Best based on real life films... like titanic, the impossible etc

Not sure what they are called but films that describe an actual historical event or person. Like the titanic, the impossible, flight 93, 127 hours.

Although they make me weep buckets I find them so interesting.

What are your best based-on-real-life films please??

Ohh have seen braveheart!! Actually really enjoyed that! I need a good storyline to keep me interested!

As for the others, would you mind adding a brief description about what's it's about?
Otherwise I'll spend my whole night googling them all. 😂😂

I'm getting my pen and paper ready to make a list! Haha.

@cricketmum84 have you seen flight93? I haven't seen united93 but I know they are about the same thing. I only just watched flight93 tonight!! 😭

No never seen flight 93. United 93 is filmed a bit like a documentary. The pressure builds and builds throughout the film. You are so so desperate for the passengers to be successful even though you know that everyone will die. And you see the realisation going through them that they will die, the phone calls to family and stuff. Utterly heartbreaking. But so well done.

Into The Wild.

Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch), son of wealthy parents (Marcia Gay Harden, William Hurt), graduates from Emory University as a top student and athlete. However, instead of embarking on a prestigious and profitable career, he chooses to give his savings to charity, rid himself of his possessions, and set out on a journey to the Alaskan wilderness.
I read the book then watched the film. Not my usual genre, but it made me cry and is one of those films that kind of stayed with me. Iykwim.

Pride. It's about lesbians and gays supporting the miners strike in the 80s. It's a really lovely film and had me sobbing at the end.

One I'd like to see again is 'Life Story' - not for emotional impact but just as a rare case of fairly accurate depiction of science and scientists.

The US title 'The Race for the Double Helix ' will probably serve as a plot summary.

I thought 'sully' was really good- about the pilot who landed the plane on the Hudson river. I think Tom Hanks is brilliant in any film but love this one!

As a boy, Louis "Louie" Zamperini is always in trouble, but with the help of his older brother, he turns his life around and channels his energy into running, later qualifying for the 1936 Olympics. When World War II breaks out, Louie enlists in the military. After his plane crashes in the Pacific, he survives an incredible 47 days adrift in a raft, until his capture by the Japanese navy. Sent to a POW camp, Louie becomes the favorite target of a particularly cruel prison commander.

Another vote for The Dish. It's fantastic and I love Sam Neill. Makes me quite emotional when I watch it. Same with Apollo 13 actually

Pride, mentioned above, about lesbian & gay group supporting the striking miners. V funny and v sad.

Invictus, about Nelson Mandela and the SA rugby team (remember when he came onto the field in the Springbok jersey?). With Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon.

Both take your breath away – in different ways.

Agree with a lot of these... but NOT recommending Imitation Game. Very far from the true characters or their stories.

The Kings Speech is a great flick although I don't know how true to life, I think it hit the spirit about right, though. Men of Honour is utterly fantastic. I also liked The Intouchables, Eddie the Eagle, Kajaki, Against the Sun & Megan Leavey. I'm very keen to see On the Basis of Sex.

Patton is a classic.. but he was nuts (!)
