What is the most overrated film you've ever seen? Can I suggest Her?

WTF was that about? It's taken me weeks to watch it. It was up for Oscars as well.

The Green Mile

What utter tosh. Black prisoner being humble (never angry at he injustice) and the white guards are not really racist and they become friends yes of course this would have happened Hmm

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 06/01/2015 11:23

Anything nominated for an oscar. They are all so dull.

Blair Witch project. I liked the second one though.

Pirates of the Caribbean (all of them)

sourdrawers · 06/01/2015 11:55

Going back a bit, but Mc Cabe and Mrs Miller was pretty dire.

SymphonyofShadows · 06/01/2015 12:49

The Wonan in Black. Why didn't the villagers just move instead of waiting around for some terrible fate to befall their children when a visitor turns up?

SlinkyB · 06/01/2015 15:10

Seriously OP, you hadn't realised Her was set in future?! What I thought was scary was that we're not far away from all that tech. And that a lot of people spend more time interacting with or via technology than rl human beings now Sad

Grin Elephants. I have never seen the film version of Coriolanus but DH and I went to see it years ago at the theatre with Ralph Fiennes in the lead role. It went on and on and on and we were sitting on benches instead of chairs so couldn't fall asleep and every so often RF spat on us (accidentially I hope) because he was so worked up in the role.

It was the worst three weeks of my life and DH still brings it up as a comparison to anything anyone claims to be dull and long winded.

And I still have no idea what the play was about.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 06/01/2015 16:02

Oh, I see Ralph was in the film version too. Well, at least he couldn't spit at you in that.

ShatnersBassoon · 06/01/2015 16:05

I watched Her this afternoon. I enjoyed it Blush. I couldn't wait for the black screen sex scene to finish though - I felt embarrassed and I was on my own. The cat thing made me laugh Confused

Lost in Translation was the pits. I didn't know if I was too dim to get it at the time, but I'm yet to meet anyone who says they enjoyed it.

HawkeyeInChaos · 06/01/2015 16:30

Anything by Peter Greenaway (for example A Zed and Two Noughts, Drowning by Numbers). I once had a bf who liked his films so I got dragged to a few. Dreadful shite.

BestIsWest · 06/01/2015 17:09

Birdman. Critically acclaimed. Strong performances. Will win lots of Oscars. Lots of arty references to other films. Amazing filming techniques. But well weird.

EachandEveryone · 06/01/2015 17:12

What is worth seeing I was going to go next weej

NOT Into the Woods. Really awful.

Pinkwillow · 06/01/2015 17:44

Betty Blue

springalong · 06/01/2015 17:57

Fargo - dire

ShatnersBassoon · 06/01/2015 18:04

I love Fargo! I'm clearly not ideal for contributing to this thread Grin

southernsoftie · 06/01/2015 18:05

Agree with Battleship, the perils of having a teenage son who likes company when watching DVDs. At least it was on at home so could mn whilst "watching".

Worst thing seen in the cinema was 8 1/2, pretentious and very very long (or so it felt at the time).

KERALA1 · 06/01/2015 18:13

Tinker tailor - trapped in cinema almost cried with boredom lots of men in grey talking. Dh liked it so broke our 100% agreeing on films record.

Royal tenenbaums we both hated. Stupid pretentious drivel.

Enjoyed lost in translation but had been travelling with work alone in Asia so identified with the spaced out thing.

stitch10yearson · 06/01/2015 18:18

casablanca

Cocolepew · 06/01/2015 18:18

Bidesmsids, I was really looking forward to it. Everyone banging on how funny it was. It wasn't.
Lasted 10 minutes in Wedding Crashers as well.

Cocolepew · 06/01/2015 18:19

Bridesmaids obviously Blush

StarsOfTrackAndField · 06/01/2015 18:26

Match Point

Clunky plot, awful dialogue written by someone who doesn't understand the British English vernacular and two awful leads.

Jonathan Rhys Myers who couldn't act for toffee and Scarlet Johansen who like pauses. In all the wrong. Places and. Makes everything sound like a question?

It was hailed as Woody Allen's return to form too.

Also American Beauty and Donnie Darko, both of which I enjoyed when they came out haven't aged well at all.

FourEyesGood · 06/01/2015 18:27

I really loved 'Her', and 'The Royal Tenenbaums' is one of my all-time favourites. But I agree that 'Avatar' and 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' were totally overrated.

Inkanta · 06/01/2015 18:28

Frozen - definately!

punygod · 06/01/2015 18:39

Fucking Wall E.

What was that about?

MadeMan · 06/01/2015 18:40

Empire of the Sun.
