Dogs friendly film screenings

My local cinema had a dog friendly showing (I think of Barbie) today. I'd no idea this was a thing. Genuine question - do dogs enjoy being in the cinema with other dogs? Doesn't it just descend into chaos?

I'm not a dog owner as you can probably guess.

Actually did anyone properly ask the dog whether they wanted to watch that particular screening? Perhaps they had other plans 😄

PinkIcedCream · 30/07/2023 19:35

WTF??

I have a dog but I don't want to take him out everywhere with me. He's a dog, not a child!

Why would you take an animal to the cinema? It's not like they're watching the film and getting anything out of it?

World gone mad.😳

rwalker · 30/07/2023 19:38

What an earth is a dog going to get out of going to see barbie
about time people remembered dogs are dogs not people
all u need is one yappy one and the whole experience is ruined for everyone

Someone does this to train a dog to passively rest....!? This has got me 😆

You clearly have very little experience with terriers. As independent working dogs it is actually very beneficial to teach them to be able to rest in public - without proper training mine would be constantly scanning for stuff to chase and kill which would be rather unfortunate, don't you think? 🧐

snygghygge · 30/07/2023 19:45

Seriously, a lot of you people need to lighten up - it's just a bit of harmless fun

You mean like let them do what comes natural to them as the animal that they actually are?! What a load of codswollop that you would give them a cinema experience as a lesson to teach them how to test in public. Next you'll be telling us that an operatic experience will teach dogs how to mark 😄

Bunsandtophats · 30/07/2023 19:57

Bark I mean !

Bunsandtophats · 30/07/2023 19:58

..meanwhile clearly I need lessons in how to spell lol!

Once more, you clearly have little to no experience with terriers. As independent working dogs you have to practice hard to locate their off button. It is neither useful nor healthy for them to be in constant hunting mode. I can't help wondering why using a harmless film screening as a training opportunity gets your knickers in such a twist! Would you rather I didn't train my dog?!?

Oh God another place full of dog hair, dog smell and entitlement. If this is the way they’re going, that’ll be the end of cinema-going for me.

Same for me too. I'm a cat person not a dog person, went into a cramped corner shop the other day and my way out was blocked by someone's dog sat right in the middle of the aisle. It stank and I was in my work clothes. I thought she'd realise it was in the way and reel it in. Nope I had to brush right past it, it tried to press up against me. Owner seemed surprised I didn't want to interact with it 🙄

No, that won't be necessary. You see, living in the city I've spent a lot of time teaching my bitch to refrain from barking in order to not disturb the neighbours

lavenderlou · 30/07/2023 20:04

Ah, so the dog-friendly cinemas are for training dogs. What a wonderful idea, nobody was ever able to train their dogs properly before they were allowed in cinemas.

That’s the worst thing! When dog owners in a space where dogs didn’t used to go have a dog sniffing or trying to eat your cake… and the owner says “oh sorry Rex doesn’t usually do that, he’s lovely etc”. I never know if they’ll bite or growl either. And I’ve had 2 dogs in my life.

I give up! This thread is like the annual congregation of the surly brigade

Tapasgoofy · 30/07/2023 20:13

Need to look this up!

do all the dogs have to stay on leads?

BunnyBettChettwynd · 30/07/2023 20:15

Our village church has cinema nights complete with popcorn and wine. Dogs are allowed and it's a lovely relaxed sociable evening. The dogs sprawl out on the floor and keep your feet warm. Nobody human or canine has ever disgraced themselves.

Surly.... Indeed I appear to have lost my sense of humour because I think this is a daft idea?

Can I bring my cat?! If not why not?! Joking by the way…

I'm not kidding you, there often is a cat. He lives near the churchyard and is one well hard b'stard who practically runs our village. Dogs give a wide berth.

Ultraviolet85 · 30/07/2023 20:21

Honestly dog people are becoming crazier and more entitled by the day! Your dog will survive being at home for the entirety of the barbie movie. Get over yourselves!

Flipflops123 · 30/07/2023 20:24

Assistance dogs?
It's the only thing I can think of!

YouAndMeAndThem · 30/07/2023 20:28

Absolutely batshit

MidnightInAustin · 30/07/2023 20:29

A cinema we used to live near sells dog pick n mix to go with the screenings and they put covers on the seats. They always had a good turnout.

I have three couch potato dogs who would probably love to go sit in a comfy chair in the dark for a few hours with me, but FFS they can do that at home. I can't think of a single reason I'd want to take my dogs to the cinema. They can watch Doggy TV at home while I go see Barbie. Why do dogs need to go everywhere???

If your dog can't be left home for a couple of hours while you to to the cinema you have failed to train your dog and shouldn't own one.

Tell me you don’t know anything about separation anxiety without actually telling me…

drinkuptheezider · 30/07/2023 20:31

I'm pretty dog nuts, but I would be extremely reluctant to take Ddog. She wouldn't settle if there's lots of dogs. I can imagine a woofing session between dogs, I'd rather a Netflix or, if I'm on holiday, a DVD in our caravan. She would watch a little bit before settling to snooze.
Ddog does lots of activities and goes everywhere with us, but even I would draw the line there.
