WTF was that about? It's taken me weeks to watch it. It was up for Oscars as well.

Mamma Mia
Blair Witch
Open Water
The Beach

^^ YY definitely agree

I loathed The Brady Bunch (movie) and Mars Attacks. I'm sure that there are loads more!

MadeMan · 06/01/2015 18:46

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off. What a total and utter arrogant, self obsessed cock Ferris Bueller is. I just don't get the hype"

Totally agree with this; really, really annoying character.

StarsOfTrackAndField · 06/01/2015 18:47

Fargo - dire

Really? It would make my Top 5 films without a shadow of a doubt. It is certainly a film I can watch time after time without ever tiring of. Takes all sorts to make a world!

I think you can make a better case that The Big Lebowski' is over-rated - some hilarious scenes, endlessly quotable, but the plot is a bloody mess and not half as clever as it thinks it is.

Life of pi

santamarianovella · 06/01/2015 18:59

Cold Mountain, I turned it off when she was playing the piano on the back of the horse and cart Grin , my friend and i went to see it, we laughed a lot at that secene, we went out to calm ourselves,it took us about 5 minutes to stop laughing. Nichole Kidman's acting was so awkward at that movie.

I couldn't understand what mulholland drive was about.

SirVixofVixHall · 06/01/2015 19:04

Love Liza. A phillip Seymour Hoffman film but absolutely dire. I have blocked the plot from my brain but at one point PSH's character is addicted to sniffing petrol and is snouting around filling stations snuffling the nozzles, which was unintentionally hilarious.

SirVixofVixHall · 06/01/2015 19:06

santamarianovella- Nicole Kidmans acting is awkward in everything, I have never understood why she is so successful. She is a terrible actress/ Someone like Olivia Coleman has more skill in one tiny shot than Nicole in any given entire blockbuster.

Gawjushun · 06/01/2015 19:12

Forrest Gump. Cloying and patronising.

getthefeckouttahere · 06/01/2015 19:35

Twelve years a slave was pretty disappointing, when the title tells you everything you need to know its always a bad sign.

Not sure i can comment on this thread as lots of my fave movies have been named.

I was pretty appalled at mean girls with its faux moralistic story to justify girls calling each other bitches and sluts. Mean indeed.

But the Godfather trilogy is dreadful, despite a bravura performance from Pacino, Coppola handled lots of the scenes dreadfully, cliche ridden, (a band in virtually every scene that involved a group of people .... LOOK THEYRE HAVING A GOOD TIME!) The pastiche themed Italy and little Italy make me want to scream. Dreadful acting ... Sophia Coppola in particular was horrendous in the third one.

What is really annoying about it is its schizophrenic nature because the parts about the present day family matters were stupendously brilliant. I want to get hold of him and ask WTF were you doing????!!!!!

getthefeckouttahere · 06/01/2015 19:36

Oh Gaw i could kiss you. That sentimental pap stopped Pulp Fiction winning best film oscar. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Mumzy · 06/01/2015 19:38

Anything with Keira Knightly in - she is such a wooden actress its painful

Madaboutthrows · 06/01/2015 19:43

Love actually
Four weddings
Nottingham hill

QueenofallIsee · 06/01/2015 19:57

I am hiding under a cushion as I adored Lost in Translation. I thought that Life of Pi was an absolute waste of film, I just don't 'get' most Woody Allen films and also......I don't find Monty Python films funny. I just don't understand why they are so cult. I cannot admit this in real life as many of my family and friends worship at the alter of Python

nickstmoritz · 06/01/2015 19:59

Can I add Dances with Wolves - dear god that woman's hair! well all of the hair CRINGE!
I had to give up on Battleship the other night and I usually stick out most films to the bitter end. Really Really Crap.
Mamma Mia - shite.
Agree with many suggestions and thanks for the warning on others that I thought I might try.
The Madagascar films bored me to death.
Fell asleep to 12 years a slave but thought it was because I was a bit drunk however perhaps it was just boring!

Despite being a SATC fan the second film is a massive turkey. Awful.

I did like Out of Africa and Last of the Mohicans though - DDL is fit in that and I love him in Name of the Father.

sportinguista · 06/01/2015 20:14

I am so glad someone said Thin Red Line, over 2 hours of some guys running around a grassy hill shooting every so often. DH liked it though so there is no accounting for taste!

American Hustle too, I was watching the news as TV next to computer. Still not sure what really went on there.

Worst movie I ever saw was a real low budget movie called Aurora, sci if think filmed in a quarry and bin bag suits.

DH watched Zombeavers the other day and that was truly bad, off the scale bad...Grin

FoonaLagoonaBaboona · 06/01/2015 20:14

I am sure someone has mentioned it already but Taken with Liam Neeson.....everybody i know raved about it I thought it was cringe worthily
awful

FoonaLagoonaBaboona · 06/01/2015 20:16

Oh I agree queenofalltoseei don't find Monty Python remotely funny !
me and DP have very much the same sense of humour but definitely disagree on that!

Onykahonie · 06/01/2015 20:28

The Paper Boy with Zac Effron...terrible. Literally had to take dvd to the charity shop the next day!

meandjulio · 06/01/2015 20:31

Must be on the wrong thread - Goodfellas? Eternal Sunshine? Fargo?? Loved all these and lots more on this thread. Maybe a lot depends on the circumstances you see things in - I managed to enjoy Mamma Mia because i was with my niece who was having fun, despite it being intrinsically utter shit.

My nomination is Tokyo Story, a 'classic' Hmm It has one lovely moment when everyone is sightseeing on a bus, but apart from that I found myself massively identifying with the character who was clearly intended to be a cold bitch because she liked going out to work more than caring for her (perfectly able and healthy) FIL, whereas the perfect daughter in law stayed home and laughed girlishly at all his lengthy anecdotes. Pfui.

Wafflenose · 06/01/2015 20:42

Signs. Just dire. I gave it 1/10 for photography; DH gave it 0/10. A couple of our friends raved about it though, so maybe I am missing something...

Followed by Eyes Wide Shut. I was quite young (very early 20s) when I went to see it, and it wasn't what I was expecting at all. I thought it would be more of a thriller, but it turned out to be more of a perverted sex fantasy IIRC, and I was pretty shocked.

And The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, or whatever it was called.

myfallingstar · 06/01/2015 20:47

Teeth

Shaknado 1&2 it's just so rubbish

Wafflenose · 06/01/2015 21:44

I keep thinking of more.

Vanilla Sky

Shrek the 4th (or whatever it was called) - so weird it disappeared up its own bottom

Top Cat - took the DCs to see this. I appreciate that it is aimed at children, but it was complete shite. DH walked out, and went to the supermarket next door instead. I spent the next hour feeling very jealous of him.

EachandEveryone · 06/01/2015 21:45

I watched one the other night. It was so good I can't for the love of god remember the title. It was an Indie film about a fella addicted to porn with our favourite Scarlett Johansson in it again. It was shite appart from the glorious julienne Moore. How does Scarlett get do many parts ???

Avatar was appalling. Anything with what's his face from waterworld-Kevin Costner-appalling. Mr bean movie- appalling. There's other poopdeck out there but those are my lose the will to carry on ones.

daisychain01 · 06/01/2015 22:11

The Horse Whisperer which was directed by Robert Redford and starred yes.. You guessed it.. Robert Redford. What a load of utter tosh.

I cannot agree that The Theory of Everything was overhyped. The acting was impeccable and just to think what the whole family had to go through, how dignified they were and their awesome academic and personal achievements including raising three beautiful children, in spite of everything, it was a most beautiful human story, well told.
