Dogs friendly film screenings

My local cinema had a dog friendly showing (I think of Barbie) today. I'd no idea this was a thing. Genuine question - do dogs enjoy being in the cinema with other dogs? Doesn't it just descend into chaos?

I'm not a dog owner as you can probably guess.

I'm pretty dog nuts, but I would be extremely reluctant to take Ddog. She wouldn't settle if there's lots of dogs. I can imagine a woofing session between dogs, I'd rather a Netflix or, if I'm on holiday, a DVD in our caravan. She would watch a little bit before settling to snooze.
Ddog does lots of activities and goes everywhere with us, but even I would draw the line there.

I think this is how I feel about it. I love taking my dog places and she’s v well behaved but this seems like it has more potential pitfalls than benefits.

Boomboom22 · 30/07/2023 20:33

That's awful, so so bad. They don't clean properly anyway, what chain so I can avoid them?

SoMuchToBits · 30/07/2023 20:34

Barking mad! <see what I did there?> Wink

LoonyLois · 30/07/2023 20:36

I go to the cinema so I don’t have to share my popcorn with my dogs like I do at home!

Oh God another place full of dog hair, dog smell and entitlement. If this is the way they’re going, that’ll be the end of cinema-going for me.

Yes it's gross. They are noisy and dark places that I would think they would be bored at. Ffs. And the dogs would be sniffing each other's asses.

MidnightInAustin · 30/07/2023 20:37

Hope the dogs get some pawpcorn. 🤣

Boomboom22 · 30/07/2023 20:38

I really would like to be able to stay safe
How is that possible with entitled owners and businesses so now not only the beach, woods and anywhere nice outside but the cinema, pubs and cafes soon
For animals thar seem to kill about weekly, and that's just the human children never mind the animals.

Honestly dog people are becoming crazier and more entitled by the day! Your dog will survive being at home for the entirety of the barbie movie. Get over yourselves!

How exactly is it entitled to take a pet to a place they're not only allowed but actively encouraged? It'd be like saying it's entitled to take kids along to an adult focused area on toddler day. People aren't demanding their dogs are allowed in to general performances. These are special dog events

Boomboom22 · 30/07/2023 20:40

I wouldn't want to use the room they'd been in after ever so really would avoid the chain entirely from now on. Dog spit and hair does not come out without extreme chemicals so it'll be contaminated forever now.

MumUndone · 30/07/2023 20:40

No different to taking a baby. It's for the enjoyment of the owner/parent, not the dog/baby. I wouldn't take my dog as he's too big, and neither would I go to a dog-friendly showing, but I also avoid the baby-friendly showings.

MissingMoominMamma · 30/07/2023 20:40

I have three friends who are severely allergic to dogs. They wouldn’t be able to sit in the cinema after dogs had been in because it would cause asthma attacks.

I’m a dog owner (3) and I don’t agree with this. I have taken mine to drive in films though.

Yes except people are not allergic to babies and babies don't literally kill people by biting and attacking!!

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 30/07/2023 20:51

I don't see the issue here.

Not something I could do with my dog, because being passive in public is something we have yet to master, and he'd find all the other dogs incredibly exciting.

If I could though, I quite like the idea of taking a stroll in to town, catching a matinee whilst he chilled out, and then walking back home.
I'm a big fan of killing two birds with one stone.

Also feeling very personally attacked - took the dog and the kids to the park the other day and thought I'd treat him to a tub of dog ice cream mentioned upthread 🤣

VeridicalVagabond · 30/07/2023 19:19

Because they're fucking dogs.

😂😂

MidnightInAustin · 30/07/2023 20:57

Because they're fucking dogs

No, the cinema wouldn’t allow that, they allow a brief smell of bums, maybe licking each other, but definitely no fucking.

ohtowinthelottery · 30/07/2023 20:58

Just when I thought I'd heard it all ......... totally ridiculous. Time to stop humanising dogs.
It won't affect me though as I haven't been to the cinema for years. Stopped going as I no longer wanted to pay for the privilege of having a film spoilt by people chomping on mountains of popcorn, slurping from buckets of coke, being distracted by the light up screens on people's mobile phones (the ones that are supposed to be turned off), being kicked in the back of the seat, catching flashes of light up trainers and having to get up to let people go to the toilet/replenish their drinks/food. Not sure how much worse adding dogs into the mix could make the overpriced experience tbh.

kitsuneghost · 30/07/2023 20:59

How does that work. Would it not end up covered in dog hairs and piss and end up smelling rank and unusable to the rest of the public.

Or is it 1 single screen they keep just for the doggy crew so they can just leave dogs and their owners to wallow in their own smell and mess?

Tetchypants · 30/07/2023 21:04

But how do they stop them pissing? And if they do a wee who has to clear that up?

I don’t understand how any cinema thinks this is necessary.

johnnydeppsslipper · 30/07/2023 21:04

Wtf have I just read???

I choose not to eat in dog friendly restaurants or cafes and I really wouldn't go to a screening that's dog friendly even though I have very placid and well behaved dogs.

Why can't people leave their dogs at home for a couple of hours??

If you can't leave a dog at home for a couple of hours without it howling the place down or trashing it then they aren't being trained well enough and yes I also look after rescue animals before anyone says I have no idea what I'm talking about

aperolspritzbasicbitch · 30/07/2023 21:06

I find it weird that people are so focused on the hygiene aspect of it - young kids are as likely to have an accident in the seat as dogs are to piss inside, and poster up thread mentioned them being given blankets to sit on which will help prevent hair.
People put their feet up on seats all the time - some little prick of a kid that was sat behind me the other week had his feet up so high on my seat that I could have worn his manky trainers as ear muffs.

By default, I don't think cinemas are the cleanest of places anyway.

VinEtFromage · 30/07/2023 21:18

I wonder if there are any rules about barking?

MerryMarigold · 30/07/2023 21:19

gogomoto · 30/07/2023 19:00

Never heard of this but my ddog does like some tv, but he prefers wildlife documentaries, his favourites are ones about lions or other big cats

Mine too. For her birthday treat last week she went on a walk in her favourite place. Then we watched Ant Man (at home not in the cinema but it was dark) and she watched the whole thing, particularly enjoying jumping up and trying to eat the oversized ants. She also loves popcorn so she had some as a birthday treat. I think it was her ideal day. She also loves watching football. Anything with movement.

HeBeaverandSheBeaver · 30/07/2023 21:20

I have a dog I'm also allergic to dogs myself but I'm ok with him as my body has built a tolerance to his allergens. However this is a bloody stupid idea. I'd definitely get an asthma attack in a enclosed room full of other unknown dogs.

My hairdressers dog licked my feet last week and I had to take antihistamines when I got home as my chest was wheezy.

EllaPaella · 30/07/2023 21:22

I wouldn't take my dog to the cinema- how ridiculous. She'd be bored having to sit still at my feet for two hours- just what's the point? And what if they need to do their business? Jesus wept. I mean I love my dog don't get me wrong but she's a dog.

CherryCokeFanatic · 30/07/2023 21:23

Ridiculous

If I went to a regular showing and noticed dog hair and smell I would be complaining
