What is the most overrated film you've ever seen? Can I suggest Her?

WTF was that about? It's taken me weeks to watch it. It was up for Oscars as well.

Broke back mountain
Mama Mia
Taken 2
Solaris

susiedaisy · 05/01/2015 18:54

Oh and Warhorse, utter Disneyfied drivel

LividofLondon · 05/01/2015 19:01

Zero Dark Thirty...fascinating story but so meh
Hurt Locker...irritating main character and...meh
Blair Witch...what a complete waste of my time
Anything by Quentin Tarantino. Just can't see the appeal despite the popularity.

Mrsjayy · 05/01/2015 19:03

Warhorse is utter drive l I just didnt give a stuff about the bloody thing

expatinscotland · 05/01/2015 19:08

The English Patient. I fell asleep.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 05/01/2015 19:08

Has anyone mentioned Coriolanus? I absolutely love the popcorn cinema so have never dropped off during a film before or since. But that one? Fell fast asleep 20 minutes in and just couldn't pull myself out of slumber. Every time I opened my eyes the same kind of thing was happening. Same lighting, same angry looking blokes with macho internal struggle, same Redgrave boring on weirdly hoping her son will die in battle.

Friends tried to make me watch it on DVD and the same thing happened.

(Lost in Translation is the most overrated film I've ever actually WATCHED though, weird pervy dynamic and nothing happens except a spot of cheerful racism.)

expatinscotland · 05/01/2015 19:13

'Her' was utter shit. I tried to watch it. I REALLY did. It was tripe.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/01/2015 19:17

The scenery in Australia is gorgeous, but I couldn't tell you the plot now.

If you don't like Inception or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, never watch Vanilla Sky! I thought the reason I didn't like it was because I was watching the original Spanish version, so I watched it again in English just to check I wasn't missing important bits.

I wasn't.

LightastheBreeze · 05/01/2015 19:30

I'd never heard of 'Her' and I see its on Sky Select tonight at 8, so I will have a look in the absence of Eastenders. Well, the first hour until Broadchurch starts if I last that long.

SirChenjin · 05/01/2015 19:31

I watched Gravity the other night. Special effects were good, but overall it was nowhere near as good as Apollo 13 - and the ending left me thinking "what now". 1.5 hours I will never get back.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 05/01/2015 19:34

Lost In Translation
Archipelago ("subtle, mysterious" oh right you are then, I would describe it more as "A wait-in-vain-for-something-to-happen yawnfest").
Grand Hotel Budapest (Watched the latter in toe-curling dismay having posted a DVD of it to a good friend for her birthday the day before).

EachandEveryone · 05/01/2015 21:21

How did you get on with Her? I didn't realise it was in the future!

OP posts:
LightastheBreeze · 05/01/2015 21:34

Well I only lasted about 40 minutes with Her, it was when the screen went black it finished it off for me. DH came in and said, what the hell is this. It was all quite tedious so I will never know the end.

SlinkyB · 05/01/2015 21:50

Oh I quite liked Her. I thought about it afterwards, and thought it was interesting how they got the message across that you can still love someone even though you might not be able to see/touch/hold/kiss them etc. I'm thinking of loved ones who have passed away of course.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 05/01/2015 22:01

Hugo.....126 minutes I'll never see again.
Great cast but utter rubbish.
Beautiful scenery but they left huggggggeeee................gaps between sentences.
They could've cut an hour off and it would still be too long Hmm

The Automatronic was a little metal creature that drew, I thought he'd be like R2D2.

we took the DC on my DS 12th birthday. He's never forgiven us.....

flipchart · 05/01/2015 23:45

Jeez, I forgot about Archipelago! I had been so looking forward to seeing that and suffered it until the end!

emmelinelucas · 06/01/2015 01:57

ET. Meh.

adiposegirl · 06/01/2015 01:58

The English Patient

HoldenCaulfield80 · 06/01/2015 02:31

I second Avatar. Saw it when it came out and it was, as FIL would say, an insult to my arse that I sat and watched it!

sourdrawers · 06/01/2015 07:51

Anything by Tim Burton. Though theee most diabolical pile of shit I've ever had to sit through was 'Battleship'...

CalamitouslyWrong · 06/01/2015 08:15

The film I hate most in the world is watchmen. It's unbelievably shit and features the worst sex scene in the history of the universe (worse even than the black screen bit in her!). It's excruciatingly badly paced and too literal an adaptation (note: comic layouts do not make good film story boards) for about the first half, then it abandons the original plot entirely and goes a bit silly. Utterly awful.

Mrsjayy · 06/01/2015 08:21

Madagasger 2 the dds pleaded with us to leave the cinema

sourdrawers · 06/01/2015 10:42

God yes, all the Madagascar films are too painful for words. All that 'Hey man, we're from New York' .. Shit.

sourdrawers · 06/01/2015 10:44

I agree with adiposegirl. Englsih Patient = middle brow, pretentious, Mills and Boon bollocks.

Fullpleatherjacket · 06/01/2015 11:02

YY to The English Patient. Dull, dull, dull.
