I've just watched Before Sunrise & Before Sunset. Both highly rated and well regarded. I didn't enjoy either of them, especially Before Sunset. It was basically two quite uninteresting characters talking to each other for the duration of the film, and I didn't even like the characters either!

Tell me some of the highly rated / regarded films that you think are crap?

Hahahahaha!!

I had the EXACT same feeling - where have I seen her before? Where? Where? Only for me it was Buttercup in the Princess Bride!! Shock

The amazing thing is that she looks even better now than she did then. In an attic somewhere, there is a portrait of her that is ageing horribly...

Titanic. I thought that fucking boat was never going to sink - it went on for ever!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/01/2016 23:24

Mums

Oh how Titanic went on and on.. and all that water, ice cold water sloshing about...
I needed a pee half an hour into it but didn't dare to leave. Big mistake. By the time the film ended I was in agony, then I had to queue for an eternity....it was horrible.
Never mind Pavlov's dogs, say "Titanic" and I'll have to pee immediately! Grin

There were a lot of scenes I liked, but it was 1 hour too long.

Rumplebelle · 14/01/2016 23:56

Grease.

It's not even good in a so bad it's good way.
It's just rubbish!

ComposHatComesBack · 15/01/2016 00:25

Titanic - I was about to say I remembered it being popular but getting universally bad reviews.

Not so, I looked at the reviews and they are mostly very positive, with some being vociferous in their dislike for it.

It bored me to tears, the only highlight was a cameo by the actor who played 'Genial' Harry Grout in Porridge. My arse ached after three hours.

nataliefruit · 20/01/2016 21:36

Oh God Noah comes under this exact category - seemingly endless hours of shite accompanied by Russel Crowe moodily prancing around with that lame Jennifer Connelly - seriously how is she even an actress?!! I will NEVER get those hours of my life back!!

Also the revenant wasn't that great either and that's tipped for Oscar success! Do you recon they just pick the worst films for the Oscars just to make themselves look smug and ever so intellectual because they can actually stand to watch through the films?Smile

NickiFury · 20/01/2016 23:05

The Grand Budapest Hotel.

What a pile of crap.

StrugglingFool · 20/01/2016 23:20

Another vote for the revenant I'm afraid. Lots of nominations. Eayched the forst 20 mins...then a read some of book on my phone, had a nap, watched 4 more mins I hope... read a bit more... napped a bit more.
Dire.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 20/01/2016 23:23

Zero Dark Thirty. More boring than catching the most boring train to Boringsville.

NickiFury · 20/01/2016 23:27

I went to see The Revenant today and loved it Smile

Brokenbiscuit · 20/01/2016 23:34

I love Shawshank - one of my all time favourites! Also reallyenjoyed Lost In Translation.

I hated Pulp Fiction and the English Patient. Also don't get the hype about Star Wars or the Lord of the Rings stuff. And although it isn't film, I didn't get the hype about Breaking Bad either.

vladthedisorganised · 21/01/2016 15:20

Oh Lord, Lois, I'd forgotten about that one. I found myself cleaning the living room after 20 minutes in an attempt to enliven things.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 21/01/2016 15:49

found myself cleaning the living room

I bet you found Bin Laden down the back of the sofa before they found him in that bloody film.Grin

KERALA1 · 21/01/2016 18:53

I really enjoyed Zero Dark Thirty found it moving esp at the end when she was crying whether with relief or the fact she had nothing in her life now wasn't clear. And liked that it was the two women that found him.

Also thought The Revenant quite impressive. Made me never want to leave the city again.

Royal Tenanbaums though god that was the only film DH and I saw at the cinema that we both absolutely hated. Pretentious "kooky" pile of crap. At the end we both looked at each other and were so relieved the other thought it was crap too - one of our earlier dates and bonding experience! The critics raved about it.

BlueSmarties76 · 21/01/2016 22:20

Oh, Beetlejuice! What a dreadful film! Isn't it only popular with goths who like the aesthetic? Such pap.

Moulin rouge was also disappointing. I had high hopes, but really not very good.

This thread reminds me how many really mediocre films there are!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/01/2016 22:36

I loved Moulin Rouge. Especially as soon as I realised that Ewan McGregor himself was singing Come What May and all the other songs! Shock
I think Baz Luhrmann is brilliant. Strictly Ballroom and his Romeo and Juliet are two of my favourites.
In fact his R&J is the only remake of any films I love as much as the original - well, for me the original R&J is Zefirelli's. So so beautiful.

KERALA1 · 21/01/2016 22:43

No country for old men. Hated it. Man with bad hair walks around with fire extinguisher. Emperors new clothes like much of the corn brothers stuff. Annoyingly everyone I was with thought it was great.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/01/2016 22:51

Oh Kerala why did No country for old men did ever win any Oscars? It was shit!
Given Javier Bardem was good at being scary as hell, but I'm sorry to be rude, it is how he looks! Not that much acting was needed.
Could Hugh Grant or Natalie Portman ever look that menacing without series facial prosthetics and tons of make up? I doubt that.
And the story - just as you summarised it. Utter crap.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 21/01/2016 22:54

I didn't rate it either and I'm a Coen Bros fan.

80sMum · 21/01/2016 22:58

Titanic was a bloody awful film!
I didn't think much of these either:
Citizen Kane
Braveheart
Sky fall

BlueSmarties76 · 22/01/2016 22:31

Oh yes, Coen brothers! I'm pretty patient with films, but they are so fucking slow!

Also, Deer Hunter. I had to watch it in three parts. Wasted evening. Can anyone explain the appeal? Willing to accept its brilliant but just not to my taste if anyone can explain why!?

Love this thread!

The Tree of Life - gave it 20 minutes and that was 19 minutes more than it deserved. Utter gash.

Wholeheartedly agree re Woody Allen's films. Overrated, unfunny and frankly dull as shit.
