Scariest movie you've ever watched.

It would have to be the Conjuring for me, and I do not scare easily.
It doesn't help either that it's based on a true story.

Nightmare on Elm Street 1. Scarred for life.

Anyone still afraid of particular film, I recommend you watch the Scary Movie films. The Ring is hilarious to me now Grin...oh and The Grudge...Grin...

TheSultanofPing · 08/03/2015 12:23

Just Googled images for Event Horizon. Think I'll be giving that one a miss Shock

ProfessorProfessorson · 08/03/2015 12:26

The Grudge...I think I must have blanked most of it out as I don't remember the parts people have mentioned here Shock just wish I could forget the NOISE that thing made Shock

Also the thing in the bag in Audition. When it moved.

Also The Descent...actually the early part, before they meet the monsters, when one of the women gets stuck in that narrow bit of rock, was the most horrifying bit for me. And they realise no-one actually knows where they are. I could never in a million zillion years go caving or whatever it was they were doing.

Gileswithachainsaw · 08/03/2015 12:31

I've seen loads of horrors. I love horrors. I have never found one particularly scary though.

I find the true story ones quite thought provoking not not scary.

I find that ones that have the potential to be scary (as they are real stories and could truly be fascinating) are always so badly made.

The only half decent possession movie is the exorcism of Emily rose.

shame because tales of possession and poltergeist activity could be really scary if made well

I hated The Mist. I burst into tears at the end Blush

Event Horizon - yes, scared the bejesus out of me. I too had no idea it was a horror.

Has anyone seen It Follows? I don't like horror but I'm intrigued.

AGirlCalledBoB · 08/03/2015 12:51

Not a big fan of horror films but I did enjoy the women in black. It really does make you jump.

I watched the stage show when I was 16 and that was scary. Brilliant play

IHaveBrilloHair · 08/03/2015 12:52

Blair Witch.

meandjulio · 08/03/2015 12:54

The Vanishing. Wish I'd never seen it, but at least I will never watch anything else labelled a horror film.

NotQuiteSoOnEdge · 08/03/2015 12:58

I'm another one who has never watched another horror film after watching the Ring at the cinema. I wanted to delete it from my mind somehow. It was so insidious the way the fear got at me!

Peaceloveandbiscuits · 08/03/2015 12:59

Ju-On. Had to watch cartoons afterwards Confused

ShumbTucker · 08/03/2015 12:59

Creep. Love horror movies but that film made me very uncomfortable.

ToastMakesMeHappy · 08/03/2015 13:12

Silent hill. Saw it at the cinema, never been so scared in my life. Watch it now and then on DVD and doesn't seem half as scary!

CapnMurica · 08/03/2015 13:16

I'm not the type to get scared by ghost stories or the like, but watching Paranormal Activity alone, on a laptop, with headphones was not y best experience! DH was out, I was alone with twin newborns (had a monitor for them). Shit myself up when DH came home.

Signs scared me shitless for some reason - the bit when the aliens were walking round the house. I was staying with a friend, was NOT drunk (or anything else) - still not sure why it freaked me out so much!

The thing I am most afraid of is home invasions, or waking up to find an unknown person in the house. Or a person LIVING in your house without you knowing.

Black Christmas (the original) is the scariest film for me, despite being lacking in gore (which doesn't scare me, just disgusts me!). I watched it on Christmas Eve a few years ago and had nightmares all night.

I did think the Babadook was scary, but in a 'this could happen to anyone' sort of thoughtful comment on mental illness way.

The Orphanage was just the saddest film ever Sad. I cried for about an hour after watching that. Very well made.

CapnMurica · 08/03/2015 13:19

Toast - if you think the film of Silent Hill was scary, don't ever play the games!

I had Silent Hill 2 for over a year before I managed to play it Blush. It genuinely is terrifying. Once I managed to start it, it was amazing. The ending is really sad Sad. I have re-bought it for my xbox - if you have one and like games I would recommend.

Moln · 08/03/2015 13:22

The Grudge (is that Japanese? I saw a Japanese film that scared me stupid)

I know Ring was remade I think I saw The Ring.

Either way I've seen a Japanese version of one of the above and an American version of the other. Both scared the life out of me.

InTheWhiteRoom · 08/03/2015 13:24

The Changeling

Not the angelina jolie one of recent years but one from the 70s

Absolute shit scary

handfulofcottonbuds · 08/03/2015 13:25

'Ju On' which is the original Japanese version of The Grudge, so fricking scary!!!

Also, and I almost can't bear to type the name.....Wolf Creek. Oh God, I find the scariest films are the ones where you can't reason with the killer, worse still when they keep you alive and there's nothing you can do about it (head on a stick). It still makes my skin crawl knowing it could have happened.

DowntownFunk · 08/03/2015 13:29

I watched The Conjuring last week and wasn't overly scared by it.

I loved What Lies Beneath when it came out and though it's not that scary it is creepy.

susiedaisy · 08/03/2015 13:33

28 weeks later. Not sure why because it's far from the scariest film about but it scared the shit out of me. The speed and relentlessness of the infected, the desperation of survivors trying to get away. It really frightened me. Blush

HcachumBabow · 08/03/2015 13:43

I love horror films and watch loads of them but the only film that has ever given me nightmares isn't even a horror, it's a crime drama.

10 Rillington Place with Richard Attenborough. I had nightmares for days after watching that.

For those who enjoyed playing Silent Hill, you should give Alien: Isolation a go. I'm playing it at the moment, it's terrifying and I've not even seen the alien yet. Brilliant game.

bloodyteenagers · 08/03/2015 14:01

I watched The Dolls years ago. Creepy as fuck.
What with that, nightmare on elm street 1, and the old original hammer horrors, nothing since as been able to shit me up. (Really lax adults who let me what and read whatever I wanted as a child)
I sit waiting for the scary bit and always disappointed. I often sit in the dark, alone watching scary films.

StrawberryAndScream · 08/03/2015 14:11

Agree with InTheWhiteRoom re the Changeling.
It starred terrific actor George C Scott and was first screened in 1980 I think. Right creepy.
Also love the Shining. Saw the Conjuring recently but it didn't do it for me.
Nor did the Ring and the Paranormal Activity saga - totally daft!
