What's the worst film you ever manage to live through?

PureBloodMuggle · 07/01/2011 18:57

Currently have Sweeney Todd on.

OK so i might not manage to actually live through it which makes me subject title a bit misleading but I've succeeded in keeping it on for over 19 mins purely because I've so far been shocked ridged that a film the cast it has can be so so very awful.

Not sure awful even does it justice

SPB I can heartily recommend Mark Kermode's podcast review of SATC2 both to explain why it's a mustn't watch and for comedy value. The bit where he starts to sing the Internationale is a particular highlight. Unfortunately can't do links but YouTube search for Mark Kermode Sex and the City 2 review will find it.

BelleDameSansMerci · 08/01/2011 15:07

Stealth - don't pay £8 for it!! OK, in summary, Samantha's character turns into an even greater parody than it already was (not least all the medication she's taking to keep the menopause at bay); Carrie is annoying and has a teenage reaction to something mundane (don't want to spoil it for you); Miranda is just annoying; Charlotte is obsessed with her attractive nanny. The clothes aren't as fab as usual (although some are great). If you have Sky Movies I'd wait until it's just on. I didn't mind the first film so I approached this one with some caution but thought I'd enjoy it. I'm struggling to find anything good to say about it. There is one exceptionally attractive man in it but otherwise not much to recommend.

2012 - awful

and Sex & the City - can't bring myself to watch the second one because the first was so bad, I am still mortified I made DH, and my friend and her DH sit through it.

although I'm sure I have sat through worse thanks to DH(vague memory of Kate Beckinsale in pvc catsuit possibly being a vampire?) but have possibly blocked them from my mind.

LoopyLoopsIsNoLongerFestive · 08/01/2011 15:13

The English Patient
Amistad
Transformers
Lost in Translation

StealthPolarStuckSpaceBar · 08/01/2011 15:14

okthanks:)

MrsFlittersnoop · 08/01/2011 15:27

Thomas and the Magic Railroad - DS saw it 11 years ago aged 3 and still hasn't recovered from his disappointment.

War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise. Mind-numbingly awful.

National Treasure 2.

thenightsky · 08/01/2011 16:19

Years ago when DC were small I fell asleep in the cinema to a film called, Space Jam. That still rates as the biggest pile of shite ever.

Mind you, last week I forked out £8 to see Tron Legacy in 3D and I was itching to walk out, but DS and DH appeared to be enjoying it when I peered at their faces in the dark.

LetThereBeRock · 08/01/2011 17:36

'LetThereBeRock - Fargo was brilliant! Really twisted'

I think that was partly my issue with it. I like dark films, but it just seemed such an unpleasant film,I didn't enjoy it at all.

I've never liked any of the Coen Brothers films that I've seen so far, though I keep meaning to give No Country For Old Men a try

CointreauVersial · 08/01/2011 17:46

I will agree, Fargo did leave me feeling slightly ill, but it was like nothing I had ever seen before and I was thoroughly entertained, so it counts as a good film for me.

But we all want differnt things from a film. DH, for example, always looks for "storyline", and if nothing much happens he considers it a bad film. Whereas, for me, atmosphere and characterisation are just as important.

So he snored through Lost in Translation (which also had a mention on this thread), where I thought it was brilliant.

And I'm bored rigid by Hollywood crap, usually involving a plot which is so obvious you could have written it yourself.

sux2bsanta · 08/01/2011 17:54

Alvin and chipmunks 2 ...DDs choice
Arizona Dream ...Johnny Depp was in it
Crocodile Dundee 3 ...we were in Oz at time
Heavy ...DHs choice
Inception ...Fell asleep..or did I?
Synecdoque ...Worst.Film.Ever.

Ishtar2410 · 08/01/2011 18:05

The second Da Vinci Code film with Tom Hanks in - was it Angels and Demons? Truly dire - we switched off after 20 minutes.

Transformers was another one that didn't last longer than half an hour.

The third Matrix film was a pile of crap too - we watched it to the bitter end and wished we'd switched it off sooner.

I slept through Crocodile Dundee II at the cinema.

CointreauVersial · 08/01/2011 18:10

I see a trend - anything with "2" or "3" in the title should be approached with great caution. Particularly if "1" teetered on the edge of being rubbish.

Lydwatt · 08/01/2011 18:16

The Royal Tenenbaums...awful!

LuckyLight · 08/01/2011 18:23

Practical Magic.
Was my 2nd date with DH. Thank god for the snogging on the back row (was 12 yrs ago Grin).

glastocat · 08/01/2011 18:28

Jurassic Park 2 was dire, first movie I walked out of the cinema on (mind you, it was nearing closing time). Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 was bad, but Space Chimps 2 was far worse. I think I see a theme here...Grin

Finbar · 08/01/2011 18:35

Agree with Maelstrom completely-

Breaking The Waves

still gives me nightmares - relentless bleakness and just when you think things can't get any bleaker....

GroovyGretel · 08/01/2011 18:46

Angels and Demons got turned off in our house - it had come as a free Blu ray when we bought our player...it has mouldered in the top of the cupboard ever since!

Also hated the Royal Tenenbaums and all time least favourite: Frankie and Johnny. WTF? Confused

sux2bsanta · 08/01/2011 18:49

@dilys Thank you so much for the Kermode you tube SATC2 review recommendation - 'i'm not going to rant'...10 minutes of ranting later'.
Absolute quality.

Have now read full thread.
Yep - most sequels/remakes shite.
Wes Anderson bit overrated, agreed.
Double nominations for...
Along came Polly (just not funny)
Couples Retreat (audience retreat)
Titanic (i'll never let you go...thunk)
Moulin Rouge (you don't 'get it' Sux. No i didn't. I walked out.)
Lake House (yes it was dull)
Legends of fall (aka Hopkins hams it up)
Sideways (overrated)
Wild at heart (likewise)
Breaking the waves (how much does LVT hate women?)

On the other hand I wouldn't have put the following up but different folks...

Closer (Clive Owen. say no more. Play was better though)
Kick Ass (kicked ass)
Eternal Sunshine (loved this movie)
Under Siege/Face off (so bad it's good)
Run Lola run (but i live in Germany. Trust me there's worse)

Think Jason Patric replaced Keanu precisely so noone would tell the difference.
The Kate Beckinsale movie was underworld.
(goss: Kate was starring with her then husband the delectable Michael Sheen but got off with the director instead with whom she is now married...)

I am avoiding my housework if you can't tell.

lalalonglegs · 08/01/2011 19:23

My friend recently strong-armed me into seeing "Cuckoo" (on the grounds that "Richard E Grant has never been in a bad film" Hmm) - that was truly appalling on so many levels.

Never really got "La Dolce Vita" and I once had to sit through another Italian film called "Barnaby of the Mountains" which was truly interminable.

notheroldie · 08/01/2011 21:11

Magnolia, tom cruise being a twat (as usual)

notheroldie · 08/01/2011 21:15

Bridges of Madison County..... Boooorrriiiing

twirlymum · 08/01/2011 21:15

Phenomenon with John Travolta. The only phenomenal thing about it was how anyone gave the green light for such shite to be made.

Lydwatt · 08/01/2011 21:23

barbie movies

SookyStackhouse · 08/01/2011 21:37

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Nine yet. Tried to stick it out but I couldn't last till the end. Soooooooo boring.

TooManyButtons · 08/01/2011 21:43

The English Patient. Hours of my life I will never ever see again.
