It would have to be the Conjuring for me, and I do not scare easily.
It doesn't help either that it's based on a true story.

Unaligned was 'A tale of two sisters' good? I really want to see it!

iniquity · 08/03/2015 00:53

Paranormal activity 1

MyFeatheryHat · 08/03/2015 03:25

At about 9 I happened to stumble into the room while my (much older) cousins were watching Halloween.

It was the bit where the young Michael Myers was walking up the stairs with a knife, and you could see through the eyeholes in his mask as he walked up. To this day that section scares the living bejesus out of me

The grudge

I had to tell DP to turn it off. I normally love a good horror. Insidious, the ring, the woman in black, I love them, but the grudge? Nope.
That part where she just stares at the security guard or whatever he is through the security camera and all you could see were her eyes. Just staring.
Dd1 sometimes absent mindedly makes that noise when she's bored or something and it totally freaks me out, weird because I used to do exactly the same at her age.

I saw The Ring at the cinema with my sister and it's the first time I've ever wanted to walk out of a film, I was so scared I wanted to cry! And I have watched every horror film going. There was just something about the video that they watch that freaked me out. Afterwards my sister (who is hard as nails) said exactly the same thing.
When I got home I wouldn't go in the front room because I didn't want to go near the TV after Samara crawled out one at the end.
Also The Grudge is scary as hell, especially the boy.

CawCanny · 08/03/2015 07:54

Dixie I'm sure The Ring had subliminal messages in it. The images like the ladder and the horse etc were flashing up for a split second throughout the film when we saw it at the cinema. I'm convinced thats why people got so freaked out by it.
I jumped out my skin at the sight of random normal things for weeks after watching that and I'm not usually a scariest cat, I'll watch anything

ourglass · 08/03/2015 07:58

The Grudge and The Ring films are pretty grim

calypsoblue · 08/03/2015 07:59

JAWS!! Still worries me when I swim in the sea !

LordJabuJabu · 08/03/2015 08:01

The Mist.

Won't plot spoil but it's depressing & horrifying in a whole other way, all the way through.

AnnieMoor · 08/03/2015 08:10

Not an actual film but - I think I was about 13 when I watched Salems Lot.

Several scenes from it scared the bejesus out of me.

Misery. Absolutely loved it but that woman was terrifying.

EauRouge · 08/03/2015 08:21

Is The Conjuring the one where the kids play that hide and seek game where they clap? I shit myself at that. I get most horror films mixed up so I'm not sure I could pick a specific one. Event Horizon is pretty scary though.

The Woman in Black, the end of Carrie (graveyard bit!!!) and all three Exorcist films all scared me. The three Psycho films were quite bad too!

UnalignedAnt · 08/03/2015 11:29

It is, Puds - unnerving and eerie. Slow build but worth it!

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 08/03/2015 11:43

Ring. Not seen remake wouldn't dare

My hairy dd loves to flap her hair over her face and wander about. Still shit a brick 10+ years on

Oh and Blair Witch.

both of them stay with you

Ilovenannyplum · 08/03/2015 11:48

Yes to The Conjuring. Terrified me!!!

expatinscotland · 08/03/2015 11:50

Sinister was pretty horrible.

icelollycraving · 08/03/2015 11:57

Woman in black, original film that was on tv years ago.

ElspethTascioni · 08/03/2015 11:57

The Descent. It scared the crap out of me - I just felt so claustrophobic in the dark for weeks afterwards...

But I am a great big wuss who doesn't really like horror movies, and I was persuaded to watch this one on the basis it was "just a climbing movie gone a bit wrong..." Hmm That said, I've seen the Exorcist, all the Paranormal Activities, Poltergeist etc without really caring too much. Films are a funny thing, what scares you is quite personal I think

Dwerf · 08/03/2015 12:01

The Grudge. I swear I was looking out for that little boy in all the dark corners for days.

Nolim · 08/03/2015 12:03

The others

expatinscotland · 08/03/2015 12:15

Skeleton Key was fucking whacked, too.
