjoy being in the cinema with other dogs? Doesn't it just descend into chaos?

I'm not a dog owner as you can probably guess.

This is ridiculous. My Labrador would just drool watching me eat popcorn. And try and say hello to all the other dogs. Dogs should be able to stay home for 2 hours when you watch a film

LaughOutInTheGrass · 30/07/2023 21:34

Hope the dogs get some pawpcorn.

🤣

Just seen a cinema not too far from us does dog friendly screenings so we’re going to take our dogs.

Tell me you don’t know anything about separation anxiety without actually telling me…

My Deerhound had severe separation anxiety when we got her. She'd been returned four times to the shelter because of it. It was awful. I know plenty about it. I also know a lot about the enormous amount of work that goes into teaching a dog out of severe separation anxiety, which after three years of effort we have achieved.

But you go ahead with your patronising bullshit 2020 Twitter "tell me without telling me" comments if it helps makes you feel superior.

Wtf have I just read???

I choose not to eat in dog friendly restaurants or cafes and I really wouldn't go to a screening that's dog friendly even though I have very placid and well behaved dogs.

Why can't people leave their dogs at home for a couple of hours??

If you can't leave a dog at home for a couple of hours without it howling the place down or trashing it then they aren't being trained well enough and yes I also look after rescue animals before anyone says I have no idea what I'm talking about

I try to avoid places which allow dogs. Not because I dislike dogs and to be fair most are well behaved but occasionally one sits near you or tries to approach you and I don’t like that.

I almost got my hand bitten off waiting at a busy crossing as a chihuahua I think it was suddenly popped its head out of a bag and snapped at me (a few years ago). I had no idea it was in the bag and it was at a crowded crossing. Another friend of mine doesn’t see another close friend who got a rescue dog but wants the dog to come everywhere with her, not the only reason why she doesn’t see her but this didn’t help.

A lot of shops and cafes etc slow dogs now as they know it makes good business sense. Thank god Sainsburys and other supermarkets I think only allow assistance dogs.

Do posters who don't like dogs in places where you eat for germ reasons ever wonder how dog owners survive after eating food in their own homes?

ginghamstarfish · 30/07/2023 22:56

FFS! Is there anywhere the fecking manky things AREN'T allowed these days? Let them stink, slobber and bark in your own home, don't inflict them on everyone else. Oh and note to pub/cafe/restaurant owners, wouldn't eat in any place that allows dogs. It's vile.

No. Because there is many things that, although don't harm you, you would not find palatable.
For example I could pee all over your dinner and it wouldn't do you any harm, but would you eat it?

Everyone has different standards of what they would and wouldn't eat regardless of genuine safety.

BunnyBettChettwynd · 30/07/2023 23:29

Please don't pee on my dinner @kitsuneghost
😀

Oh God another place full of dog hair, dog smell and entitlement. If this is the way they’re going, that’ll be the end of cinema-going for me.

Fleas!!!

Why do dogs have to go everywhere?

Dog owner houses smell and their dirty butt holes are everywhere..... gross

BunnyBettChettwynd · 30/07/2023 23:48

Crikey @temosmail you've given that some thought.

Ultraviolet85 · 30/07/2023 23:51

DarkForces · 30/07/2023 20:38

How exactly is it entitled to take a pet to a place they're not only allowed but actively encouraged? It'd be like saying it's entitled to take kids along to an adult focused area on toddler day. People aren't demanding their dogs are allowed in to general performances. These are special dog events

A special dog viewing of barbie? What exactly is the dog getting from this or is it more for the owners ego, please, enlighten me - because most sane people can see it’s nuts.

You said it was entitled to take a dog there. I asked you how it was entitled, not whether you agreed or not. How exactly is taking a dog where they are welcome entitled?

Yep. Once was a child and friends dog wiped their asshole on the carpet because it was itchy..... left a brown trail.

LaughOutInTheGrass · 31/07/2023 00:51

Sounds like your friends parents didn’t look after their dog too well. Worms? Skin condition caused itching? Not grooming their dog?Irresponsible humans at fault not caring correctly for their dog, what a surprise.

BunnyBettChettwynd · 31/07/2023 10:08

Given that people are so pleased about the dog friendly cinema they will be so pleased to hear that our local cathedral is dog friendly.

All creatures great and small.

lostinfusion · 31/07/2023 10:16

this sounds awful, I know they said it is turned down but surely it's still very loud for a dogs very sensitive ears?

rwalker · 31/07/2023 10:22

I was in dunhelm mill yesterday there was a boxer slavering and drooling all over the pre packed curtains it’s just fucking grim

I don’t won’t to sit in a fabric chair that a dog has had it bare arse on

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 31/07/2023 11:11

Isn't it strange that people who don't own dogs manage to convince themselves that dog owners houses are gross, purely because a dog lives there?
I've only known the opposite - the people I know that own dogs are a lot hotter on cleaning their homes than those without - probably because it's less noticeable if they don't.

Maybe because we've been to your house and notice the dog dirt?

Maybe we think it's gross to keep animals inside that don't clean their piss or poo, that don't wear clothes and are very hairy,

Animals smell and so do their houses.

Cruel to keep a dog in a cinema for 2 hours or to allow its shitty bottom on a chair. Has to sit still as well, can't interact with other dogs. Weird.

Doesn't matter. They are animals. They poo. They don't shower.

Good portion of humans out there that shit and don’t wash properly either.

temosmail · 31/07/2023 12:21

@Tapasgoofy they aren't sitting on their sofas naked though

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 31/07/2023 12:30

@temosmail I mean, you wouldn't have been to my house and noticed dog dirt. My dog doesn't shed. He's properly toilet trained, so there no mess of that kind either. His feet are wiped when he comes back in to the house.

He's groomed, including baths, regularly.

I've been in the homes of people who don't own dogs and noticed a smell.

What makes you so sure that your own home isn't a bit pongy?
