Matilda the musical

Went to see it today.

It was very good, but they have cut out a few of the songs from the stage musical and it's just a musical version of the 90s film.

It's also 2 hours long. Longer with all the trailers etc. it was good but it's coming to Netflix on Christmas Day so if there is no rush to see it in the cinema id save your money!

I love the stage show but can’t stand going to cinema glad you recommend Netflix!

TigerRag · 25/11/2022 17:53

I saw it and I wasn't too sure about it

Freshmind001 · 25/11/2022 17:54

I watched it a couple of months ago, and personally thought it was a waste of money and nothing like Matilda. 2/10

Hoolihan · 25/11/2022 17:55

Saw it today and LOVED it. Thought it was wonderful as did my 10yo.

Needmorelego · 25/11/2022 17:56

@Freshmind001 how did you see it a couple of months ago? It was only released today.

clockapp · 25/11/2022 18:15

I don't know why it surprised me that the main actress is 13 but it really did. It was a brilliant waste of 2 hours but I won't lie knowing it comes out on Netflix in less than a month was annoying.

I watched it in theatre. Is that not the same thing ?

BattenburgSlice · 25/11/2022 18:46

I’m going tomorrow with my dds and can’t wait!

APurpleSquirrel · 25/11/2022 18:48

It won't be on Netflix on Christmas Day - not in the Uk or Ireland unfortunately. Everywhere else in the world, yes - but not here. According to Netflix & Sony (the distributor) it won't be on UK Netflix till next summer - so if you or kids do want to see it, you will need to see it in the cinema unfortunately.

clockapp · 25/11/2022 18:54

@APurpleSquirrel oh my bad! Sorry I've just re read it! You are correct!

We're all desperate to see it but haven't got an evening when we're all free until next week so will be booking tickets at the weekend.

DS1 and my mum have seen the stage show, ds2 and I haven't but we know most of the songs

A film version of the musical has just come out.

No problem, it's really confusing & annoying. I'd seen the posters saying on Netflix on Christmas Day & assumed it meant everywhere too; but nope. Looks like Sony & Netflix have done some stupid exclusivity deal to have it in cinemas first & then not streaming until 6 months later! 🙄 But only in the UK & Ireland 🤦‍♀️

Dontjudgeme101 · 25/11/2022 18:58

I went to watch it this morning with my dd. We both really enjoyed it. It was long though.

clockapp · 25/11/2022 19:07

@Dontjudgeme101 it is so long

Comefromaway · 25/11/2022 19:09

Is the acrobat and escapologist story still in it?

TigerRag · 25/11/2022 19:09

Yes it is

clockapp · 25/11/2022 19:10

@Comefromaway yes it is

Notanotherone6 · 25/11/2022 19:21

Love Matilda but won't be watching this one. You can't change the entire premise of the story for the purpose of being pc.

Needmorelego · 25/11/2022 19:24

@Freshmind001 no this is a new film version that's based on the stage musical.
It's the same story, songs etc as the stage show but obviously filmed in 'real life' rather than being performed on a stage.

Needmorelego · 25/11/2022 19:25

@Freshmind001 so when you said "nothing like Matilda" did you mean the original Roald Dahl book or the Americanised film version from the 90s?

Oh ffs they've just ruined my Christmas day! I think a lot of people didn't know this. Including the children in my class. We were all so excited!

The American version that I know off. I personally didn't enjoy it at all
