I've just watched Before Sunrise & Before Sunset. Both highly rated and well regarded. I didn't enjoy either of them, especially Before Sunset. It was basically two quite uninteresting characters talking to each other for the duration of the film, and I didn't even like the characters either!

Tell me some of the highly rated / regarded films that you think are crap?

Not a film but I watched the first series of True Detective last year. I thought it was probably the biggest pile of horse shit I've ever seen yet many rave about it like it's the answer to something.

JapanNextYear · 11/01/2016 11:17

Birdman, pretentious and dull twaddle.

JapanNextYear · 11/01/2016 11:18

True Detective, spent most of that asleep.

expatinscotland · 11/01/2016 11:20

Gravity. I fell asleep. Les Miz. I went out to have a cigarette after a little while and never went back in because staring at the night was far better.

Syriana. Fucking awful and SO dull. Was dragged along to see it by an XP who always had to try and look more intellectual than anyone else.

The Babadook. The only film where I've actually wished for the child character to be killed off. Beautifully summed up by an Amazon reviewer: 'Shite'.

Alastrante · 11/01/2016 11:23

The one about Turing. I can't even be bothered to think of its name. Insulting shit.

ScrambledSmegs · 11/01/2016 11:23

The English Patient. Left me stone cold while all around me were sobbing Confused

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 11/01/2016 11:24

Shawshank Redemption.

It seems to be up there on many peoples top 3 film list. I thought it was shit and boring.

ChristmasCabbage · 11/01/2016 11:25

Beauty I watched that Babadook a couple of weeks ago. I thought the little boy was a brilliant actor and I really felt the mother's pain having that little twat in her ear all the time. Overall, though it was very formulaic and the fact that it was a massive metaphor was pretentious and tedious. Eurgh. Dh loved it. Idiot.

ScrambledSmegs · 11/01/2016 11:26

Oh Gravity. I can't even get past the first 20 minutes without falling asleep. DH thought it was exciting.

BlueSmarties76 · 11/01/2016 11:28

Bird an is on my watchlist. I will proceed with caution!

Oh yes, Mission Imposible was shite! I did enjoy Gravity though and I love Les Mis!

I agree on Syriana! I found it dull too.

Agree on Life of Pi being over rated.

Gravity - I wanted her to not make it as she was just so bloody irritating and the film was so crap! Also Tarantino films, just don't get the appeal.

Grin Cabbage

The Babadook itself looked like something out of the Mighty Boosh!

user7755 · 11/01/2016 11:31

Another for every Tarantino film ever made.

Not a film but I don't get Father Ted, Mrs Brown's boys, Walking Dead or Breaking Bad either

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 11/01/2016 11:34

• The Beach. The book was better, but not much - the film sucked massively (having Leo DiCaprio in it really didn't help!)
• Shawshank Redemption - I don't think it was exactly shit but, having watched it twice (I know!) I really don't get the hype about it - it's just not that good. I got bored both times and really couldn't tell you what exactly happened.
• Good Morning Vietnam - fell asleep halfway through that one because I was bored. And I love Robin Williams, normally!

expatinscotland · 11/01/2016 11:35

YY to all Tarantino films. That man is fucked up in the head.

steakpunararemediumwelldone · 11/01/2016 11:38

Birdman was self pretentious twaddle. Such a luvvie in.

LeaLeander · 11/01/2016 11:39

The Godfather.

ChristmasCabbage · 11/01/2016 11:41

user7755 I can't physically understand the appeal of Mrs Brown's Boys. It's like it's made for teenagers. An old lady swearing and being un-ladylike, is that really still hilarious in 2016?

Pompomparty · 11/01/2016 11:43

Omg op before I clicked on the thread I was going to say Before Sunset! So boring and self indulgent

user7755 · 11/01/2016 11:44

That's it! It's like a 6th form project done very badly. Reminds me of when I did A level drama (or some such title), we did a play at a Catholic school and someone realised that the kids all found it hilarious when someone swore so they just did it every second word.

wigglesrock · 11/01/2016 11:47

Oh God, yes to Birdman, it was so far up its own arse and I don't mind a bit pretentiousness Grin Bloody Chicago - shite on a stick. I also found 12 Years A Slave a bit dull, well made but I've seen better on tv, same with Bridge of Spies.

I gave Carol a watch a couple of night ago - snoresville.
