When I first saw/ heard of this film I thought no way, mum and kids not my thing, worst fear having/ Not being able to protect my children so watching it would be horrendous. But lots of people saying it's really good.

Have you seen it?
Is it good?
Is it scary?

Watched this last night and I was certain she was going to name the girl ella or Cinderella so I was dissappinted that she didn't, it would've meant so much more if she had. Also I hated how she was going to make the girl look rather than her son! she brought them both up from birth so how could she think like that.
I did enjoy it though but there are a lot of holes in the plot.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 11:09

In the book there is no mention of Cinderella as a name. She also doesn't ask any of them to look as she looks herself (no rapids in the book). And one baby is hers and one is Olympia's. Olympia kills herself right after the birth as the curtains are pulled down and she sees something

jokesonme · 05/01/2019 11:48

I know only one is hers but she's brought them both up together since day one so how could she choose.
I haven't read the book but considering they've added the Disney names in the film then they should've carried that through or just not bothered adding it as it doesn't make much sense.

Solo · 05/01/2019 12:27

If someone (me) enjoyed the film, am I likely to enjoy the book, do you think? just throwing the question out there :)

AnyFucker · 05/01/2019 12:31

Sgb, one of the children is hers and the other she promised to look after if she died

There is a point where she is almost forced to make a decision to save only one of them but is unable to do so

AnyFucker · 05/01/2019 12:33

Solo...yes.The book expands on the story a lot more and has a more well developed sense of menace from the "creatures" (if you like that sort of thing)

AnyFucker · 05/01/2019 12:34

"She" was one of the women in the house who died

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 12:43

I enjoyed the book after watching the film

EmNetta · 05/01/2019 14:41

I read the first page of this thread then switched to Wikipedia notes of the film. Then decided I didn't want to see it myself as "not my thing", however well-done. Thanks to all the people who've made contributions here.

It is terribly violent movie and unsuitable for young children. I watched it with a filtering service, VidAngel, and was still disturbed. I filtered out 44 F-bombs, and some violence, but missed others. Many many people are shown killing themselves in horrible ways, for instance, in one scene, an elderly woman plunges scissors into her own neck. Others jump out of windows and in front of buses. This is the whole theme of the movie. With today’s shocking rise in youth suicide, my feeling is that Bird Box is the last movie with which parents should be entertaining their children.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 15:05

Who said they let young children watch it?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 05/01/2019 15:56

paradise in the book one of the people in the house has a dog. I think his (dog) name was Victor. After the babies are born and all the humans are gone, Mallory is left with the dog, who eventually tears himself apart after she brings him to a club/bar on a foraging quest, and he sees a creature.

They also collect up stray dogs in the book, which they use as guides when they go out scavenging round houses. I don’t think any of that was in the film, they just went to a supermarket. In the book they go off on expeditions, in pairs, which are a massive deal because the people in the house don’t know if they will make it back or not.

Solo · 05/01/2019 16:04

Thanks AF and dementedpixie I think I will give it a go :)

I don't think I would let my 12yo Dd watch it and she has been brought up on Supernatural.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 16:10

It's only 99p on kindle just now

Nothisispatrick · 05/01/2019 16:11

Raeraemcrae

It’s not a kids film... no one here has said they watched it with children.

Also I find it quite funny you watched a horror film with a filtering service on. Why didn’t you just not watch it?

NOTthepinkranger · 05/01/2019 16:12

It’s not a children’s film no one has said it is and I’m sorry but it’s very tedious to try and link it to the rise in suicide rates

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 16:18

Some people have been doing the bird box challenge which seems to involve doing challenges wearing a blindfold. Netflix have put a warning at the start of the film apparently

exWifebeginsat40 · 05/01/2019 16:23

Nothisispatrick

because Jesus said it’s ok to watch a horror movie - but he can’t be doing with all the f-bombs.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 16:25

Jesus?

ReanimatedSGB · 05/01/2019 16:43

Oh yeah, the 'birdbox challenge'. Another fine example of Darwinism in action...

Nothisispatrick · 05/01/2019 16:56

Jesus?? I didn’t realise he reviewed movies these days.

yeahbutnah · 05/01/2019 17:26

It was good but was expecting more at the end?

Rox1234 · 05/01/2019 17:46

Call me way over looking the film but I’m left wondering how Tom & I didn’t catch Sandra Bullocks acting name suppose to have sex without forming a pregnancy for 5yrs! They was obviously active as is was briefly shown in one of the scenes

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 17:52

They didn't survive together in the book so that probably wasn't even considered in the film

MamaMina · 05/01/2019 19:06

My hubby watched it last night and rated it though I'm avoiding dark depressing nightmare inducing stuff in this dark and dreary post Xmas month. However, I found myself gripped by the first 10 minutes and then it all got a bit too much for me and I opted for book and bed.
