I am just watching Mary Poppins for the umpteenth time. Have always thought that Sister Suffragette is the cleverest and funniest and most brilliant song ever.
What are your favourites?

Mulan... when will my reflection show who I am inside... the words make me teary eyed every time

Unicorn2022 · 26/12/2022 15:54

This is me from Greatest Showman

Parmavi0lets · 26/12/2022 15:54

Too hard to choose...everything everyone else has mentioned above!

But also...The Worst thing I could do from Grease. Or whatever it's called...sung by Rizzo when she thinks she's pregnant.

Yes I love this.

Much prefer the film version to the Christina version.

Helpless or Satisfied from Hamilton.

I would looove to see Hamilton - it's on my to do list for 2023.

KatKoot · 26/12/2022 16:03

‘Diamond’s are a girls best friend’ from Gentlemen prefer blondes’
’Hopelessly devoted to you’ from Grease.
Great catchy sing-along numbers!

You can count Hamilton as a film, well I am anyway!

Shunkleisshiny · 26/12/2022 16:09

Shall we dance? King and I

BedTaker · 26/12/2022 16:10

Also, the film itself was pants but This Is Me and From Now On from The Greatest Showman are cracking songs.

KatKoot · 26/12/2022 16:10

Thought of another two; ‘Who will buy” from Oliver & ‘The hills are alive with the Sound of music’ I sang this loudly from a mountain top in Switzerland around 30 years ago & still feel good when I think about it.
I have a terrible singing voice but it was so liberating!

Proudofitbabe · 26/12/2022 16:12

Gosh. Hard one!

Never Enough from the Greatest Showman might be my fave. Makes me emotional.

Music of the Night from Phantom. As above.

America from West Side Story. Great build-up and the lyrics are so clever.

Master of the House from Les Mis.

All of Calamity Jane

I'd also say the Beauty and the Beast and Little Mermaid soundtracks, and Colours of the Wind from Pocahontas. Not sure they count!

That’s good 😁as my favourites are

That would be enough- Hamilton
Who Lives, who does, who tells your story - Hamilton
and…
Helpless - Hamilton

😂😂😂

Quveas · 26/12/2022 16:13

Ol' Man River - Showboat, but it must be the 1936 version with the great Paul Robeson

HideousKinky · 26/12/2022 16:15

"On the street where you live" from My Fair Lady

Parmavi0lets · 26/12/2022 16:15

Love both of those. I'm having a hard time separating the song from the way it's filmed. I love Oliver! and The Sound of Music and could have picked any number from either, but that Who Will Buy? sequence is filmed so brilliantly that it has to be my favourite. The way the camera suddenly zooms in on Bill Sykes at the end! So menacing, and such a jolt after the pure undiluted joy of the singing and dancing. The beginning of The Sound of Music sets me off blubbing away and I carry on all the way to the end. Again, it's got a lot to do with the way it's filmed - the glorious panoramic shots of the mountains and then zooming in on Maria.

Also very fond of 'Oh what a beautiful morning' from Oklahoma, another one where it's hard to pick just one favourite.

Also agree with the Fred Astaire numbers mentioned upthread.

whirlyhead · 26/12/2022 16:18

I don’t care much from cabaret. Especially when Alan cumming sings it.

one night in Bangkok from chess.

heaven on their minds from Jesus Christ superstar

GlitchStitch · 26/12/2022 16:18

I'll Make A Man Out Of You- Mulan. Best Disney film song ever.
Most of West Side Story, especially America and Tonight.
There Are Worse Things I Could Do- Grease
Cool Rider- Grease 2😳

FreiasBathtub · 26/12/2022 16:20

Some solid suggestions here. Can I add:

Cell Block Tango from Chicago - in fact most of the numbers from that film are brilliant.
The Cover Is Not The Book from Mary Poppins Returns.
As Long As He Needs Me from Oliver 😭😭
Rhythm Of Life from Sweet Charity.

H1Drangea · 26/12/2022 16:20

America ..West Side Story
Tomorrow belongs to me .. Cabaret
Never , From now on … in fact most of the songs from The Greatest Showman

gogohmm · 26/12/2022 16:21

Wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome from cabaret

H1Drangea · 26/12/2022 16:21

Edit to above
Tomorrow belongs to me is absolutely chilling , not jolly and catchy
