What's the worst film you ever manage to live through?

Currently have Sweeney Todd on.

OK so i might not manage to actually live through it which makes me subject title a bit misleading but I've succeeded in keeping it on for over 19 mins purely because I've so far been shocked ridged that a film the cast it has can be so so very awful.

Not sure awful even does it justice

Jurassic Park 2 - took DS 1 and 2 to see it at the cinema, so couldn't leave because they were thoroughly enjoying it. I, on the other hand, spent two hours wishing I could poke Spielberg in the eye.

BellaCullen · 08/01/2011 12:58

Couples retreat is so depressing and worst film ever, no idea why its called a comedy.DP kept asking why we had to keep watching till end but was hoping for it to get better.

ChickFlit · 08/01/2011 12:58

Dumb and Dumber - shite utter shite.
The Matrix - was supposed to go out for a meal afterwards with DH but instead had a massive argument about him making me sit through that shite.
Sex and the City - loved the series wanted to poke my eyes out watching that crap.
Titanic - I was another one thinking, just hurry up and sink.
Ocean's 12 - love George, love Matt, but they couldn't save that pile of crap.

Love Moulin Rouge though although thought the first 20 minutes was bizarre.

BelleDameSansMerci · 08/01/2011 13:05

Sex and the City 2 - why did I bother? It's embarassingly bad. Just cringe making.

Worst at the cinema has to be Ace Ventura although I agree that most of the films listed here are beyond awful (apart from Moulin Rouge and Casablanca which are two of my favourite films).

Oh, I also hated Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightly.

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2011 13:05

Deep Blue Sea - saw it at the cinema and people were throwing things at the screen. How we laughed at the dramatic bit where the guy got eaten :o

Saw on DVD "House on Haunted Hill" which had the least realistic "possessed cat attack" scene ever - literally, someone out of shot threw a toy cat into the scene.

And recently, Kick Ass. I loved the idea and in between the violence and gore it was good but I had to go to bed. And I haven't had a jacket potato since.

LetThereBeRock · 08/01/2011 13:05

Someone said Casablanca? What's wrong with Casablanca?Shock

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2011 13:06

"Sex and the City - loved the series wanted to poke my eyes out watching that crap."

Really ChickFlit?? That's strange because DH and I thought the film was just a longer version of an episode in the series, no better no worse.

Hassled · 08/01/2011 13:09

Sex and the City2 was possibly the worst film I've ever seen. How they could take a smart and witty TV show and turn it into something quite that shite is beyond me.

And never see Furry Vengeance. Even my then 7 year old thought it was poor and unfunny.

GwennieF · 08/01/2011 13:11

Along Came Polly - DH still brings up the fact that I chose it. He now considers all of my film choices to be of dubious merit, even though it's years since I chose a bad one!

HarlotOTara · 08/01/2011 13:13

Thomas and the Magic Railroad - youngest DD had a Thomas passion. If I had gone to see Pokemon the Movie I imagine that might have beaten Magic Railroad but luckily someone else got roped in to see that

LetThereBeRock · 08/01/2011 13:13

I'll second Along Came Polly, and throw in Something About Mary.

While not the worst film I've seen,I hated Fargo, and think it's overrated.

I don't get the hype about The Princess Bride either.

threetimesabridesmaid · 08/01/2011 14:07

I also turned Sweeney Todd off after about 20mins, OP. The only film I've walked out of at cinema is Click. Yawn.

Moulin Rouge is v.annoying for first 10mins but gets sooooo much better after that (and has the honour of being both the only film I've seen at cinema twice, and the only time I've gone alone!)

VivaLeBeaver · 08/01/2011 14:09

I never got past the first 20mins of Moulin Rouge, thought it was awful. Walked out of Bridges of Madison County at the cinema, dire.

threetimesabridesmaid · 08/01/2011 14:11

Oh, and treated myself to SATC2 off box office on NYE (was heavily pregnant when it was at cinema). Never have I been so disappointed with a film (unlike others, I like the first one).

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2011 14:13

so what'sso badabout the 2nd then? Not seen it

BelleDameSansMerci · 08/01/2011 14:40

Stealth - hard to encapsulate but it's dreadful. Let's say that putting the "girls" into the Middle East was somewhat misguided...

StealthPolarStuckSpaceBar · 08/01/2011 14:42

I wanna see - I can imagine it's entertaining at least?? Watchable? But wasdn'twilling to spend£10and lessso now!

StealthPolarStuckSpaceBar · 08/01/2011 14:43

OKit's£8 now, worth that?

wuggglemump · 08/01/2011 14:44

I hated SATC2. I downloaded it as soon as it came out as I loved the series and thought the first film was OK, and it was dire, just embarrassing.

wuggglemump · 08/01/2011 14:46

It is not worth any amount of money or your time Stealth, trust me.
One huge cringe fest.

StealthPolarStuckSpaceBar · 08/01/2011 14:47

butwhy?? examples please

CointreauVersial · 08/01/2011 14:47

LetThereBeRock - Fargo was brilliant! Really twisted!

I agree with you about There's Something About Mary, though. Dreadful.

Also, anything with Jim Carrey in it makes me want to throw things.

Beamur · 08/01/2011 14:49

The worst film I've ever seen was about the last days of Francois Mitterand. I was wishing him to die quicker by the end.
(Lots of films listed on here are ones I like though - there is no accounting for taste!)
I also thought 'Absolute Beginners' was dire.
DH also votes for the Pokemon film as being one of the worst kids films he has seen.

BigGitDad · 08/01/2011 14:50

SAme as Clayhead, Alvin and those f'ing Chipmunks 2. I genuinely tried to go to sleep in that movie but the seats were too uncomfortable.

Lucyintheskywithdiazepam · 08/01/2011 14:55

Until recently, Open water was by far the worst bilge that I had ever endured on screen. After 20 mins, I was rooting for the sharks.

However, I saw 2012 the other day and that gives Open Water a serious run for its money. I love John Cusack normally but I can't forgive him for being associated with that unadulterated load of arse.
