Scariest movie you've ever watched.

It would have to be the Conjuring for me, and I do not scare easily.
It doesn't help either that it's based on a true story.

Pet Semetary where the boy is under the bed. Years ago Poltergeist scared the crap out of me with the clown doll under the bed too.

I hate anything where there's something creepy hiding somewhere - I bought a solid divan bed after Poltergeist so there wasn't a gap under my bed Blush

Blair Witch.... gah....! still gives me the willies thinking about it!

BlackNoSugar · 08/03/2015 14:33

I saw a weird documentary-style thing about finding a backpack in the woods with a videotape in it, I missed the beginning and had no idea it was a long docu-trailer-type thing for Blair Witch. I thought it was a news story and went round asking anyone if they'd heard about the missing children Blush

namechangingtotest · 08/03/2015 14:41

The Conjuring made me jump quite a bit.

handfulofcottonbuds, yes to Wolf Creek. I don't think I'd ever watch it again. I've seen Saw a few times, but there is some sort of logic/reasoning to what's happening.

The War Game

Horror movies make me laugh. But that shit was for real. Gave me serious nightmares.

fabuleux · 08/03/2015 14:51

Insidious and insidious 2!

itsbetterthanabox · 08/03/2015 14:54

I love horror films and don't scare easy but I found the 2010 film 'Devil' truly terrifying.

namechangingtotest · 08/03/2015 14:56

itsbetterthanabox, is that the one in the lift?

dreamingofblueskies · 08/03/2015 15:01

Speaking of Silent Hill, has anyone played the playable demo for the new Silent Hills game? Now that is scary!

itsbetterthanabox · 08/03/2015 15:04

Namechanging yes it is. I don't know why it creeped me out so much! I couldn't sleep.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 08/03/2015 15:04

Any of the psych thriller ones like
Hand that Rocked the cradle
Sleeping with the enemy
Fatal Attraction
Dead Calm

Silence of the lambs for that matter.

Lilybensmum1 · 08/03/2015 15:08

When a stranger calls, it's quite an old film about a babysitter who gets calls asking her 'have you checked the children?' The police eventually trace the calls from inside the house!! The remake was no good.

I love a good horror but find most modern ones a bit rubbish, saw was good but not really scary. I like the psychological ones that you can believe.

I love a good horror, takeaway and a bottle if wine my perfect night in. Smile

thenightsky · 08/03/2015 15:09

conjuring for me too OP

CapnMurica · 08/03/2015 15:21

*HcachumBabow - I've got Alien Isolation!

You are right it is fucking terrifying. I have just got to where you meet the Alien for the first time - was killed three times in about ten minutes.

I'm having some time off from it lest I literally scare myself shitless! Grin

CapnMurica · 08/03/2015 15:22

*dreamingofblueskies - no I haven't, please tell me it's on Xbox not Playstation!

Piratejones · 08/03/2015 15:29
could be it.
skylerwhite1 · 08/03/2015 15:31

I am Legend. those zombies scared the crap outta me, it was the way they moved Shock and seeing NY city completely empty with grass growing in the middle of 5th ave. My stomach was in a knot the entire movie.

handfulofcottonbuds · 08/03/2015 15:32

Just thought of another, The Strangers - I thought because it had Liv Tyler in, how scary could it be??

The end scene in particular stayed with me for ages. The killers take of their masks and then you know that because they had revealed themselves, they were going to kill Liv and her husband. They slowly stab them - it was horrific!!

Cariad007 · 08/03/2015 15:34

Event Horizon - saw it at the cinema and watched it through my fingers
The Others - very creepy but an unbelievably sad ending
The Innocents - 1950s Deborah Kerr film based on Turn of the Screw and scary as fuck

I think the most frightening films are where you don't actually "see" anything, IYKWIM. I always find that once you see the monster or the ghost or whatever it is then the film ceases to be so scary.

handfulofcottonbuds · 08/03/2015 15:37

I'm sorry if I spoilt the ending for anyone who hasn't seen it Sad

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 08/03/2015 15:39

The Entity starring Barbara Hershey. It's based on a true story from the 70's. She is abused and raped by an unseen force. When she asks for help no one believes her until it starts attacking her and her kids in front of her family, friends and university scientists. It's extremely frightening to watch. Here's a little bit of info for anyone interested. barrytaff.net/2011/08/the-real-entity-case-2/

HeisenbergsBlueMeth · 08/03/2015 15:43

Paranormal activity 3

Don't know why, i watched the first 2 no problem but the third really affected me, i had to sleep with the light on for almost a week afterwards Blush i was genuinely terrified.

The counjoiring also really bothered me

dreamingofblueskies · 08/03/2015 15:46

Capn no, it's only on Ps4. Sad It's for this reason that I own an XBox One and PS4, sick of chasing scary games across consoles! Guillermo del Toro is behind it, so it should be good, not out til 2016 though.

Is Alien any good? I thought it looked scary but then it kind of sank without trace.

handfulofcottonbuds · 08/03/2015 15:46

Hostel - that's just horrible!

I really must stop watching horror films Hmm

ChristyMooreRocks · 08/03/2015 15:49

Jesus, yes to Event Horizon. You think it's going to be a fairly tame sci-fi.

Oh HELL no!
